THOUGHTS OF A TRIBAL HOST
by Kumagoro

So, there's a new bug in tribal town: new cards from Magic Origins (except, curiously, a few of them, like the Mentor cycle) aren't considered legal when you try and build Legacy Tribal Wars decks (the error alert "deck contains illegal cards" appears, and the deck wouldn't load if Tribal Wars is selected as a format). The bug needs to be reported as much as possible, so do your duty and click here.

I'm facing a bug of my own these days, in that I don't seem to be able to upload videos on YouTube anymore: they all get the well-known "stuck at 95% processing" phantom error, but lately, that happens to all of those I try to upload, and after being playable for a little while, they get quickly demoted to "not working, please delete this", whereas in the past the occasional stubbornly processing video would actually play just fine, indefinitely. I tried with different browsers (except Explorer because, ugh), to no avail. And the videos are made the same way as always (i.e. with Camtasia Recorder). Suggestions are welcome. I need some help there.

LAST WEEK ON TRIBAL APOCALYPSE...

  • Event Number: 5.29, Week 238 BE
  • Date: July 25
  • Attendance: 22
  • Rounds: 4
  • Subformat: Pure
  • Winner: ScionOfJustice (Wizard)
  • 1 Loss: seaandrhythm (Faerie), fliebana (Human), Golden_Lin (Minotaur), Kasparadi (Bird), mihahitlor (Goblin), The_Sensei (Faerie)
  • Underdog Prize: PinGGHypnotic Juggernaut
  • Tribes: Artificer, Beast, Bird, Faerie (x2), Goblin (x3), Human (x2), Juggernaut, Knight, Kor, Minotaur (x2), Myr, Orc, Rogue, Snake, Soldier, Wizard, Zombie
  • Event link (with all players, pairings, standings, decks, and results): here it is

Remember ScionOfJustice's Wizard combo deck with Helm of Awakening, Altar of the Brood and Sensei's Divining Top? Well, one week later, maybe thanks to the Pure Tribal meta being more forgiving, he tried it again and this time managed to pilot it all the way to the... top. For those who just tuned in, the list is here, only with Ponder in place of Brainstorm (which is banned in Pure events) and one Jace, the Mind Sculptor more.

And speaking of Sensei's Divining Top, that's the crucial element of another Top 4 deck, this Human concoction by returning tribal aficionado fliebana.

See how the Top's endless recursion fuels Monastery Mentor? And there's also Sky Hussar played straight and Containment Priest as a counterspell for creature shenanigans. All in all, a great package.

But let's make one step back to Scion's deck to say: speaking of Jace, the Mind Sculptor... here's a Caw-Blade deck without blades (again, banned in Pure events) that I would nickname Caw-Jace. It's from a new player, Kasparadi, and of course it's a Bird deck.

Moving to the Underdog of the week, that's a great, forgotten tribe: Juggernaut. Here as played by PinGGHypnotic. May your war contraptions never stop blindly attacking!

Last but not least, AJ_Impy is continuing his series on Human Virtues, with a deck where all Humans are indestructible, or something of the sort. I had a great match against this deck with my Jace, Architect of Thought/Doubling Season brew, and I wish I'd be able to show it to you!

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME!

Just to remind you of a few things:

Cockatrice Wants You! And Badger, too! Be the first to win a match with these new eligible tribes and you'll win a 1-tix certificate from MTGO Traders. Remember: only tribes with at least 3 members are effectively considered tribes in Tribal Apocalypse (since tribes that field an equal or greater number of Changelings than actual members count as Shapeshifter decks). Tribes with exactly 3 members are allowed to play in Underdog events with 8 slots filled by Changelings, whereas nobody else (but, of course, Shapeshifter decks) can play with more than 4 Changelings in those events. And of course this will happen only as soon as the Changelings will work on V4 as promised.

The Underdog Prize: During any event of the regular rotation (but not during the one-time special events), all players who are running an Underdog Tribe are eligible for a 1-tix credit on Pennybot. The tie-breakers are first the number of Underdog categories (for instance, a tribe that's simultaneously Endangered and Unhallowed will take the prize over one that's only Endangered), then the points achieved in the final standings. During Underdog events, only the True Underdog tribes are rewarded (those are the tribes belonging to all three categories of Underdog at once).

The Up-and-Coming Prize: When a tribe wins an event for the first time ever (losing Unhallowed status), its pilot will get a 3-tix certificate from MTGO Traders.

The Hamtastic Award: The Biodiversity Prize dedicated to the memory of Erik Friborg has started the third quarter of 2015. The quarter will end September 26. By that date, the player or players who registered the greatest number of different tribes will get a 5-tix certificate from MTGO Traders. Congratulations to last quarter's winner, Generalissimo!

The Achievements (sponsored by AJ_Impy and vantar6697): Unlock the greatest number of Achievements from this list and AJ and vantar will grant you 10 tix per quarter! The current quarter will end September 26. Players with the same number of achievements will split the prize. 10 more tix will be given at the end of the year to that whole season's Achievement Master. Good luck and congratulations to last quarter's Achievement Master, ScionOfJustice!

The Top Players Lockout: Every time a Top Player (either a Google Era Top 8, an Ultimate Champion/Tribal Player of the Year, or a seasonal Top 8) will end undefeated, they will not be allowed to register the same tribe and deck again for 5 events (i.e. they'll have to register a different deck or decks 5 times before coming back to the undefeated one). With "deck" is meant a specific, recognizable archetype (e.g. Wall-Drazi), which in some case will be linked to a specific combo card (e.g. Helm of Obedience). A list of the current lockouts is maintained here.

Videos: Send us replays of your games and we'll feature them in these articles! Don't know how? Read this quick guide in 5 easy steps and start saving your tribal feats for posterity!

If you recall the prior week by ScionOfJustice at Fri, 07/31/2015 - 18:33

If you recall the prior week I missed round 1 to being really hung-over and went 3-0 with the deck (didn't even lose a game if memory serves me). For this event, I managed to get up by 1pm east coast time and not miss round 1.
