Scott Pilgrim is one of the most underrated films of the last ten years. When people talk comic book adaptations, rarely do you hear people discussing how Scott Pilgrim stays so close to the source material and only making minimal story changes to make it big screen watchable.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD - MOVIE OVERVIEW

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a 2010 action comedy film co-written, produced and directed by Edgar Wright, based on the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley. It stars Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, a slacker musician who must battle the seven evil exes of his newest girlfriend Ramona for.... some reason. And stuff. Look, go watch the movie and come back, okay?

SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD - DECK OVERVIEW

Nekusar is all about drawing, redrawing and a slow horrible death for your opponents. But also, the wheel effects he uses to kill are like transporting the cards in your hand to another zone using the subspace highway (one of Scott Pilgrim's special powers and modes of transport). We can focus the deck on mainly this aspect, extra turns and copy effects for our spells all to symbolize the game-like Scott Pilgrim comics.

MAIN CHARACTERS - DUDE, THIS THING CLAIMS I HAVE MAIL...

Nekusar, the Mindrazer

Nekusar, the Mindrazer as Scott Pilgrim
Nekusar suits Scott's character well, but maybe not 110%. Just like Scott, Nekusar unwittingly damages all the people around him until his redemption at the end of the movie. To signify this, we are running a base of Nekusar Wheels because though we want a theme deck, it still needs a way to win.

Revel in Riches provides a treasure token or "coin" every time we kill an opponent's creature. Not unlike the film where every time Scott defeats an opponent, he is showered with coins. Also with numbers but hey, we don't have anything for that. Sorry...

Sword of Fire and Ice is a lot like the sword at the end of the movie that Scott pulls out of his chest after being killed by Gideon. A flaming end weapon that he uses to end Gideon... ahhh spoilers, I guess.

Dream Halls is in the deck to signify Scott's first dream about Ramona Flowers where he falls madly in love with her before he meets her in real life.

Jhoira of the Ghitu

Jhoira of the Ghitu as Ramona Flowers
Ramona, not unlike Scott, also has access to the subspace and uses it for travel. To show this, Jhoira can suspend non-land cards from our hand. This also suits the purpose of her job as an Amazon delivery girl. And Jhoira's original card does sort of look like Ramona too, so BONUS!

Along with Jhoira of the Ghitu, we are running her favorite weapon, Loxodon Warhammer. Mostly because she wields a hammer and... well, there isn't any really good hammers in Magic. She also has her goggles in the form of Pyromancer's Goggles.

Consecrated Sphinx

Consecrated Sphinx as Wallace Wells, the "cool gay roommate"
Scott's roommate in the movie is just a ball of dark sarcasm and apathy. He really just seems to be doing life because "life" and doesn't really feel like he has any emotions to go with that life. So, Consecrated Sphinx is going to fill that role. All we really want it to do is provide stupid levels of card draw.

(Kess, Dissident Mage) as Knives Chau a "Scott-aholic"
Knives Chau is the schoolgirl dating (and completely obsessed with) Scott, so we need a creature that will compliment Scott's goal. Kess works perfectly for this, as she allows us to replay our used wheels and other instants and sorceries for maximum effect.

Musician

Musician as Stephen Stills, lead singer.
Stephen Stills is the lead singer, guitarist and "talent" of Sex Bob-omb. Musician might just be a lazy cop-out, but what better card to represent a musician?

Notion Thief

Notion Thief as Kim Pine
Kim is an ex of Scott and the drummer of Sex Bob-Omb, so I think in this deck she would fit in to be Notion Thief, to have something in common with Scott (Nekusar). Also, as a drummer, she has to not only keep time but also provide the beat or in this case, additional card draw.

THE LEAGUE OF EVIL EXES - DEAR MR PILGRIM, IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT WE WILL BE FIGHTING SOON.

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind as Matthew Patel
Matt is the first of Romona's evil exes and has flight and the ability to hurl fireballs. Not unlike Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind who has flight and slings one point of damage to any target when we draw a card. Whith all of the wheels we're playing, it's going to feel a lot like 7 damage fireballs being thrown around the table!

Jace, Cunning Castaway as Lucas Lee
Because he's nothing without his stunt crew! Jace's plus one nets us card draw and still helps us to kill the table, his minus 2 and can make illusions which is almost on theme for Lucas, but because Jace can make copies of himself, he really shines as being Lucas. Sure we could have maybe played a different commander and used Rite of Replication and Biovisionary, but wheres the fun in that! I mean.... other than claiming Lucas would win on his own as Biovisionary.

Psychosis Crawler

Psychosis Crawler as Todd Ingram
Todd is bassist of Scott's exes band, Clash at Demonhead and vegan. The type of vegan that wants everyone to know just how vegan he is. He is arrogant, narcissistic, uncaring, also being a pathological liar. Yeah, that sounds like Psychosis Crawler to me. Gross and uncaring, dealing damage indiscriminately to the table at large.

Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow as Roxanne "Roxy" Richter
Roxanne "Roxy" Richter is Ramona's fourth evil ex and her former college roommate. She is a "half-ninja" (kunoichi) and an accomplished fine artist, who taught Ramona much of what she knows of her ninja abilities and subspace. We need a ninja here and I feel like Yuriko's ability, though limited in this deck, is still an amazing ability to have.

Dragon-Style Twins

Dragon-Style Twins as Kyle & Ken Katayanagi
In SPvsTW, the twins summon a giant EDM dragon to battle against Scott and Sex Bob-omb, so it's fitting that we use (Dragon-Style Twins). They also have prowess, so the number of spells we play increase how big the dragon is.

The Locust God as Gideon Graves
Gideon thinks he's a god and carries himself the same way. Makes sense that a big-time record exec and club owner would not only think he's a god among men but also act like one. So whenever we draw cards from those wheel effects, we can get an army of 1/1 insects to do our dirty work. Just like every end boss ever.

WHEELS - WE ARE SEX BOB-OMB AND WE'RE HERE TO MAKE YOU THINK ABOUT DEATH AND STUFF...

Okay look, you knew this was going to happen, didn't you, that I would need to list how we are going to kill our opponent's right? We wheel the entire table after Nekusar, the Mindrazer hits the board.

Commit/Memory Fateful Showdown Jace's Archivist Time Reversal Wheel and Deal Whirlpool Warrior Windfall Magus of the Wheel Molten Psyche Reforge the Soul Dark Deal Incendiary Command Winds of Change Khorvath's Fury Wheel of Fortune Wheel of Fate Game Plan Dragon Mage Collective Defiance.

Well, that's all for today!
