If you enjoy reading articles here on PureMTGO, I highly recommend you sign up for PureMTGO's forums. It's another great way to interact with other members of the MTGO community.

One of the great features in the forums in the CCC contest-- the Custom Card Contest.

Every month, There's a contest over at the forums. The winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) of the previous month's contest judge the next month's contest, and set the design specifications of that month's contest.

Last month I won third place, in the second time I entered the contest. Every month, there seems to be under twenty entries, and I'd like to see its popularity increased, even if it means more difficult odds at winning the contest. It's a great way to show some of your fellow MTGO players that you understand magic so well you even know how to template and design a card. Even if you lose, it's fun getting feedback, which only helps refine your designs so you can eventually win.

This month, kcsked, Winter.Wolf, and myself (atomicboosh on the puremtgo forums and in the MTGO client) are the judges, and we all agreed on kcsked's idea.

The Discussion and Submissions forums are located here for July.

Here's the actual contest for July:

This Month's Contest:

This Month's Custom Card Contest is to design a card that can easily get rid of a planeswalker card in play, yet not be totally useless in a game where no one is playing any planeswalkers.

Good examples of cards like this in the past are World Queller and Aether Snap
Image & Image

-Card can be any rarity
-Card can be any type
-Card can be any color(s)

Rules:
1. Submit your entries in the submission thread. Keep all posts other than submissions in the discussion thread.
2. Each contestant may submit only ONE entry. If you wish to solicit advice from your rivals and competitors on what to submit, do so in the discussion thread.
3. The contest is open until Friday July 23rd 2010 at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time. After that point, new entries will not be judged, and late edited entries may be penalized or disqualified.
4. Entries must be your own original work.

Scores:
Your judges are kcskedz, WinterWolf & atomicboosh

Each entry can earn up to 10 points in each of the following categories (for a total of 50 possible points per entry):
• Originality (To score highly in this category, the card should be innovative and groundbreaking.)
• Templating (To score highly in this category, the card should be worded correctly. We should understand what the card is supposed to do with one reading. In addition, matters of spelling, grammar and card layout come under this heading.)
• Balance (To score highly in this category, the card should be proportionately costed for its effect, neither game-breaking nor unusably weak.)
• Flavor (To score highly in this category, the card should conform to its color and types, and feel in-character for the game as a whole. Cards that tell an evocative story within what they do will benefit here.)
• Appeal (To score highly in this category, the card should be something that grabs at least one of the psycho-graphic profiles strongly as something they'd want to use. )

Prizes:
1st: $10 Certificate
2nd: $6 Certificate
3rd: $4 Certificate

Thanks to MTGO Traders for providing the prizes for the contest.

Winter.Wolf, kcsked, and I all hope to see your entries!!

Entry #1 simple upgrade from phantom warrior

Ambidextrous Entity 1UU

Ambidextrous Ambusher has double strike as long as a planeswalker is on the battlefield.

Added information:
Dealing 4 damage gives nice interactions with Garruk Wildspeaker (which can up loyalty to four) and especially jace 2.0 since they'll have to choose between unsummon and fatesealing, but neither will save the jace.

I think the contest is on the forums, not on this thread.

Contest itself sounds interesting.

Indeed. The only entries that will be judged are those in the July CCC thread on the forums. In addition we tend to expect a simulated card made with a renderer like Magic Set Editor.
