 Pack 1 pick 1:

This pack isn't great. Tamiyo is probably the best card and there's Swords and Inferno Titan as good options as well. I had been drafting many blue decks so I took Inferno Titan to try and draft something different.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 2:

Another pack that isn't that great. Pilgrim and Goblin Guide are the best picks this early in my opinion and even though I took Inferno Titan, Pilgrim goes better with it than Guide. But I also draft green ramp frequently so I took Guide.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 3:

Young Pyromancer is probably the best card here and certainly the best for monored.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 4:

Easy Lightning Bolt.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 5:

There's nothing here that fits a monored aggro deck so I took Kiki-Jiki in case I end up in UR Twin or even a more midrange deck with several fatties like Inferno Titan.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 6:

Spikeshot Elder and Devil's Play are both fine cards but not great. Hall of Triumph could end up being pretty good if I get several tokens cards. Right now it's a risky pick but it could turn out much better than those two.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 7:

Mogg War Marshal is not the most exciting two drop but it works well with Hall and there's nothing else for me.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 8:

If I'm playing cards like Mogg War Marshal because Hall makes them much better it's good to have something else to make those cards better. Purphoros seems like a good one in that plan.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 9:

No red cards so I took the card I least want to face.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 10:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 11:

I'm not a fan of either Cursed Scroll and Guttersnipe. I took Guttersnipe because there's a chance I might end up needing some creatures.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 12:

Rusalka is not bad if I end up with several token makers.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 13:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 14:

I'm not sure about this one. Tempt with Vengeance is great with Hall and Purphoros but Elder is a 1 drop, even if not a great one. I ended up taking Elder.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 1:

This is not a good pack at all, especially for me. Prophetic Flamespeaker has been weak when I face it and Staggershock while not bad, is not really what I want out of a first pick. Loxodon Warhammer can be good in aggro match ups and works well with tokens so I took it.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 2:

Dragon Fodder is not great and I'm certainly not excited to take it this early but it fits the deck well.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 3:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 4:

It's between Chandra and Hellkite. Chandra costing one less is big but I think Hellkite has a bigger impact in the game.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 5:

And I face another decision between two cards that are not ideal in the deck. I think Flame Slash is much more likely to be a good maindeck than Sparkmage.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 7:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 8:

Pillar of Flame and Frenzied Goblin are good, probably better picks than several I took earlier but I think the deck needs Mox Diamond with those 5 mana cards.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 9:

  Pack 3 pick 1:

After so many packs with 0 cards I want, I see one with 3 cards I'd certainly play and even Fire/Ice wouldn't be bad just for Fire. I took the 1 drop.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 2:

Phoenix is a 4 drop but if I really need I can play it as a morph and it usually requires two cards to deal so it's a good one.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 3:

I'm happy to finally be taking a good 2 drop.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 4:

Rift Bolt is good but I think Noble is better.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 5:

I don't think Bonfire is good without enough ramp. Sure, it's always good if you draw it on the right turn but if it's in your first 9-10 cards it's pretty weak. Hero on the other hand, is a good 4 drop.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 6:

I'd love Chain Lightning but Rabblemaster is also a good cards alone and even better with Hall and Purphoros.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 7:

  Pack 3 pick 8:

  Pack 3 pick 9:

I expected at least one red card to come back and Emissary is a good one.

Here's the deck:

M1G1:

I kept a decent hand but it became much better when my first draw was Stromkirk Noble. I played it and he played Fauna Shaman which I killed with Flame Slash after playing Emissary. He dropped a 2/3 Tarmogoyf and I played Teetering Peaks to make Emissary a 4/2 and attacked. He didn't block and I passed. I'm not sure if I should have pumped Noble instead. If he didn't block it would be even better because I would end up with a 3/3 that could maybe get past Goyf. And even if he traded, I would be getting rid of a potential really hard to deal with blocker.

He played a 4 mana Birthing Pod and passed. I drew and played Ashcloud Phoenix. He played Baneslayer Angel. I played Thundermaw Hellkite and attacked with everything. He blocked Noble and went to 4 life. He searched a Plains with Eternal Dragon and used Pod to turn his Goyf into Silverblade Paladin giving his Angel double strike and attacking with it. He also played Lightning Greaves and equipped his Paladin. However I topdecked Act of Aggression and stole Baneslayer to put him at exactly 0 life.

M1G2:

I kept 4 lands and my first 3 draws were lands as well so things weren't looking good. It didn't help that he had Scavenging Ooze and Blade Splicer against my Young Pyromancer and 3 tokens. His turn 4 play was Polukranos and all I could play was Purphoros. He attacked with just Polukranos and I blocked with a token. I played Goblin Rabblemaster before combat to try to win via Purphoros. I attacked with all 3 goblin tokens but he had Chord of Calling to get Baneslayer. I played Mogg War Marshal putting him to 15 and passed. He played Primeval Titan and attacked with Baneslayer, Polukranos and the Golem and I blocked with one token on his 5/5 to stay at 7. This was a bad play on his part because if I have or draw Act of Aggression and have an untapped land I win on my turn. I could pay 4 life on the Act, steal Titan, trigger Rabblemaster putting him to 16, attack with everything and he had to block Pyromancer and Rabblemaster. I use Purphoros ability to give +1/+0 to everything and deal exactly 16. I could even deal 2 more by getting Teetering Peaks with Titan. But I drew another land and lost. I think he had a better chance to win if he just kills Rabblemaster with Polukranos on his turn.

