  Pack 1 pick 1:

Wurmcoil and Batterskull are not only the best cards in the pack but they're also colorless which keeps me open. Both have their upsides but when in doubt it's better to take the card that costs less.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 2:

Now it's between Courser and Cryptic. Both cards go into decks where I'd want Batterskull (while Chain Lightning doesn't fit as well as those two). There are also some good lands but this early and with these 2 cards in the pack they don't really interest me. I think Cryptic is the better card and that's what I took.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 3:

Dungeon Geists is fine but Forbid is really good and can almost lock some games.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 4:

A much worse pack. Merfolk Looter is the only blue card and that doesn't interest me. There are some decent colored cards but nothing strong that would make me want to move into another color. I guess Finks is the colored card I'd most likely play but with Basalt Monolith in the pack I just want to take that and maybe do something powerful with it.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 5:

I'm not the biggest fan of Daze but none of the other cards interest me so that's what I took.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 6:

There's Impulse in the pack but Ashiok has impressed me very much in Cube and it's an easy splash.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 7:

Ajani Vengeant is great but it's RW and right now I'm Blue with Ashiok. There's nothing else I want here so I don't lose anything and maybe I can play it.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 8:

Here there are two possibilities: be safe and take Consuming Vapors or be greedy and take Nicol Bolas. I usually go for the safe pick but when it's a card I really like playing with I go with greedy and Nicol Bolas is one of them. At this point I expect to play blue as the main color, with some black cards and splashing red.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 9:

Sakashima's Student is basically a Clone but that's often pretty decent in Cube. I don't really expect to play Ajani at this point so Godless Shrine doesn't make much sense.

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 10:

I know I said I don't expect to play Ajani in the previews pick but there's always the possibility I see several good white cards in the next pack and I end up in UWr so here it makes sense to take Sacred Foundry. I don't want Talrand or Servitude anyway so it's a free pick.

  Pack 1 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 1:

Wrath of God is a card that makes me want to go UWr instead but Mulldrifter is really good as well and it's blue.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 2:

I have played Keiga but it has rarely been great. I think here taking the black removal does much more for me.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 3:

Strix and Pact are not bad but a blue fetchland makes any future blue duals much better.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 4:

The BR Temple is nice as it helps with Nicol Bolas.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 5:

Having taken two lands in a row I think I needed to take Essence Scatter here.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 6:

City of Brass doesn't do much in a control deck because over the course of the game it just loses you so much life. Ophiomancer is pretty decent. It's like the defensive Rabblemaster.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 7:

I don't like Intuition outside a reanimator deck so it's an easy Badlands.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 8:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 9:

Maybe I should have just taken Psychatog because the odds of me playing Wrath are really low but I also think Psychatog is not very good outside a reanimator deck.

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 10:

  Pack 2 pick 12:

Profane Command and Soul are not worth the double black and Teachings, while slow, can be decent, even if just as a sideboard option against control decks.

  Pack 3 pick 1:

What a pack! Grave Titan and Ancestral Vision would be very good first picks and even Simulacrum I wouldn't mind but I have to take Treachery here.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 2:

I usually like Chalice in control decks but I think I need Remand more.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 3:

Really happy taking Dig here as I need some card drawing.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 4:

Another counterspell over nothing.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 5:

I like Sphere but I think this deck would make it run out of counters while still needing them often enough. Chapel lets me maybe splash Ajani.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 6:

I love Upheaval but it's not very good here. Keranos is another card that has impressed me in Cube and I'm already splashing red.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 7:

I'm not a huge fan of Forbidden Alchemy. White playing slow control decks in Cube I often end up with few cards in my library. Resolving this twice means 8 less cards and that is 1/5 of the deck. There's nothing else here I can possibly play, maybe Taiga because Misty Rainforest can get it but I might need the playable so I took Alchemy,

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 8:

I have been greedy this draft but not greedy enough to take Garruk here. Shadowmage Infiltrator is a good card anyway and I'm happy taking it this late. It works very well with Forbid.

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 9:

This is a card I wouldn't be sad taking first pick and there were only two cards I wanted more in the pack so I'm pretty happy with this.

Here's the deck I submitted:

I was pretty happy with my deck, I would just like to have one or two blue duals so I could make use of the Misty Rainforest but sometimes that happens.

