Draft

The draft started off well. I opened up a Falkenrath Marauder and quickly wanted to go red. I played on the beta for Innistrad and whenever I had a Marauder in my deck, it was nothing short of awesome. After pack 1, I didn't have as much removal as I would have liked and the packs didn't offer up that many good creatures to take either. The next pack I figured since I liked my first rare, I would just open it again and in the third pack opening up Reaper of the Abyss made me happy, but not as happy as it made me too get passed a 3rd Marauder. Before anyone says it, yes it must be and was very nice to have 3 Marauders in my deck.

I would like comments on the Geist-Honored Monk pick in pack 1, as I am still unsure if it was correct to pick it. But again, I love white in this set so I figured it was okay to pick it. I would also like comments on the Cruse card I had, as you will see in the draft, I thought about taking it out almost every time I went to sideboarding.

Round 1

These games were kind of weird. Whenever I thought I was going to lose, I made a come back. Marauder was just as good as I thought he was going to be and Skirsdag Cultist was just a house. Without the Cultist, I don't think I would have even had a chance of winning game 1. I will admit, seeing that my opponent was U/W scared the hell out of me because its such a dangerous archetype. Luckily for me, his deck wasn't to impressive and Dead Weight was a key card as you saw in game 3, as was Tribute to Hunger for the Geist.

Round 2

In game 1, curving out with Walking Corpse and the Riot Devils was very key, as my opponent was a slow control deck. Marauder was the MVP in the first game because of the Juggernaut and I don't really have any removal for the 5/5 fatty besides Tribute to Hunger and Victim of the Night. Racing the Juggernaut with some small creatures did not look like a good plan to me, so it was lucky I drew a Victim of The Night, but Marauder just made it irrelevant, as he just won the game on his own. Game 2 wasn't really a game as he was mana screwed for a bit and I was just too far ahead for him to come back.

The Pyroclasm card from my opponent didn't even scare me. I don't think its that good either, there are so many X/3's in this set and so many good flyers that it just doesn't ever do enough. Yes its cool that it has flashback, but that only makes it so worth playing.

Round 3

Now this round was a close one. This guy had a good deck, a good portion of removal and much more. Luckily for me, Reaper of the Abyss is a house and in game 3 it really shows as i just road him to victory. My opponents deck this round showed why Tribute is not the best removal spell to rely on in this set. There is just so many ways to make tokens to play around it, especially in white, which I believe is the best color right now.

So that was the draft and I had a lot of fun. I did another draft on saturday with another friend that I wasn't recording and lost the first round to an Invisible Stalker with a Butcher's Cleaver both games. Needless to say, I was very angry, upset and very sour by the turn of events. When is the next time I will draft this set? I'm not totally sure on that, but look for some pauper videos from me soon and Ill see you guys later!

I mean, what is there to comment about w/re: Geist Honored Monk? It's a great rare, miles ahead of any common, and is absolutely the pick there. Don't overthink it.

Also, in many red decks Harvest Pyre is close enough to Dead Weight that it was at least considering it to stay open - although obviously your first pick pushes you slightly toward R/B Vampires, it's fine on its own and unlike the ground-pounder vampires it doesn't much benefit from the enablers (who needs +2/+0 and first strike, or an additional counter, when you're smashing with a 6/6 and growing flier?). Dead Weight is definitely better, but there's definitely a conversation to be had in this specific instance.

Most glaring error: p2p5: Galvanic Juggernaut is a legitimate card, especially when you have two Cultists. Devils is awful.

Also, Monk is absolutely the pick, no question.

At the time I will honestly say, I did not like him all that much. Since then I've grown to see how good he is.
