I'll begin with some background information on the event. Team Rocket held a Prismatic 2v2 player run event with the goal of trying get some more players into prismatic. We decided that hosting a Player Run Event (PRE) with absolutely insane payout would be a great way to get some people interested in a format they might not have thought of trying After a month of pooling and collecting prize money this is how the payout went
First: 100 tickets
Second:
, and
Third: 2 draft sets of med1/med2/med3 packs
The tourney ended up drawing a pretty wide array of decks. We had teams show up with everything from full blown tournament decks to casual room decks, with a bunch in between.
The event winners were Tommstock and endless_nameless
Here's the decks they brought:
Tommostock:
Tommstok's deck is quite creature light, and obviously aims to win by taking the control lead. Playing along side it, I found it never provided lethal damage. While it lacked the killing blow, it always had very time critical counters or removal which allowed my deck to swing in for lethal damage. Obviously a secondary win condition Tommstok has here is the grindstone/painter's servant combo for an instant mill.
Here's my deck list.
So those are the winning deck lists. I can't really speak for Tommstok's deck, or why he made the choices he did. I can certainly give you a run through of my deck and why I made some of the choices I did.
Lands:
Fetch is king in this format. My original decks played 80 dual lands, I found this to be suboptimal. I found the best combination to be playing at least one of each dual; that way no matter what fetch you crack you can get any colour of land that you might need. There are many down sides to a mana base like this though. First is cost, you have to be heavily invested to have the cards for this. Shock lands are a good alternative for the cost conscious. Second is hate cards. Blood moon, magus of the moon, back to basics, price of progress all lay down total doom on my mana base. I do run a single forest to pull out if I get hit with path to exile. Going forward, now that the cat's out of the bag, I think I would run a mana base with more basics to help hedge against the hate. Third, manlands rock the house. We both played a full playset of mutavault and mishra's factory, we also both played a few of the more modern dual coloured man lands. The ability to attack when your creatures have all been killed is great. The last thing I learned about the mana base is that exotic orchard is the single best land you can possibly play. It doesn't come into play tapped and gives you potential access to all 5 colours. I can't say enough about how much I loved the addition of this land to my deck.
Creatures:

I tried to play 3 types of creatures, those that provided multi functions, Mana acceleration/fixing and those that had to be answered immediately or force losing the game.
I think I'd probably lose the
werebear and put in a
fyndhorn elves in future versions of the deck. It would be pretty rare to see the threshold activate on the
werebear. Other than that, I'm happy with my mana producing creatures. My all star is
birds of paradise, it's ability to give you whatever you need colour wise provided to be peerless.
Creatures with multi functions seemed to see limited uses, but I think I would keep them all in. My all star in this category is
kira, great glass-spinner. Her ability to protect your creatures in a format where sticking a big creature often results in the win is huge.
My answer me now creatures might see slight changes. Perhaps remove
spellbreaker behemoth and replace him with a second
master of the wild hunt for his ability to do spot removal too. I think
terravore might also be great in this format with the amount of fetch in all the graveyards. The land destruction dwarves worked out well in a few of our games, totally hammering mana bases.
Spells:

I think all the spells in this deck are fairly straight forward. I tried to pick removal that could take out anything on the board. So with this in mind, my two all starts are
maelstrom Pulse and
vindicate. Their ability to remove anything are huge in a format where you need broad answers. What you lose in small casting cost and instant ability you gain in the ability to remove anything. It would suck to have your artifact removal to be 80 cards down in your pile when you needed it now.
Artifacts and enchantments:(thb=sensei's divining top)
Again, I think fairly straight forward here. I think I would removal the
seal of primordium and play another
luminarch ascension instead maybe. A
sword of light and shadow would also give you protection from pretty much all removal too, which might be the way to go. If i had to pick an all star I would say
sensei's divining top would have to be the best. If you combine top with all of your fetch activations you really end up with some great filtering.
Planeswalkers:
I can't say enough about these guys, I ran lots. I don't think I saw or heard of anyone else running as many as I did. Once you stick one, they're nearly impossible to get rid of directly in this format. It forces your opponent to either attack them giving you time to regroup, or use their direct damage spells sparing your creatures. My all all star would probably have to be elspeth, knight-errant. Her ability to chump blocker or pump your own guys is huge. Liliana Vess seems kind of janky, but she's really the only good tutor available in the whole format. So for the one casting cost beyond diabolic tutor, I think her re-usability is worth it.
The tournament going forward:
I think we learned a lot from our first tournament. First we need to promote it much more heavily. So many people said they wished they had known earlier. So I'm writing this article to help give people a heads up about the event, and what they can expect to find here. Second, We need to impose time limits on the games. We had a single game run nearly 3hrs in an absolute stalemate. Both teams seemed to always have the answer to their opponents moves. So I think we're going to limit the format to 30 minutes/player. It would still allow in theory for a 2hr game, but I think that would be very unlikely. Third, more organized tournament room. I found things got a big chaotic after the teams were announced. This was our first event, so bear with us. We are planning on making this a regular tournament, so start building your decks now!
Also I'd like to take this time to thank everyone that came out. In particular the guys from the international prismatic all stars clan. A team from their clan took second, with a cool deck. I'll see if I can get a decklist from them and provide an analysis sometime in the future.
I'd love some comments and feed back on my deck now that it's up here for everyone to see. What would you change? Do you agree with my choices? Does anyone have any feed back on our event, both positive and constructive is welcome!

I'm interested to know
Total of 8 teams and 16 players.
Not quite as much as I would have liked, but for our first PRE I think it wasn't too bad.
After the initial article/announcement I totally forgot about this. I am sure it was fun and grats to EN and co for winning it.