M1G1:

We both played nothing until his fourth turn when he tried to resolve Graveborn Muse but I Dazed it. I could have Dissolved it to scry and help me find a land but Dissolve is good the whole game while Daze isn't. I did miss a land drop and when he Hymn to Tourach I Dissolved and sent Dungeon Geists to the bottom. I found a land and passed. He played Liliana of the Veil and I Forbid without buyback because if he had a counterspell of his own that would destroy me. I drew Mulldrifter and passed. This time he passed without playing anything and I used Teachings to get Cryptic at his end step. I drew Badlands and had now access to all my colors. He passed again and so did I after drawing a Swamp and playing it. He played Think Twice at the end of my turn and I flashbacked Teachings to get Dig at his. I played Ophiomancer and he killed it with Hero's Downfall and also flashbacks Think Twice. I tapped out for Dig at his end step but he had Miscalculation. I drew a land so now I could play Ajani with Cryptic mana up and it resolved. I locked his only blue source and passed. He used Reanimate on his Muse and I played Keranos and killed the Muse with Ajani. Keranos dealt 3 to him and I played Mulldrifter. He had Chainer's Edict for that but took 3 from Keranos again. I passed and he probably realized he couldn't deal with Keranos so he would eventually lose to it and conceded.

M1G2:

He played Think Twice on turn 2 and 3 and I Forbid his turn 4 Hymn. The following turn he had Liliana and it resolves. He discarded a land while I discarded Dungeon Geists. I used Teachings to get Daze at his end step because it's the only counterspell I can keep up the following turn if I play Ashiok. He played Sneak Attack and it resolved. He upped Liliana again discarding Downfall and at this point Daze is pretty bad so I discarded it. However he didn't activate Sneak Attack and simply passed. I evoked Mulldrifter and kept Go for the Throat mana open. He activated Sneak Attack and had Ulamog so I had to take the hit. I tapped my 2 Islands for mana in response to Umalog's trigger and let it resolve. After that I played Dig getting 2 Islands and sending lands, Nicol Bolas and Essence Scatter to the bottom. He put Liliana to 6 discarding another land while I discarded Student. I played a land and passed. He activated Sneak Attack again and this time it was Kozilek. That one I could kill with Go for the Throat before it attacked. Even though I had Ashiok on 9 counters with a Griselbrand exiled he didn't ultimate Liliana and instead upped again discarding Chainer's Edict while I discarded Keranos. I opted to up Ashiok once more instead of putting Griselbrand into play and I'm not sure that was correct. He ultimated Liliana on his turn and put Ashiok with Badlands and 3 Islands on the other pile. I kept Ashiok and Badlands and he passed the turn. This was a very easy choice, I think he should have put Ashiok alone and maybe it would still have been correct to keep Ashiok. This time I put Griselbrand into play and now it's perfect because he can't -2 Liliana. He played the land he drew and upped Liliana. In response I drew 7. He flashbacked Edict but Remand was the perfect answer for that. I took care of Liliana by attacking her and I could keep Dissolve up but with Sneak Attack in play I opted to play Baleful Strix. He drew Downfall for Griselbrand but at this point I was in a very good position because I could win with Ashiok and I had counterspells in hand and even Cryptic Command to possibly tap and Eldrazi or bounce his Sneak Attack if he does nothing. He Sneaked Sundering Titan into play and since he had only one Mountain I bounced his Sneak Attack with Cryptic. He attacked and I blocked and I was left with just one land but he didn't have red anymore. I passed my turn and he conceded after drawing for his turn.

This was an insane game! I don't think I could have won if he had attacked Ashiok with Ulamog when he had the chance.

M2G1:

He played Elvish Mystic into Yavimaya Elder. On turn 3 he played Birthing Pod and I Remanded it. I had no more counterspells and since he had no problem playing it into open mana, he would most likely do it again so I played Ophiomancer. He played Pod turning Elder into Redcap to kill my Ophiomancer. I played Student as a Redcap and killed his elf. He used Pod to get Deranged Hermit and killed my Snake token. I played a land and passed. He paid the Echo and turned Hermit into Grave Titan. I stole his Titan with Treachery and played Simulacrum. He played Fauna Shaman, Sylvan Caryatid and Skinrender to make the Titan a 3/3. I attacked with Titan and he traded for Skinrender. I played Ajani and killed Fauna Shaman. He played Thoughtseize taking Nicol Bolas and activated Pod sacrificing Caryatid to get Eternal Witness getting back his Titan. He played the Titan with one mana open but I decided to Daze so I would have an extra card in the graveyard to Dig on that turn. I got Batterskull and Keranos over Forbid, Essence Scatter and some lands. After this he attacked with his zombie tokens and I blocked with Simulacrum and Student. Student came back from Persist and I copied his titan. I attacked with my Titan and he traded for several creatures. I locked Pod with Ajani and played Batterskull. He attacked with everything and in the end I was left with 3 zombie tokens against 2 but I had a Batterskull as well. I drew Cryptic and still locking Pod I passed the turn. He played Thran Dynamo and conceded.

