This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
In the News this Week:
After last week, Wizards took a breather. We had almost no news this week. Wizards is rerunning old articles, and the blog was silent this week. Better yet, MTGO was stable, with no crashes or problems. The result – no news worth mentioning.
Masques Block Drafts starting: Urza’s Block drafts are over. (I busted a
Show and Tell first draft.) Now Masques block drafts are starting. The average value of a pack of Masques block boosters is $4.01, so you make money if you win even one round, or get lucky in the Rishadan Port / Tangle Wire / Daze lottery.
Gatecrash Previews: It is not really news, but the Gatecrash spoilers are rolling out – mainly on Facebook. Interesting cards, and some previews of mechanics. You should be able to find everything
here. At least until Wizards turns up the official site.
HammyBot: It’s still going strong! HammyBot was created to sell the late Erik Friborg’s MTGO collection to raise money for his widow and son. HammyBot is a great way to get cards while supporting the family of someone who supported the community. Here’s an update on the Bot, plus a note on a cool card that I saw on HammyBot.
Cards left on HammyBot: 28,380
TIX raised so far: 4,866
Another Legacy & Classic staple, so if you want to bling out your deck...
Opinion Section: The New Client
I have been playing the new client. I had written a long review, and I was not happy. However, I am not sure how much of the problem was the new interface, and how much was due to connection issues. I was connecting from my laptop, from the north woods.
Christmas in the northwoods was great, for everything except Internet-based activities. However, the lack of connectivity means that this week’s article will be short. Not a lot happened – the complete reversal of last week.
Cutting Edge Tech:
Not much this week. No big events, and nothing too interesting. I’ll have more next week.
Card Prices:
Notes: All my prices come from
MTGOTraders.com. For cards that are available in multiple sets, I am quoting the most recent set’s price. Thus, the price I’m quoting for Garruk Relentless is from M13. These cards are also available from the
MTGOTraders Bots, so check out mtgotradersbot, mtgotradersbot2,mtgotradersbot3, mtgotradersbot4, mtgotradersbot5, CardCaddy and CardWareHouse. These Bots often have the cards in stock even when the online store shows as out. Now, on to prices.
Standard prices are moving around a bit. Not a lot of change this week. Things may start changing as the new set begins to be revealed.

Modern prices trending up. Goyf dropped a bit, after soaring last week. Otherwise, prices are just shuffling around – no big changes.

Legacy and Classic prices are pretty much stable, although the impact of the MED events and Saga block drafts are beginning to trick through. Look for the impact of Mercadian Masques events to begin next week.

The Good Stuff:
Here’s this week’s list of the non-foil, non-premium cards on MTGO that cost more than $25 each. More and more cards from new sets are making the list, while the MED events have moved all the dual lands under $25.00, at least for now. Here’s this week’s list of MTGO gold:

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every non-foil card available on MTGO. Using this new method, the cost of owning a playset of everything on MTGO is $ 22,066 – albeit the cheapest copy of each card.
Weekly Highlights:
Christmas in the Northwoods with family was great, but it did not involve a lot of Magic.

You should be able to find everything here. Leads to a broken link.
Why price of Legacy cards didn't react at all on Season 1 announcement?
Only Wasteland is higher than usual. I know med, urza drafts were not so long ago, but in fact duals, should be much higher now and they are currently at the level when med drafts finished. Even Force of Will, which will be given as a promo, should be over 100 tix due to being used in almost every legacy deck. Even Tempest block cards didn't react and there were not any temepest drafts. I don't understand it now, someone smarter may explain it to me?
