Decktech

Some cards that I did not mention in the decktech that I am not playing, I will mention below and give my thoughts on them.

Goblin Matron – I used to play this card, it was much more powerful when the format was so rampant with aggro decks and combo decks. Now it’s just too slow and just not good enough.  Getting multiple Goblin Bushwhacker’s against the control decks, or searching up Tarfire against some of the other aggro decks was really good, but sadly that just isn’t good enough right now.

Song of Blood – Back in the day, this used to be the big card that people played against some of the control decks and the combo decks to race them. The control decks we have now just have to much cheap removal or the counters are just too cheap and losing 4 cards is just bad card advantage. It’s also not the best option against storm because the storm decks are just too fast these days. So you just have to deal with them.

Seismic Shudder – I talked about this card in the beginning of my second match, but I will be a little more in depth about it here. I like this card a lot, but not for this deck because killing your own creatures isn’t that good and good storm players, from what I have seen recently, have no problem taking out the Empty The Warrens kill and just go with grapeshot and win that way. Or they will bring in Duress and then the plan will be flawed. I just don’t like it all that much.

Raze – I don’t see Cloudpost control or Esper combo that much anymore, so I just took it out. Even when I had it, it still didn’t help me win all that much against either deck.  So I just stopped playing it. Personally I think Pyroblast is much better against Esper control. Against Cloudpost, I’m not to sure.

Match 1

Match 2

Match 3

The deck turned out great against the 3 blue decks that I faced. I also, finally have a little confidence against the IzzetPost match. Like I said, Mudbrawler Cohort was really good and the Jackal Familiar still continued to pull its weight in the deck. I don’t think my list is the best by far, but I think it has some things that you guys should try on your own.

I was going to bring you my updated list of Mono Black Control for this testing session, as I said in the decktech. But I decided Goblins was probably the better choice to cover this time. I had a blast playing it again and it brought back really good memories.

If you have any requests for a deck you would like me to play. Please let me know and I will see what I can do. Again thank you for watching and I’ll see you guys next time!

I've only had a chance to check out the first match so far but I just wanted to chip in on the Burn matchup. The only card I've seen Goblins play that really helps there is maybe 1 or 2 Sylvok Lifestaff in the sideboard. Anyways, that's all I've got for now keep up the good work on the videos.

Seems like a good idea. by Mikey K159 at Thu, 11/10/2011 - 13:55

Sylvok lifestaff seems like a good idea. The problem is martyr of ashes... That card is a pain.

Hey Mike,
I'm a loyal Pauper to the People listener and have really appreciated the tech you've brought to the podcast. I'm the new goblin player Chris tried to convince you wasn't a Mikey K hater. Anyways, great videos and good play tips. I've been thinking of throwing Goblin Gaveleer in along with an equipment package, Bonesplitter along with the previously mentioned Sylvok Lifestaff. Seems good if it connects, but it complicates the draw. There are times you want to draw a burn spell instead of a piece of equipment. Any thoughts?
