Okay so this wasn't totally a way for me to use my IRL Wheel of Fortune to get as much value out of a $90 investment in a super gross Underworld Breach combo deck, I swear. Except I guess it was. Vadrok seemed like the place to go for a wheely good time, even though we have somewhat better “wheel” commanders, Vadrok can actually be a took box style commander because of being able to re-use tutors over and over.

Mutate might be weak due to a small card pool, but that doesn't mean we can't take full advantage of some really neat and super gross interactions. First up, you need to know that if your commander is in a stack of creatures, no matter WHERE it is, that is still your commander and that STACK do commander damage. This means that your Thing in the Ice with Vadrok underneath is your commander, better so when it FLIPS and becomes a 7/8 Kraken Horror, bouncing everyone else's non-horror creatures and leaving you to smack someone for seven commander damage. That's not gross though, throw in a reusable Boros Charm to give it Double Strike, and now you're talking cheese. Having a commander that you can mutate on to other creatures from the command zone (yes, you still pay commander tax) is a pretty sweet deal to keep getting that neat ability.
Our colour identity doesn't afford us a whole slew of Mutate creatures that fit the deck's combo/value theme, so we have to get in just what we need to play. Vulpakeet mutated on to a creature with our commander mutated on top nets two +1+1 counters, making Vadrok hit in the air for eight commander damage. Dreamtail Heron advances out hand when it mutates by drawing us a card and also has flying. Sea-Dasher Octopus has flash, so we can either mutate it in on our opponent's end step or during combat, I suggest onto a flier to get full use of the “when it deal combat damage to a play, draw a card” text. Pouncing Shark doo do do do do doo.....Sorry, I had to. Shark boy also has Flash and bounces a creature, making it more likely you can push through commander damage. Last but certainly not least is Lore Drakkis and it's able to return ANY instant or sorcery from your discard pile to your hand and we have around 24 choices for that.

Wheel of Fortune
What is any combo deck with out card draw and tutors? Both are essential to assembling a combo and usually both are also needed to dig in and find what you need. Fortunately for us, we are playing a few wheels to get us going and we can get those back at a later time for the combo anyway, provided our discard pile doesn't get removed.
But first, what is this gross deadly combo I keep ranting about? Smothering Tithe plus Underworld Breach plus any wheel Wheel of Fortune/Winds of Change/Windfall and to a lesser extent, Collective Defiance. It works like this: Cast wheel, discard hand and draw cards. Each opponent draws cards, meaning that you create a treasure from Smothering Tithe for each card they draw unless they pay the two mana for each. You then play (Underworld Breach) giving each card in your discard pile Escape > cost CMC plus remove x cards =CMC.
Laboratory Maniac
So Wheel of Fortune will cost you three mana and removal of three cards from your discard pile, generate treasures, wash repeat. This means we are free to either play our Laboratory Maniac and draw out to win, (Niv-Mizzet Parun) to speed draw extra cards and deal 1 damage every time you draw, Psychosis Crawler to kill the table for each card you draw dealing one damage, Blind Obedience for Extort to keep us dealing damage and keep us alive, The Locust God to create a small army of hasted 1/1 insects to kill the table or we ARE playing white, so you know that means Approach of the Second Sun.
Back on to tutors, Mystical Tutor can go fetch a counterspell at first to ensure your combo goes through and then can start fetching your Wheel of Fortune, Gamble can fetch ANY card, but you run the risk of discarding it so Underworld Breach is still a fine target thanks to Vadrok, Apex of Thunder, Idyllic Tutor can fetch us any enchantment and most likely Smothering Tithe as soon as possible along with Enlightened Tutor.

Talrand, Sky Summoner
We don't need a whole lot of creatures in the deck and though you may be thinking “but you need those for Mutate!”, we sort of don't. We have token generators for this and they all work off stuff our deck already does. The Locust God works off us drawing cards, Kykar, Wind's Fury works off any non-creature spells we cast, and Talrand, Sky Summoner works off our instant and sorceries we cast. We also run a few other creatures for specific effects, Glen Elendra Archmage can counter a non-creature spell, Windborn Muse can provide a Propaganda effect and stop opponents from attacking us with swarms of creatures, Bedlam Reveler can dig us deeper into the deck and is usually played at a hefty discount and Geist of Saint Traft is Hexproof and a perfect Mutate target.
Supreme Verdict
As someone whom isn't partial to wiping the board to keep the wolves at bay, we do have a small amount of wipes and protection. Back in my Mutate article The Commander Files - Mutate, I talked a lot about minimising the risk to a mutate stack and while we don't care as much here, our best board wipe is Time Wipe so we can return our stack to our hand and Cyclonic Rift so we can just push through any damage we need to. Supreme Verdict is obviously just the best board wipe ever designed due to it's relatively low mana cost and it can't be countered, sorry “NO” aficionados.
Our targeted removal is the usual suite of Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile, Crib Swap and Generous Gift. If you don't have any copies of Generous Gift, then I have to ask WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? Because it's the catch all when it comes to destroying any permanent, especially a rival Commander at instant speed.