M2G2:

He started with Elves of Deep Shadow and followed it up with Thoughtseize taking Ophiomancer over Forbid, Teachings and Keranos. For several turns he was simply attacking with Elves and on turn 4 I used Teachings to get Remand because I still only had two blue mana. He finally decided to play Whip of Erebos and I Remanded because even though he had more than 4 mana left, he only had one more black mana and had already played a land. The following turn he started with Whip again and I Forbid it discarding Daze and Student. After that he played Pod and it resolved because I only had one blue mana left and Essence Scatter can't counter Pod. He attacked and turned his elf into Sylvan Caryatid. I drew Cryptic Command and passed. He turned Caryatid into Eternal Witness and got back Thoughtseize which resolved and took my Nicol Bolas. At his end step I bounced his Pod. I drew Ashiok so I played it. He attacked it and passed. I activated again and passed and he played Yavimaya Elder which I used Essence Scatter. He attacked Ashiok again and after that he played Massacre Wurm. I flashbacked Teachings to get Dissolve and on my turn killed his Wurm with Go for the Throat. I put Overgrown Battlement into play with Ashiok and passed. He played Wood Elves and passed. I kept activating Ashiok while he attacked it for one. I played Batterskull but he had Krosan Grip. I always kept counter mana up and eventually he conceded.

M3G1:

He had a turn 2 Firefist Striker and his next play was Koth which I Dissolved. I left Ajani on top even though I still needed either a red or white source but I thought the upside of resolving Ajani in the match up was enough to take the risk of not getting to cast it. He attacked and didn't play anything so I used Teachings to get Cryptic. He attacked and Firebolted me and at his end step I bounced his creature. On his following turn he played his creature again and I Forbid it with buyback. He played Searing Spear on my end step which I Forbid with buyback again and after that resolving, he played Stoke the Flames. The fact that he let Forbid resolve made me think he was using it as bait so I let it resolve. He played Firedrinker Satyr and flashbacked Firebolt putting me to 4 and passed. I drew Daze and passed and he played Chandra's Phoenix which I Forbid without buyback. He attacked and pumped and I killed it with Go for the Throat. I finally drew a way to cast Ajani and I used -2 on him just to gain 3 life. I upped Ajani and passed again and he played Zealous Conscripts. I flashbacked Teachings to get Essence Scatter and countered it. He had Goblin Guide as well and finished Ajani. I drew Treachery and used it on Goblin Guide but that just allowed him to use Searing Blaze and get back his Phoenix. He played it and put me to 2 life and won the game with Incinerate.

M3G2:

He suspended Greater Gargadon and played Chandra's Phoenix which I Remanded. On turn 4 he played Phoenix again and Stromkirk Noble which I Forbid. I played Batterskull and passed. He played Firedrinker Satyr and attacked with Phoenix. After combat he sacrificed the Phoenix, use Chain Lightning on me and replayed the Phoenix. I attacked and he blocked with Satyr but he probably misclicked and didn't sacrifice it to Gargadon. He passed his turn and I played Dungeon Geists tapping his Phoenix. I attacked with Batterskull and he tapped some lands and sacrificed them as well as Phoenix to play Gargadon I had Go for the Throat and he paid 6 mana to kill my Germ but he conceded on his turn.

M3G3:

He started with Noble and I killed it after taking one hit. He played Hammer of Purphoros and passed. I played Baleful Strix. He played Firefist Striker and attacked. I blocked and he passed without playing a land. I played Simulacrum and passed. He had no play. I drew Teachings so I attacked and passed. He played Guttersnipe but I used Teachings to get Daze and countered it. I passed once again and he played Young Pyromancer and attacked. I flashbacked Teachings to get Cryptic and on my turn I attacked and played Student as another Simulacrum. He drew a land and killed it with Searing Blaze and attacked me down to 11. I attacked and played Gray Merchant. He played Flametongue Kavu but I had Essence Scatter. I attacked with Simulacrum and played Ashiok. He played Madcap Skills on his token but I bounced the token with Cryptic. I used Ashiok to put his Phoenix into play and attacked him down to 2. After combat I played Batterskull and passed. He played Skull crack to put me to 10 life and when I countered his Hellrider he conceded.

I managed to 3-0 with this sweet control deck beating monored in the finals, which is always a though match up. I hope you enjoyed this.
