News:
With the impending From the Vault: Relics release on MTGO we received the following announcement about Banned and restricted Changes:  WotC has decided to pre-restricted Sol Ring from numerous formats. You can find more details about the MTGO Banned and Restricted list here.

And of course, you can always tell the upcoming rumor season is around the corner with some new art... and the fine folks at www.mtgsalvation.com have rounded up the newest Scars of Mirrodin Art. Some sweet, sweet art and some scary names. I flinched when I saw Venser, Darksteel, Etched... etc. Should be amazing times.

Prices:
Serra Ascendant is up to 5, sold out, and rising.  I'm looking to find out the reasons for this, but haven't seen anything awesome currently.  Jace and Force of will are both hovering around the mid-70's and Primeval titan is in the low forties... give or take.

Watcha Been Playin’:
AJ: All in Red Spirits.  First turn Deus of Calamity is good times... for at least one of the players, anyway!
Erik: DDW, working on a Mono Black control deck... unsure of where to take it.

At U.S. Nationals, Conley Woods played a deck that featured 4 Serra Ascendants and went 6-2 in the Constructed Portion. A lot of MTGO players love them some Conley Woods' brews...

Yea the amount of Serra Ascendant/Ajani's Pridemate versions of the Emeria/Sun Titan deck on mtgo is unreal. I think 25% of games I'm playing are against that deck.

I'm not very surprised to see serra price increasing. This creature is pretty good for casual, and could probably find nice competitive decks to be ran, even if it is not the case the moment. To hardcast it sounds like a very good deal if it would come into play as a 6/6 flying lifelink guy. It is a pretty solid T1, maybe not as optimized than landfall lynx or guide, but get still a lot of potential in my opinion.

I am fairly certain counters by Paul Leicht at Tue, 08/24/2010 - 07:06
Paul Leicht's picture

I am fairly certain counters are not target-able and are not permanents but symbolic keepers of data about a creature. Same with Emblems. Which is why they go in the "Command" area. Since nothing in that area can be targeted.

The news on wither is insane. er I mean Infect -end edit-

There is so much going on right now that I am wishing I had tons of liquid tickets/credits. Now is a great time to start reinvesting or rearranging your collection to obtain all these new goods. (FTV and EvsT as well as the upcoming new set and there are still lots of M11 cards that are undervalued or bargain priced.)

glad you added something - clarification as to counters.
but again, comments regarding your own value and inability to purchase mtgo products add nothing to the conversation. it just seems like you constantly whine. and frankly, it's just embarassing to see that you are a grown man and still whining about how you cant afford X or Y. :/

It is far more embarrassing by Paul Leicht at Wed, 08/25/2010 - 03:22

It is far more embarrassing to you (I think) to constantly troll my comments for negative reactions and misread into whatever I say about my collection. In this case I was merely pointing out the tremendous opportunities available right now for those who are more affluent than myself. Sometimes this has not been the case and the market has been much thinner. If people have loose tickets right now, there is much to spend them on instead of waiting for something better to come along.

The 2hg idiots also love Serra and aside from being in Wood's life.deck, they are in every casual player's deck.

Rofl 2hg idiots. You mean the combo lovin, emrakul cheating, lifegaining idiots? I never play 2hg for that reason. Oh and I don't own any Ascendants much less, Serras.

@Paul-I am being a bit extreme there, since I am a 2hg idiot as well, but you cant play 2hg eternal, it's just too broken. Even more so with the 2hg set up we have online.

Std 2hg is veryyy fun with tourny decks and all. The games usually go for an hour and playing against WW,UGramp,UW,Jund,Vamps is silly fun.

Ascendant Price by Undeadgod at Tue, 08/24/2010 - 11:50
Undeadgod's picture

If you have played STD in the last 3-5 days you will probably have seen a massive shift to white weenie. I have seen tons of the deck that I assume are the cause of the price rise of ascendant.

