After getting thoroughly trounced every time I faced this deck, I decided it's time to take it for a spin to see what makes the UR Control deck tick. This deck is designed to abuse creature strategies, and in particular really hate the Delver deck. Almost the entire deck is composed to beat Delver and Affinity, which is a great idea when Delver and Affinity decks compose a large amount of the meta. A few regulars have been tearing up the meta by playing these UR Control decks. Here's the decklist:

And as always, I go into further detail here:

Since I think I understand the deck, time to take it for the ride.

First up, I encounter a deck that showed some promise after Fissure was banned. Finally, the format no longer needed to be able to kill on turn 4, so Slivers got a chance to show off its new shiny M14 toys.

Slivers and other smaller creature decks are what I really want to see on the other side of the table with this deck.

Next up I take on a rather impatient opponent playing Tron:

I don't find this a particularly favorable matchup and think my opponent conceded way early in both games.

Next up I take on another hasty concession with Familiars:

It can't be that bad of a matchup, can it? I think I'll try out Familiars next week to test it.

Reflection:

I think this deck just straight up replaces Mono U Control in the metagame - it has all the good matchups of MUC and has far better odds against some of the creature decks that try to go under Counterspells. If you love Control, this is clearly the deck for you.

Until next time, this is Chris. Enjoy Mulldrifting into Excludes!
