This week I share a couple of Vintage decks with you featuring Goblin Welder and Time Vault. On the controlling end, Night's Whisper Control Slaver is featured. The other deck is an all-in hyper-aggressive combo build called Steel City Vault. Put on your welding goggles, and remember: a Mindslaver is a terrible thing to waste!

It's Friday! Wizards is changing Phantom and eliminating more formats. Modern Masters drafts will continue into July, and Wizards forgot to schedule the anniversary party in time, so it will happen next month. All that, plus more news, deck techs and prices, all just a click away.

Things happen for a reason. Playing at the SCG Columbus Modern Open, even with my poor showing, made me realize how much I miss regularly playing in person. As this PPTQ season is all about Modern, looks like a simple weekend dalliance is going to turn into a full Summer-long obsession.

In Vintage, people can sometimes be heard saying, "It has a good Mentor matchup." Sometimes you will hear someone declare the card to be broken, and you will hear someone else reply that it's an expensive Young Pyromancer, powerful but wildly overrated. Sometimes I'm asked, "Which do you think is favored in the Delver vs. Mentor matchup?" I began to answer by saying that Monastery Mentor is a card, not a deck.

There was a large paper event this past weekend and though the format was split there was ton of standard action. What I really enjoyed seeing was some of the brews or tier 2 strategies that showed up. I also checked out some of the 4-0 lists from the dailies. Join me as I take a look at what was hot and what was not so hot.
