The Magic Pro Tour started a quarter century ago. For the first two decades, players could not earn a professional level wage playing Magic as a profession. That all changed in 2019, when a coordinated lobbying campaign, among other things, convinced Wizards to pay Magic pros a real salary. Two years later, Wizards has announced the end of Magic as a profession. Did #PaythePros kill the Pro Tour?

It’s Friday! It’s time for SoTP. Joshua is busy this week, so Pete is filling in. Wizards is banning lots of cards in lots of formats – will it bring back players? Wizards probably released a new product this week (happens every week, right?) and we have PT results. All this, plus the usual SoTP stuff, is just a click away.

Hi. Remember me? I used to write State of the Program, about MTGO, before I passed it on to Joshua. Apparently, I can't stay away. This time out, I am grading MTG Arena on several criteria - appearance, performance, economy, matchmaking - etc. etc. This article is a mix of praise, criticism, snark, and statistics; and is almost 4k words long. And it is all just a click away.

Pete's back. Sort of. I'm enjoying the break from weekly articles, but I am still interested in Magic and the Magic community. I am still playing – mainly Arena, but I will also be at FNM this evening. And I’m here today because Josh is sick, and I can fill in. But mainly I want to talk about Organized Play - or the lack thereof.

He recounts the changes, the disasters, his favorite events and what he would change if he had a time machine. This isn't goodbye, but this is Pete's last SotP, at least for now.
