I was talking with my buddy Neo and I asked him about what he would like to see for a deck. He came up with a pretty specific list of restrictions:
1) Sen Triplets is the general
2) Must include Vampire Hexmage and Dark Depths
3) Minimum of 4 counterspells
4) Maximum of 8 counterspells
5) No cards with a mana cost over 6
6) Minimum of 2 cards with a mana cost of 6
7) Maximum of 4 cards with a mana cost of 6
8) Maximum average cmc is 3.20
9) Minimum of 38 land 10) Maximum of 5 mana rocks 11) Minimum of 15 creatures 12) Maximum of 22 creatures 13) 12 basic lands minimum 14) 18 basic lands maximum 15) Maximum of 12 artifacts
He was obviously trying to break me out of my comfort zone. Here's the deck I came up with that meets all these criteria:
So some of the card choices may seem a little bit goofy, but there you go. The two cards that I wanted to fit in were Army of the Damned and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, but they obviously didn't fit the criteria. Basically we're going for token control!
Deck tech:
I forgot to show the curve and average CMC of the deck in the video, so here it is:
As you can see, the deck's average CMC is 2.96, and there are only 4 cards with a CMC of 6, and none above that. Mission accomplished!
Game 1:
Game 2:
Game 3:
So this was an interesting experiment for me. I'm obviously not a control player, so I'm sure that I made plenty of mistakes. Feel free to point them out! The deck can sometimes get overrun by early aggro, but it usually does pretty well. Until next time!

Yeah, you can put a bunch of little 2 card combos in there. Include Bloodchief Ascension with Mindcrank, and include Sanguine Bond to go with Exquisite Blood. But then it sort of becomes a combo deck. You could lose the token elements entirely and build up to one of those combos. Add more tutors and more creature destruction. That's a slightly different deck though.

This build seems like a good excuse to include the Vizkopa Guildmage/Exquisite Blood combo, as well as the Mindcrank/Duskmantle Guildmage combo.
