Well here is the fourth weeks draft.  It started off pretty well, and then took a turn into I'm not sure what I am doing here.  It was not because I was valuing cards weirdly, I was reading in to the wrong signals, and could not make a decision to just pick the best card for my deck.  My mind was a little off during the draft, for a good reason, and I just could not keep it clear.  I do think there is a bit of a value to this draft though, a kind of a when keeping it real goes wrong moment, or a what not to do teaching lesson.

Don't go full Claytor.  Whatever you do DO NOT go full Claytor.

Let's take a look at the draft, and we'll move on from there.

Pack 1 pick 1:

  My Pick:

I do not like going with a full wedge on my first pick, but the Knuckleblade is a powerful card and in my mind the best card in the pack.

  Pack 1 pick 2:

  My Pick:

Winterflame kills morphs, stops a big guy, and fits in Temur.  Seems like a natural pick.

  Pack 1 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Going from one wedge to another when there is a great land in the pack was the wrong pick. I see the Abomination going really late, and the Falls, is just better.  Fixing my mana was the right call here.
  Pack 1 pick 4:

  My Pick:

One of my most favorite cards in the set, and I enjoy having them around in my limited decks.

  Pack 1 pick 5:

  My Pick:

I guess here I was thinking I could stay with Temur and splash black.

  Pack 1 pick 6:

  My Pick:

Hooray land!

  Pack 1 pick 7:

  My Pick:

Another one of my most favorite cards in the limited format, I love morphs, I love getting extra benefits from my cards, and I like having better morphs than my opponents.

  Pack 1 pick 8:

  My Pick:

This should have been Arrow Storm.

  Pack 1 pick 9:

  My Pick:

It was this or the Adept.  I went with the two drop.
  Pack 1 pick 10:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 11:

  Pack 1 pick 14:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 1:

  My Pick:

I do not think I can argue this pick.  I could have just hate drafted it, but I went with this pick, and decided to look into Abzan a bit more.

  Pack 2 pick 2:

  My Pick:

If I were going Abzan, the scales would have been the pick.  They play so well with Outlast creatures.  I took this as a morph for my plans.

  Pack 2 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Mana fixing too early, should have taken the strike or the delve pump spell.

  Pack 2 pick 4:

  My Pick:

This made me think that Abzan was open, or at least more open than I could read it as being.

  Pack 2 pick 5:

  My Pick:

Maybe it is open, and the Temur is just not coming along.

  Pack 2 pick 6:

  My Pick:

At least I got a storm!

  Pack 2 pick 7:

  My Pick:

Again another not sure what I am doing here.  Dead Drop and Gain Land are both better than this.

  Pack 2 pick 8:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 9:

  My Pick:

Kin Tree Warden feels better here.

  Pack 2 pick 10:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 11:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 12:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 13:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 14:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 1:

  My Pick:

This should put me firmly in Abzan.

  Pack 3 pick 2:

  My Pick:

I really like this card.  The whole grow a giant guy appeals to me.

  Pack 3 pick 3:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Loxodon or Falls here would have been a better pick.

  Pack 3 pick 5:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 7:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 8:

  My Pick:

Boon would have played better with the small amount of Outlast creatures that I have.

  Pack 3 pick 9:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 10:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 11:

This week I am just showing off the draft, there is no game play here.  There is a reason for this though.  Every so often I get a tendency to just get sick out of the blue.  It may be from something I ate the day before, and drinking something, but my body wants to reject the very idea of being upright.  Normally I would take my laptop and play while in bed, but I have yet to put v4 on it.

Halfway before the draft was done, it hit me.  There was no way I was going to be able to play this draft out fully.  I thought I was okay, but ended up standing up next to a trash can during the last twenty or so picks.  The deck had already done poorly, but I figured I would try my best to soldier through it and play on.  I lasted two turns before I conceded the match and logged off mtgo to take care of other matters.

This is the deck that I built.  It was not a bad draft and I feel like I had a pretty good plan, but the whole getting sick thing really ruined it for me.

You seem to value Shambling by Rerepete at Tue, 10/28/2014 - 14:08

You seem to value Shambling Attendants Higher than me and not value Mardu Hateblade at all. You also seem not to value Taigam's Scheming; It helps to look at the top 5 of your library to manipulate your draw order and also pitch extra lands and other outclassed cards to help along delve.

After taking the invocation, I would have looked harder at the Rotting Mastodon harder.

I've seen a lot of people say that Scheming is just awful, but I enjoy it, only if I am really in Sultai. I'm not a huge fan of hateblade, for some reason I tend to stay away from one drops, but that guy is very playable.

Being a blue based mage myself, I always like to have one scheming and one disdainful stroke in my 40

Are you gonna head down to Nashville for the Grand Prix?

I do want to, but I have my son this weekend, and we are going to do do halloween stuff!

It is entirely possible that plan will be much cooler than hanging out with Magic geeks in Music City.
I guarantee you would regret missing the opportunity to do Halloween with your son more than you would regret missing the Grand Prix.
