Welcome back to a Caveman's look. Urza's Legacy has arrived and there are some exciting things that it will add. So today I am going to give you a refresher so to speak on the set. So lets start by giving you a primer of what was happening around this time in the world of magic. "Urza's Legacy continues Urza's quest to fight Phyrexia's godlike master, Yawgmoth, and his plans to conquer his home world, Dominaria. After an attempt to manipulate time goes catastrophically wrong, Urza searches for more allies as he builds a skyship to lead the war against Phyrexia. While he is away, the people of his Tolarian Academy have to battle a Phyrexian infestation on the island itself. The story of this set is recounted in the book Time Streams." -Wikipedia- You can also read the whole back here. So now with a little bit of a storyline lets look at some of the history that comes along with the set. Urza's Legacy was the first set to include foil cards! Could you imagine a day when opening a foil wasn't even an option? Me personally, I do not necessarily need to foil out my decks but some here and there does spice up the appearance of your collection. Urza's Legacy also continues using the flashback ability and also included more "Sleeping" Enchantments. Echo makes a reappearance but with a little more depth this time. This time they made cards that had an effect while coming into play that way your were not so obligated to pay the echo cost. In this set they also included 3 non-creature artifacts with echo.

So lets take a look at which cards out of the 143 card set is gonna make a impact.

(tmp=Cessation) I know for two mana you can just play pacifism, but for one more mana it will come back to your hand if it is destroyed.

Devout Harpist One mana for a 1/1 isn't great and the ability is kinda situational but when the situation arrives the harpist would be a nightmare for enchant creature type decks. I think in pauper if Armadillo Cloak  or Aura Gnarlid type decks become more popular the Harpist might have a shot at making some sideboards.

Karmic Guide This spirit could be a very fun card to play. I don't know or really think it will make a strong impact on the tournament scene but as far a s casual goes I think she will see some playing time. Maybe even in a tribal Spirit reanimator deck?

Mother of Runes Good ole mommy finally comes to mtgo. I can't wait to get my hands on a play set of Mother of Runes. She such a strong card in my opinion. I think she will see some play in tournaments and for sure in casual.

Planar Collapse Planar Collapse could be a decent card in tribal. It would let you build your board some while not letting your opponent overrun you.

Radiant, Archangel While I don't think Radiant, Archangel will make to much noise I thought she is worth mentioning since I see her every time I open mtgo.

Anthroplasm This could be a good addition for anyone who is building a shapeshifter deck.

Aura Flux This could be a good sideboard card for Legacy  for perhaps enchantress decks.

Bouncing Beebles Don't think this card will see an extraordinary amount of play but I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw it so I decided to share it with you.

Cloud of Faeries These faeries do have a real shot at making a MCu deck in pauper. Sure you only get a 1/1 flyer but it allows you to keep counter mana open and raises you faeries count for Spellstutter Sprite.

Frantic Search Here's a card I remember playing with back in the day and I think it will have affects in formats that it is legal in.

King Crab Another card for your tribal crab deck!

Tinker Here comes your chance to get your hands on the ultra powerhouse that his Tinker.

Walking Sponge How about a sponge deck?

Weatherseed Faeries Pauper sideboard card for faeries perhaps.

Engineered Plague The O.G. print is usually the coolest one and in this case it holds true.

Lurking Skirge Skittering Skirge in enchantment for.

No Mercy This card seems very strong to me but there isn't a deck I can think of that would use it.

Subversion Definently a fun multi player card.

Treacherous Link Finally we have all the pieces for the Treacherous Link + Pestilence + Pariah

Unearth Now this is a card that will see play in every format that it is legal in. Maybe making a black speed deck viable in pauper?

About Face About Face + Tireless Tribe + 5 cards = GG

Avalanche Riders Another copy of it might make the price come down a little on it.

Goblin Welder You probably want to get your hands on this one before the price goes up too much.

Crop Rotation Here is our first green card that I think will see play. Pauper, Legacy, tribal and what ever else you can play it in.

Defense of the Heart Defiantly a good choice for casual.

Deranged Hermit Lets beatdown our opponents with Squirrels!

Hidden Gibbons This could see play in Legacy. You gonna swords my tamo? Fine I get a 5/5 creature.

Multani's Acolyte This could possible see play in pauper.

Rancor Finally I will be able to get my hands on a playset for a decent price. Rancor is in my opinion one of the best auras printed.

Defense Grid This could help against those pesky counter decks.

Memory Jar Too bad its banned in Legacy but nevertheless will still see play where its allowed.

Quicksilver Amulet Can Eldrazi's get any easier to play?

Treetop Village This card sees play and is worth pointing out that you can get them again.

So those are the cards that I think will make an impact and also some that I am just happy to see come back. All in all Urza's Legacy is a strong set but I don't see a Oath of Druids value card in this set. I still think it is worth playing some of the release events and I can't wait for the last installment of the Urza's sets to come out. A Urza's block format is gonna be awesome. Now before I go I feel awkward not having at least one deck list so here is a Urza's Block legal deck for your pleasure:

Well Hermit is one of my two by Paul Leicht at Fri, 06/25/2010 - 09:14

Well Hermit is one of my two favorite cards in the set. I used to pilot a jank version of Mike Pustilnik's original Squirrel Prison back in the day. One version I had, I tossed in Tradewind Riders (I am sure this was not my innovation but I remember doing it and liking it.) I don't think I bothered with any counters in mine going for total board control and rush. I also didn't like Rofellos that much. This version looks like an early 2k version if I am not mistaken. Not quite playable online yet. (Missing destiny)

Ya I know I figured I would by RCueva at Sat, 06/26/2010 - 02:24

Ya I know I figured I would mention it for future reference when Uzra's Block Constructed becomes viable. Thanks for the comment

Maybe it's just a browser by Odindusk at Sat, 06/26/2010 - 11:55

Maybe it's just a browser issue I'm having, but the size of each card pic makes them completely unreadable. And the links don't work. I don't understand the point of an article like this unless the reader can clearly see/read the card to follow along with your analysis.

Not trying to be harsh, just calling it how I see it.

I don't think your being by RCueva at Mon, 06/28/2010 - 10:54

I don't think your being harsh at all. After reading your comment I do think that the pictures should be bigger. As far as the links go I guess they're not working due to the set being new I guess. Thanks for the comment and I will sure to keep it in mind for my next article.
