Hey there everyone. So I had originally planned to bring you both events of last week. Unfortunately the Hermit Druid outing was pretty poor and I lost the round 1 footage. I figure I'll get right into the Business with the 4c Fish event. I played nearly an Identical deck as the last time I brought it out, with the exception of an extra Mental Misstep for one less Stifle. Here is a link to the last article if you want to see the video of the deck tech, otherwise here is what I ran with.

ROUND 1

ROUND 2

ROUND 3

ROUND 4

So I feel like I played the games pretty well with the exception of game 1 in round 2 against Osric. There were a few things I could have done. The most important would have been reading Scavenging Ooze and realizing that you gain life when you Exile Creature cards. I also could have blocked it with my 4/5 Tarmogoyf. But I goofed and then ended up losing to Dredge in round 4. Le sigh.

The next day I sleeved up Hermit Druid I will post the list I ran, which is super close to Xkorpio's list but I added a little bit of Misstep to fight the upped usage of Lightning Bolt. Unfortunately the event was a pretty big bust. In round 1 up against a Workshop deck I jammed out a Bayou, Mana Crypt and a Hermit Druid. He went turn 1 Phyrexian Revoker to turn off my duder. I tried Vampiric Tutor for a Chain of Vapor but I never found another land before I died. In game 2 I kept a greedy hand of Brainstorm, Hermit Druid, 1 land and air likeMental Misstep and Cabal Therapy. I played land. He played land Sphere of Resistance. I looked at my top 3 cards and scooped with 0 land.

In round 2 I was up against Oath. Game 1 he pretty much got the nuts. In game two I fought a Leyline of the Void and then got a Hermit Druid online. He responded with a second Leyline, and an Oath of Druids. I of course have a Nature's Claim. again for the win, unfortunately I misclicked and used my Claim on the Oath. He untapped and Show and Telled a 15/15 while I had air. I dropped after that and hit the bed. Here is the list I played.

Which brings us right along to the present and the release of the goodies we have been waiting for. I have started brewing and tweaking. Here was my first stab at a Snapcaster Mage deck. I build this on the fly and wanted to run it in the event with a bare minimum of testing. Spoiler alert I went 2-2 on the day. I started off well with a win VS GG Oath, and then I had horrible connection and timed out on turn 1 of game 3 in round 2 VS Workshops. Round 3 was a bye as my opponent unfortunately had pressing matters to attend to. In round 4 I was once again up against Dredge and I tied it up going into game 3. Once I got there though I ended up mulliganing to 3 cards. My hands weren't just lacking hate pieces, they were lacking lands in every mulligan I believe. I may have thrown back an ok 5 card hand with 0 Hate. I am not sure how good a build like this could be but it did show potential. In game 3 VS shops I had an ok hand and it would have not been a blowout. More testing I'm sure will come but I am more enamored with my newer build that tries to abuse Snapcaster as much as possible, and not just have him in there for "value". Here's last week’s deck first.

After the event we did our YSO recording and had Naoto sit in with us, fresh off his 4-0 performance in the Daily Event running quad laser Snapcaster Mage. He talked about how he came to the article and about some of his card choices. He also pointed out that I had missed Brian DeMars latest article which showcased a 4c Snapster deck. Based off the article, the event, and the discussion with Naoto I came to a list I thought I wanted to start testing with. Here is the original Vintage deck.

Snapcaster Mage

Using what I knew about the formats and what I knew about playing with the new card a little I brewed up the following list.

After two days of testing I got to see what Naoto did differently with his build. Some things I love are that (Flusterstrom) is amazing! And having zero enchantment removal game 1 is a mistake. There is a ton of Oath running around. I am a huge fan of the Goblin Welder as well. The deck might be too far tuned towards fish decks to have the best odds it can against Workshops, but so far my testing with this deck is showing close games in that match up and I am winning the majority. I've also beat fish and dredge a few times, but lost to Oath and Mono Blue control the times I played them. The Yixlid Jailers in the sideboard are terrible because they interfere with my own flashback, so they will have to go.

