September CCC Submission

Welcome, makers of music and dreamers of dreams. Magic has a rich history of 'enemy-pairs' when it comes to the cards. One needs to only look at Black Knight and White Knight or Pyroblast and Hydroblast to see what I mean. The task before you this month is to design a pair of cards that showcase this dualistic nature. Judging will be based on the pair as a whole so remember that. A nicely balanced pair scores far higher than a really good and a really bad card paired together.

Rules

1. Submit your entries in this thread. Keep all posts other than submissions in the discussion thread.

2. Each contestant may submit only ONE entry. If you wish to solicit advice from your rivals and competitors on what to submit, do so in the discussion thread.

3. The contest is open until Wednesday September 27th 2010 at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time. After that point, new entries will not be judged, and late edited entries may be penalized or disqualified.

4. Entries must be your own original work.

Scoring

The judges are ShardFenix, Niabock, and Bazaar of Baghdad

Each entry can earn up to 10 points in each of the following categories (for a total of 50 possible points per entry):

• Originality (To score highly in this category, the card should be innovative and groundbreaking.)
• Templating (To score highly in this category, the card should be worded correctly. We should understand what the card is supposed to do with one reading. In addition, matters of spelling, grammar and card layout come under this heading.)
• Balance (To score highly in this category, the card should be proportionately costed for its effect, neither game-breaking nor unusably weak.)
• Flavor (To score highly in this category, the card should conform to its color and types, and feel in-character for the game as a whole. Cards that tell an evocative story within what they do will benefit here.)
• Appeal (To score highly in this category, the card should be something that grabs at least one of the psychographic profiles strongly as something they'd want to use. )

Prizes:

1st: $10 Certificate
2nd: $6 Certificate
3rd: $4 Certificate

Should you place in the top three and thus win a prize, PM your Email Address to MTGO Traders (here on this forum) to receive your prize. In addition, victory brings with it the responsibility of setting and judging next month's contest.

Thanks to MTGO Traders for providing the prizes for the contest.

Well those are the rules and the announcement.  Now just to help you out a little I have a small visual spoiler to assist.  Please also note the visual spoiler is not going to have all the pairs but just a few that highlight the idea.

Blood Knight VS Silver Knight

White Knight VS Black Knight

Pyroblast VS Hydroblast

  VS

So there you are.  Some quick reference points to what we are looking for.  Multicolored cards are also excepted, but most work within the identity of the colors.  You may post your submissions in this thread and discuss the contest in this one.

Everyone please have fun and lets make this awesome.

I've already make a pair of cards. Just a few questions.
Do I have to register in the forum too?
Can I use mtg images for this? They fit well, and i'm sure i won't find any vedalken nor viridian anywhere.

Search deviantart.com for examples but be ware. Not all the art displayed there is for public use. Look for art that says it is for public use to be sure.