M1G3:

I started by suspending Greater Gargadon and played Gore-House Chainwalker on turn 2. However he had Wall of Omens to stop my attacker. I played Goblin Rabblemaster and he took 1. His turn 3 play was a Morph and that meant Exalted Angel. I played Peaks giving +2/+0 to the token but it was probably better to use it on the 3/2. I attacked with everything because it's better to trade Rabblemaster now than allow him to unmorph. He takes the trade and drops to 15. I played Mogg War Marshal and passed. He simply cycled Eternal Dragon, made his land drop and passed. I paid the echo and attacked with everything. He played Polukranos and at his end step I sacrificed Mogg War Marshal to Gargadon. On my turn I drew another land so I sacrificed a bunch of lands to cast Gargadon and attacked with everything. The wall blocked my big guy and his 5/5 blocked a token putting him to 7. He attacked me down to 15 and played Natural Order for Thragtusk. I attacked and he had to block Gargadon going to 8. He played Eternal Witness and got back Wall of Omens and played it as well. I drew Emissary and attacked with everything again. The Wall blocked my 9/7 again and he was down to 6 with just a beast in play while I had 2 tokens, Gargadon and now the Emissary. He played Scavenging Ooze and I attacked with just Gargadon which he blocked with the beast. He went up to 7 life at my end step. He played Primeval Titan and I drew Goblins Guide so I attacked with everything. He put Ooze in front of my Gargadon and Titan on Emissary going down to 3. He played Fauna Shaman, Reveillark and Blade Splicer and passed. I only realized I had the win on my turn because I could use the Smash to Smithereens I had the whole game to kill his Golem.

M2G1:

He started with Rakdos Cackler and I responded with Noble. He attacked and played Shrine of Burning Rage. I played Mogg War Marshal and attacked. He played Seal of Fire to kill my Noble and attacked. I blocked with both and got a token back. I played Rusalka and made 2 tokens. He was still stuck on two lands so I played Avalanche Riders and he played Lightning Strike on me. I attacked him down to 12 and passed. He suspended Rift Bolt and passed. I didn't want to pay the echo so I could play Hall of Triumph so I sacrificed Riders to Rusalka. I played Hall and put him to 3. He conceded on his upkeep.

M2G2:

He didn't have a turn 1 play and I started with Goblin Guide. It revealed Mountain and Bonfire before getting killed by Lightning Strike. I didn't play Mogg War Marshal on turn 2 so that he couldn't kill them with Bonfire but that was bad because that trade isn't bad for me at all. He suspended Rift Bolt and I played Mogg on turn 3. He killed the Mogg with Rift Bolt and played Chandra, Pyromaster to kill one token. I Bolted Chandra at his end step and played Rabblemaster to finish Chandra. He had the fifth land and used Bonfire to wipe the board. I could only play Firedrinker Satyr which I probably should have sided out and he played Precursor Golem. I don't think it's possible to have a bigger blowout has a 1 for 1 in the monored mirror than playing Smash to Smithereens on Precursor Golem and it put me in a good position has he had only 1 card in hand. I played Purphoros and attacked for 2. He played Staggershock on my Satyr and attacked with Mutavault. I didn't want to go to 6 life so I played Gore-House Chainwalker without a counter but I probably should have just played Hall. He killed my guy, attacked and played Goblin Wardriver. I was down to 3 life and drew Pyromancer to put him to 3 as well. I blocked his Mutalvault going to 1 and drew another land and conceded. It was a close game but and I think the 2 possible mistakes I made could have been the difference between winning and losing.

M2G3:

I started with Noble and his first land was Mutavault. I drew Guide on my second turn so I attacked for 3. He had Mizzium Mortars for Noble and I played Rabblemaster attacking for 3 again. He played Plains and Lightning Helix on Rabblemaster and now I had 4 lands with 2 five mana Dragons in hand. He played Chain Lightning on my Guide and I used my mana to deal 3 to him. He attacked with Mutavault and passed. I drew a land but it was Teetering Peaks so I attacked him for 3. His white splash was hurting him because he had 2 Plains and only one Mountain with Chandra in hand. I played Stormbreath Dragon because Path or Swords can't deal with it and put him to 3 and he conceded on his turn.

M3G1:

I had a good turn 1 with Mox Diamond allowing me to play both Noble and Satyr. He played a Swamp I didn't have another land so I just suspended Gargadon and attacked for 3. He played an Island and I drew Guide so I played it and attacked for 6. He played Impulse on my end step and conceded on his turn.

M3G2:

I had Mox Diamond again so I played Gore-House Chainwalker on turn 1. I played Guide on turn 2 and attacked for 5. He revealed Man-o'-War and that's what he played on turn 3 to bounce my 3/2. I attacked with Guide and he traded revealing Mana Leak. I played Hero and passed. He didn't have a land and killed my Hero during combat so I replayed my 3/2 and passed. I drew a land but I couldn't play Hellkite before combat because of Mana Leak and he used Pestermite to tap my Mox. I attacked and he blocked and after that I played Purphoros. He played Ashiok and exiled Rabblemaster but I used the chance to play Hellkite, put him to 13 and kill Ashiok. He untapped and conceded.

I was able to 3-0 despite not being the only monored drafter. The deck wasn't great because some packs were really bad for it and another person wanting the same cards but it had some cool synergies and I had some interesting games even beating Baneslayer Angel and Thragtusk. The finals were anti-climactic because his draw (and maybe his deck) was bad against monored and my fast draws and his mana problems didn't even allow me to see much of his deck. I hope you enjoyed this.