I like some of the cards in this deck and I dislike others. I am a fan of having the Chrome Mox over the Mox Opal and I want to be maxing out (Man Drain). I should find some cards to shave for things like Nature's Claim though and rework the sideboard too.

That's it for this week.

Classic Dailies are every Saturday at 12:30 PM EST and Sunday at 6:30 PM EST. Come on out guys!

See ya in seven, have at me in the comments if you wish.

Snapcaster grants flashback by menace13 at Mon, 10/17/2011 - 05:37

Snapcaster grants flashback on top of Jailers ability meaning the Flashback cost should work.

Why FoF over Jace? I mean i know it's instant and Flashback-able, but Jace equals a FoF in 2 turns and beats it in 3 not to mention with a shuffle effect he digs 6 deep in the same span. And when you add the Fateseal and Bounce abilities, It seems like it shouldn't be close.
I Don't know, have you tried it?

The Jailer removes ability, by under_the_hammer at Mon, 10/17/2011 - 06:03

The Jailer removes ability, snapcaster gives the ability so its a timestamp matters issue. Most cases the Yixlid Jailer will already be in play when the Snapcaster Mage's ability resolves so the target can be flashed back. There will be some rare cases where the Yixlid Jailer enters Play after Snapcaster Mage's ability resolves (aether vial with passed priority I guess....or you simply forget and cast out your own jailer before flashbacking the target so the Jailer's removes the flashback granted by the Snapcaster. So most of the time you can snapcaster flash. If you opponent attacks and chump blocks with a flashed snapcaster (target lightning bolt). Then at the post combat main phase you play Jailer it will move the flashback from the bolt so the snapcaster player cannot bolt the jailer.

Interesting about the time by whiffy at Mon, 10/17/2011 - 11:00

Interesting about the time stamps with yixlid jailer and snapcaster. I kind of like the use of surgical extraction though a little better. you can get more value with a snapcaster. and these decks are all about value.

at jace. I cut it from the origanal 4c list but played 2 in the bob caster list. I am still trying to find the right numbers. i will say that a late game top deck of jace is not quite as good as a late game fof. as you can just see so many cards. I guess as long as im dodging fish decks, jace is better then a 2nd fof.

also to just elaborate more on the flusterstorms, i like them because they force through all your big spells. a spell pierce, mana drain, misstep or a force of will wont stop a flusterstorm. Unfortunatly you need to get in a counter war over their permanents if you want to counter a jace or an oath or something. counter there thing, they counter, you flusterstorm.

In R1G1 when its clear Cat by Cownose at Mon, 10/17/2011 - 17:17

In R1G1 when its clear Cat Weasel got the nuts, might it have made more sense to scoop before playing any cards (so she doesnt know what deck you are playing to SB for) since she was almost certainly going to win anyway? You could have not played anything and waited to see what flavor of Oath she brought and then scooped and she wouldnt have known how to SB.

If I start using full boarder stuff like you do.. You think I will get in trouble?

Also... I don't know much about classic online compared to vintage irl... But since there aren't any moxes, isn't gorrilla shaman not worth it for the decklist you posted? For 0s it really only kills mana crypt... I can't think of many 1s besides sol ring and voltaic key, but as I said, I'm not to familiar with classic...

your right about shamen, he by whiffy at Mon, 10/17/2011 - 23:54

your right about shamen, he didnt make it to my list or Naoto's. i did use goblin welder though, he shuts down spheres and blightsteel colossus.

I dont think ull get in trouble. there are a ton of people who alter there stuff, i show it off every week too, not in trouble as far as i know.

Re: getting into trouble... no one can see the alterations you make. All the card image files are on each individual person's computer and it retrieves and shows you those images. So if someone else has an alter, you can't see and vice versa. So, in short, there is no way for them to know what has been altered and no you won't get into trouble.

I record stuff as well... So if a wizards guy watches, then they will know.

Goblin welder sounds like shaman but better for classic IMO... Just glad you didn't yell at me about the shaman:D. Keep up the good work man. Love the classic videos.

Hm... Well I guess I'll start altering some of my lands and hope for the best.

I've never heard of a problem from WTC with altering your MTGO cards.
