Hello and welcome to Rick's Picks - Holiday Edition!
Holiday seasons are actually pretty busy for me in general. First of all, I think I enjoy Christmas more than a lot of people. It's by far my favorite holiday, so every year I actually spend a lot of time preparing for it, especially buying numerous gifts to loved ones (which can eat up a LOT of time). After that, there is my birthday, which is on the 26th, and I really do love getting older. I usually like to throw big parties for the occasion, and while this wasn't the case this year, I still got plenty of celebratin' going on with friends and family.
All that leaves me with surprisingly little time to devote to my own hobbies - which is the exact opposite of what most people think about the holidays. Luckily, MTGO ranks pretty high on my hobby list, so I managed to actually join a few tourneys. Today, I bring you two different drafts, each with a different old format to get nostalgic minds wandering. Seems fun? Let's get to it.

Great, man, I was really looking forward to your new installment (it's pretty much the only series about drafting I read/listen to, it's so good to follow your own thought chain in real time as opposed to just look at a bunch of choices afterwards).
Reading the nostalgia-related title, I had hoped for a cube draft, though! Instead, we get one of those super-boring Maques block, moan. Please, never do one of those ever again. :)
(Also: why you didn't ever acknowledge the presence of Brainstorm in pack 2? That felt weird to me).
Come on, Masques block draft is awesome! The thing is pretty much a griefer's paradise, with all the ridiculous effects that prevent combat from ever happening!
And yes, this enthusiasm may have to do with the fact that I opened a Tangle Wire and a Port in the space of two days. :)
As for Brainstorm, I guess I hadn't considered the obvious synergy with Rebel shuffle effects. I did try it in a subsequent draft and was impressed.
I could bet you were chasing money stuff in Masques (that's what Masques draft is for, of course), too bad you didn't tape one of the lucky ones, it would have been awesome to get your reaction in real time. :)
Out of curiosity: you DID do some cube draft during the holidays? Is there a hope we'll get one of those in the future of this series?
I didn't, mostly as protest because I really despise the prize structure they got going. Which is kind of a shame, because I was looking forward to playing with Lotuses and Recalls outside of Shandalar.
