I'm really hoping that you all have been keeping up to date on my quest for the MOCS.  I know season 10 was an abject failure.  A lot of things were to blame, but really outside of poor play, poor deck choices, I have no one to blame but myself.  I could have looked at the metagame and adjusted my deck choices better.  I could have tried to budget a bit more money for my constructed decks.  I could blame Worth, that is the popular thing to do on Twitter, but it's not his fault.  My play took a step back, I got bored, and I put too much pressure on myself to not be a failure.  It was a perfect storm of mediocrity.

If you noticed a while back I sword off pauper as a format.  It was dominated by free spells, fast mana, and a storm card that made the format a real chore to play.  Sure I could have pushed on with it, but it was not fun, I was miserable playing it, and I told pauper to give me a call when changes made, it was not me, it was the format.  A few weeks later I got a "Dear Josh" letter, the format said that it missed me, and that steps had been taken to ensure that games would be interactive again.  Most importantly the format said that it was finally leaving Cloudpost and Temporal Fissure.  It was tired of those cards making games drag on with repetitive loops that ended up with one player having a ton of things in play, and the other player having nothing.  It was tired of players abusing the powerful Locus land subtype.  It had enough and wanted to make a change, so the format banned those two cards from showing up for a while.  They may come back, they may not, but for now Pauper is the format that I fell in love with.  Neat interactions, underused cards, and a community working together to show off their love for a format that is under supported and possibly under appreciated by Wizards of the Coast.

With that letter (ok, it was actually a webpage, and it was not addressed to me.) I knew it was time to go back to Pauper.  My quest for the MOCS suffered when I locked myself into one format, and with Pauper being fun again it could rejoin the rotation I have with Standard and Modern (though I am taking a Modern break, I want to do awesome things with Master of Waves, and I am not sure how to get it done).  Of course, having time to play is a bit harder than it needs to be.  I'm trying some new things with the site branding wise.  I'm hoping to see that work pay off soon.  Facebook likes, twitter followers and karma are things I am working on, because I want to digitally grow the brand.  Heck later on this month we have a special week of content devoted to some of the most iconic creatures in the history of Magic.

I digress, I want to finish this up and then finish up the first Legend of Zelda game while my videos of are uploading.  Here is the list that I played in my reentry to pauper.  I guess with the amount of work and play I put in on Eye Candy, one would not be surprised if that were the deck, but come on, you clicked the teaser text, we all know I played Affinity!

First things first, this is not my list.  I do not remember who I net decked it from, and I would give credit if I did, so for those of you who are so inclined to demand that credit is given, I tried, I am just too lazy to look it up.  Maybe I did not try.  This is not too far from a stock Affinity list, your game plan is to make a bunch of cheap efficient creatures, and overwhelm the opponent with the shear speed that you produce.  What I really like about this list is the inclusion of Perilous Research.  I felt there would be a ton of black decks in the field, the Rats deck looks to gain advantage with one for one removal spells like Geth's Verdict and Diabolic Edict and disrupt your hand with Chittering Rats  The Research couples with the Ichor Wellspring or Chromatic Star to keep your hand filled up with threats.  Eventually the last fatty that they cannot deal with after the long early and mid-game grind kills them.

I think the deck matches up with the field pretty well.  You're as fast as Eye Candy (or whatever the UR Cyclops deck is called)  You have bigger monsters than Stompy, and Spellstutter Sprite does a whole lot of nothing against creatures that cost 7 but are coming into play for free.  Still I was a bit concerned with my deck choice for the event and got the fear, until Alex Ullman told me the deck was a fine choice to play.  So kudos to SpikeboyM!

My first Daily Event back was fun, it reminded me of my love for the format, and I'm glad I was able to make time to play in it.  The next four videos are my rounds from the event, I hope you enjoy the play back and my commentary!

Round One

Round Two

Round Three

Round Four

So a nice 4-0 happened.  The deck performed well, and got me past a few mistakes.  I think Affinity is a great choice in the Pauper metagame, and it showed it resiliency against the two Mono Black decks that I battled tonight.  True I may have gotten lucky in round four, but sometimes luck is all you have!

I just realized after a web search that Pauper to the People is taken as a content name.  This will be the last week I use it.  Whoops!  It does have a good ring to it though.  Help me come up with a catchy pauper title that is not being used and I'll ship a pack of Theros your way!  List those names in the comment section!  I'm the judge, I decide who wins!

I'm done here, next time we'll have a Theros draft for all of you to mock!  Thanks for reading and watching!
