I played GB Constrictor two weeks ago. Next week should be Mardu Vehicles, but right now it's time to take Jeskai Saheeli through a Friendly Standard League. I played GP Pittsburgh top 8 competitor Daniel Fournier's list almost card-for-card, with a couple tweaks explained in the deck tech. Give the videos a watch then keep reading for my thoughts on the deck.
Thanks for watching! I'm going to get right to the point: my sample in those videos was awful, as I never played against one of the big decks (other than maybe the mirror). Still, Jeskai felt pretty awful. Its cards are inefficient and often clunky, it has 11 lands that come into play tapped after turn 3 (plus Port Town, which doesn't always have a card to reveal), and the format is largely prepared for the combo. Still, the deck is reasonable because it never actually has to stabilize; it can just stay alive until it resolves the combo. I don't think the deck is reasonable against the format overall, but it may become solid if something pushes Mardu out of the metagame. Moving forward, I am interested in trying Grixis Control because it has access to more hard removal like Fatal Push and Unlicensed Disintegration. I might even experiment with Grixis splashing white so I can play the combo. Unfortunately, if you want to do well with control in Standard, you're probably out of luck at the moment.
