I cracked a whole box of COLLECTORS BOOSTERS all for those SHINY etched foils. I have no regrets, especially when I hit one of the cards I so DESPERATELY WANTED.

Liesa, Shroud of Dusk is a big beautiful salt and pepper Angel of taxing, and I'm a little bit in love. A solid flying lifelink 5/5 body for 2WWB is already pretty good, but then you see that she taxes EVERYBODY (including you, yes). Whenever any player casts a spell, they lose two life. In addition to this, Liesa will give you the option to reduce her Commander tax for each time she is cast from the command zone at the cost of two life. A small price to pay for you to be able to always cast her back, if you have enough life to lose.

YOU WILL LIKE THIS DECK IF:

You don't like your friends.
You like playing lengthy games of commander.
Slow games don't eat at your soul like some sort of parasite.

YOU WON'T LIKE THIS DECK IF:

You like your friends.
You want fast games that end in less than an hour.
Slow games eat at your soul like some sort of parasite.

I DID NOT HIT HER.

Before we get in to the main deck, let me just say that Vilis, Broker of Blood is perfect in this deck. From mass card draw due to Liesa, Shroud of Dusk's recast text, to getting stung every time we cast a spell, Vilis is extremely under rated. Imagine that you have to lose two life every time you cast a spell, but in exchange for the blood you've shed, you draw a card for each life lost this way. The amount of card advantage generation is silly and I'm surprised more people don't play him in the 99.

Taxing people definitely is the deck's purpose here, but not STAXing them because we want people to...you know.... PLAY commander. Kambal, Consul of Allocation is the right pick for our first TAX effect, not just because he will tax each opponent for casting a non-creature spell, but also because you will net two life for each time he triggers. Add in the factor of the commander does a very similar effect and you could be taxing the table FOUR life per spell. That's not many spells needed to close out the game at all and Kambal should be one of your first options to tutor for.

Next up, we need to look at some Extort to keep the pressure going. Tithe Drinker offers Extort and Lifelink, Treasury Thrull gives Lifelink and also when it attacks we can dig up any artifact, creature or enchantment from our graveyard to our hand and Blind Obedience offers Extort and also artifacts and creatures our opponent's have enter the battlefield enter tapped to slow them down. Speaking of tapped creatures, Authority of the Consuls will ensure that opponent's creatures enter the battlefield tapped and we gain a life each time one enters under their control. Personally, I think you should consider adding MORE extort cards and make it an underlying theme of the deck so that you can keep on taxing your opponents.

OH HI MARK.

Who knew Hatebears could be THIS much fun? I certainly didn't, but here we are! And by fun I actually mean been forced at gunpoint to watch every season of Voyager, but HERE WE ARE!

The aim of STAX is to stop everyone else playing the game, the aim of TAX is to slow the game down and TAX everything your opponent's play. That being said, we are playing Drannith Magistrate mostly to lock out spells from anywhere other than your opponent's hands, but has the unintended consequence of actually just locking out commanders.

Okay, mini discussion time. You should build your deck with your commander in mind, but not to work off ONLY your commander. Your deck build should always run stuff in the main that can, if possible, act the same way as your commander so that anything like this is an inconvenience, but NOT a game ender for you. That's a next level deck building thought exercise for you.

Back to the deck tech, yeah? Aven Mindcensor is great to stop combo decks from being able to tutor for consistency, making it much hard for them to achieve whatever it is they want to do. Tocatli Honor Guard, Hushbringer, and Hushwing Gryff all shut off triggered abilities of creatures entering the battlefield, this means all those horrible Animar, Soul of Elements decks get straight up HOSED. On the other side of this, we have Damping Matrix to shut off activated abilities of Creatures and Artifacts as well. In this spot, depending on your meta, you may also want to consider Null Rod and Cursed Totem.

Next up, let's lock out those Reanimator and Flashback decks. Containment Priest, Grafdigger's Cage, Silent Gravestone, and Kunoros, Hound of Athreos all work mostly the same, locking creatures into graveyards. Kunoros also makes sure spells can't be cast from graveyards and the cage does this for both graveyard and library.

Anyway, how's your sex life?

STOP! Your opponents from attacking you. Sorry, that sounded awkward, but not unlike a fart in an elevator, so two is the awkward annoyance of Ghostly Prison, Windborn Muse and Sphere of Safety. Assisting in making your opponent's either maxing out to try and cap you, or ignore you and continue to build a stable horde of creatures. Add in Aura of Silence as a nice way to slow down those annoying artifact and enchantment based combo decks and comes in handy much more than you might assume.

Continuing the punishment theme, we have Eidolon of Rhetoric to slow down spells being cast, Silent Arbiter to make sure that only one creature can attack or block each combat so your fatty flying finishers get full rein and Angelic Arbiter to lock down the table and force opponents to either attack or cast spells. Delicious. Erebos, God of the Dead is here to ensure we can lock down any nasty life gain decks, we want to tax your life, not let you gain life! Fate Unraveler is here for massive gain, everyone draws cards and everyone now gets punished for it.

Everybody betrayed me! I’m fed up with this world.

Time to end the game and to do that, let's go BIG! Sun Titan is a big 6/6 vigilance beast and his ETB and on attack trigger can target most things in the deck. Sheoldred, Whispering One is perhaps the coolest Swampwalk creature ever printed, part necromancer, part home wrecker with a 6/6 body dto do some neat damage. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite pumps your creatures and shrinks your opponent's down to a stub, though she doesn't have flying, she can WRECK tokens. Pristine Angel is only a 4/4 flier, but she more than makes up for it with her pseudo vigilance and protection while untapped, making her a terror in the sky. Avacyn, Angel of Hope is probably one of white's most iconic commander creatures, an 8/8 flying/vigilance/indestructible that makes all your other permanents indestructible is just the be all and end all that will ahhh end all.
