Hour of Devastation is online! Usually, I would say it's 'finally' online, but thanks to the new release schedule, it's up on MTGO mere hours after the last paper prerelease event fired. That's how it was in Amonkhet, that's how it is on Hour of Devastation, and that's how things are going to be for the foreseeable future - and for that the Magic Online team deserves a whole lot of praise.
Amonkhet was a set I thoroughly enjoyed, after getting ultimately disappointed by a disproportionately aggressive limited format in Kaladesh. I do know that aggressive strategies are still especially effective on the new block, but, in my opinion, this doesn't happen in a ridiculously oppressive way, and there are plenty of strategies worth a try other than all-in aggro. Hour of Devastation seems to continue this trend, offering plenty of options for players to get creative.
On the other hand, after saying all of that, I will add that white-red aggro is still a ridiculously effective archetype to be in. That's what I bring you today.
As enticing as red-based aggro is, my initial impression is that there are a lot of strategies worth a try, and that's what I plan to bring you in the next weeks. Until then, I hope you enjoyed this, and see you soon.
