THOUGHTS OF A TRIBAL HOST
by Kumagoro
We're almost halfway through the season, so it's time to interview last season's champions! You'll find an interview to Player of the Year ScionOfJustice here (if not right now, soon enough), and then we'll do something with Ultimate Champion mihahitlor, since we already interviewed him back in the time, when he was 2012 Player of the Year (my, time flies!). Get ready for... something, miha. :)
LAST WEEK ON TRIBAL APOCALYPSE...
- Event Number: 6.18, Week 279 BE
- Date: May 7
- Attendance: 16
- Rounds: 4
- Subformat: Underdog
- Winner: Robin88 (Kor)
- 1 Loss: ScionOfJustice (Archon), mihahitlor (Plant), csrrcr (Soltari), Generalissimo (Kor)
- True Underdog Prize: AJ_Impy (Advisor), Golden_Lin ( Masticore)
- Tribes: Advisor, Archon, Berserker, Centaur, Devil, Kobold, Kor (x2),Masticore (x2), Pegasus, Plant, Shapeshifter, Soltari (x2), Specter
- Event link (with all players, pairings, standings, decks, and results): here it is
"Equipments matter" Kor, which is Kor at its purest, suffer in Underdog from the lack of Batterskull and Swords of X and Y. Robin88 successfully tried a more toolbox-based approach here, with just good ole Loxodon Warhammer as a power equipment, and then a full set of Mortarpod, the wonderful Captain's Claws (which is relevant in Kor, too, not just in Ally), and other utilities like Mask of Memory. Also interesting it's Molten Vortex, a very powerful card that doesn't see enough play.
Same colors but entirely different way to go from the other Kor deck, by Generalissimo, also ending in the prizes. Remember all those old Kors who liked to redirect damage to something else? Pretty useless, right? (Well, except within the Cephalid Illusionist "Breakfast" combo). What if you paired them with Boros Reckoner and Stuffy Doll? And of course Kor Firewalker, who for once gets to be both combo piece (due to all those red sweepers, you know) AND meta call! It's a fun deck that's also pretty cheap to build. Because, seriously, nobody wants those old Kors.
Finally, Advisors! A tribe that has recently gotten a little bit of love in the Legendary Cube Prize Packs (or Commander 2015, if you will). And AJ_Impy loves tribes that don't get enough love, so here we are. The sheer power of that line-up would have deserved a better placement, if you ask me.

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME!

Just to remind you of a few things:
The Underdog Prize: During any event of the regular rotation (but not during the one-time special events), all players who are running an Underdog Tribe are eligible for a 1-tix credit on Pennybot. The tie-breakers are first the number of Underdog categories (for instance, a tribe that's simultaneously Endangered and Unhallowed will take the prize over one that's only Endangered), then the points achieved in the final standings. During Underdog events, only the True Underdog tribes are rewarded (those are the tribes belonging to all three categories of Underdog at once).
The Up-and-Coming Prize: When a tribe wins an event for the first time ever (losing Unhallowed status), its pilot will get a 3-tix certificate from MTGO Traders.
The Hamtastic Award: The Biodiversity Prize dedicated to the memory of Erik Friborg has started the second quarter of 2016. The quarter will end June 25. By that date, the player or players who registered the greatest number of different tribes (except Human, Elf and Goblin) will get a 5-tix certificate from MTGO Traders. Congratulations to last quarter's winner, Generalissimo!
The Top Players Lockout: Every time a Top Player (either a Google Era Top 8, an Ultimate Champion/Tribal Player of the Year, or a seasonal Top 8) will end undefeated, they will not be allowed to register the same tribe and deck again for 5 events (i.e. they'll have to register a different deck or decks 5 times before coming back to the undefeated one). With "deck" is meant a specific, recognizable archetype (e.g. Wall-Drazi), which in some case will be linked to a specific combo card (e.g. Helm of Obedience). A list of the current lockouts is maintained here.

I think you should start another list additionally: The Top 10 Cheapest NON-GOBLIN Decks that Went Undefeated!
From my experience, those Berserkers were at least half Goblins, the Warriors probably, too. So, there are just 2 real non-gob decks in top 10 right now.
I might do that.
After editorial review, we have decided to not publish the interview with ScionofJustice.
While Kumagoro did a wonderful job writing it, the subject matter was felt to not be suitable for the site. While it was heavily edited, we felt it was in the best interest of the site to not publish it.