It runs:
4 Soul Warden
4 Souls' Attendant
4 Serra Ascendant
4 Ajani's Pridemate (gets VERY big VERY fast)
2-4 Sun Titan

Many of the STD decks I played over the last weekend had the above or similar at their core. Also the deck had morphed a bit by sunday to include a few Linvala which would also explain her dissapearing act on the bots as well.

I checked the price on by ShardFenix at Tue, 08/24/2010 - 12:29
ShardFenix's picture

I checked the price on Linvala earlier today to possibly include in an Commander build and she is up to 10 tickets. Though for some reason I don't think this deck will be around too terribly long.

Linvala isn't even in this by rainin6 at Wed, 08/25/2010 - 00:16
rainin6's picture

Linvala isn't even in this deck. Linvala has become key in disrupting Naya decks aside from the norm of Cunning Sparkmage. That is, Linvala is being run as a singleton for Fauna Shaman in aforementioned Naya decks and also Mythic decks (particularly the U.S. National Champion's decklist which had 4 Linvala in the sideboard [Mythic]) Of course, being a mythic rare impacts this moreso. Conley's deck does not play any.

Linvala by Melissafey at Wed, 08/25/2010 - 02:48

Linvala was in Conley's sideboard to deal with Mythic and Naya as a 2 of.

Serra Ascendant is bonkers in by Cotillion Black at Tue, 08/24/2010 - 13:49
Cotillion Black's picture

Serra Ascendant is bonkers in any format in which you start w/ 40 life. Every Commander deck involving white has one, and it's seeing a lot of 2hg play, not to mention, as Undeadgod said, there has been a crazy surge of white weenie lifegain in the casual rooms.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I have been playing a white by lumbydan at Tue, 08/24/2010 - 14:09
lumbydan's picture

I have been playing a white weenie lifegain since M11 came out. I got all my Serra Ascendants for under 2 tix. My version uses Ajani Goldmane instead of Elspeth (because I am cheap, not becuase it is better). It is a fun deck to play.

4 Souls Attendants
4 Soul Wardens
4 Serra Ascendants
4 Ajani Pridemates
4 Kor Firewalker
2 Stoneforge Mystic
3 Student of Warfare
1 Sun Titan
1 Baneslayer Angel
1 Basilisk Collar
1 Sword of Vengeance
3 Ajani Goldmane
3 Condemn
2 O ring
2 Emeria the Sky Ruin
3 Tectonic Edge
2 Kabira Crossroads
16 Plains

Must you say "www." over and over at the beginning like that? I mean, is that even required anymore when you input an address? lol.. Just a minor suggestion, nothing more.

Typically WWW is used as an by Paul Leicht at Tue, 08/24/2010 - 17:51

Typically WWW is used as an extra host header so not usually necessary but some sites are defined solely with that so if you type the domain without it, you get a 404 error.

I am not sure myself, but someone said a nationals deck did really good with a deck build simular to the one lumbydan posted. Abusing ranger of eos of course.

Yes, ranger is another card I have been seeing in a lot of builds. Totally forgot about that one. Good call.

that deck has become such an by Kidsoldja at Tue, 08/24/2010 - 23:03
Kidsoldja's picture

that deck has become such an annoyance to play online, i just pretty much back out when i see it, for one reason only...the matches take so long because of all the triggered abilities that take place from a million soul wardens and pridemates on the field. Even though u f6 through that crap its still a pain in the butt. If this is what casual MTGO has turned into then its sad sad times. I love running my destructive force deck on these decks, it just wipes out all those little weenies and bye bye.

You don't even have to hit by rainin6 at Wed, 08/25/2010 - 00:18
rainin6's picture

You don't even have to hit F6. Easiest way to deal with Soul Warden and Ajani Pridemate triggers is when it is on the stack, instead of clicking okay, right click and select the first option. It will bypass it everytime for the rest of the game from that particular copy of the card. F3 at anypoint will remove all these bypasses in case you want to respond.
