Hello everyone as you all know im not much of a Standard player, I haven't played standard since Time Spiral was in the rotation and still I didn't play much of it.  Wanting to explore the Standard Metagame for a bit, I quickly looked over some decks and picked out one I liked which was White Weenie.  I like that it's fast and deadly with the right hand and wanted to test it out so here is the decklist I came up with.

This is a decent build I didn't get a chance to buy Path to Exile or Martial Coup to add in the deck.  And I added in two Mirrorweaves for deadly combat tricks.  The rest of the deck is self explanitory so I will get on with the Tournament Report.

Bolov0 (GB Elves)

I started off decent with Goldmeadow Stalwart and Wizened Cenn and began with some quick jabs to the jaw.  He sets up camp with Chameleon Colossus and a Troll Ascetic and shuts my offence down cold. A few turns later he brings out Garruk Wildspeaker and a Shriekmaw and he begins his furry of punches.  Still holding on my own I begin to gain some ground with Glorious Anthem and Cloudgoat Ranger helping me regain my footing, untill he KO's me with a Profane Command sending me down to the canvas.

-4 Burrenton Forge-Tender, -1 Goldmeadow Stalwart
+3 Reveillark, +2 Wrath of God

I started off aggresive with a Knight of Meadowgrain and two Cenns giving him a left jab and a right hook to the grill.  He countered with a evoked Shriekmaw and a Chameleon Colossus again!  I quickly had to go on the defence and started to dodge his flurry of attacks.  Till he got mad and began to go all Mike Tyson on me with a Cloudthresher and thwe lethal Profane Command.

Evincar_onn (Mono Red)

I brought the heat to him quick with a Burrenton Forge-Tender and a Wizened Cenn leading my quick beats, his early Figure of Destiny couldn't stop the masacare.  He kept trying to stall a little but I kept up bringing down a Glorious Anthem and another Burrenton Forge-Tender and Unmakeing a few of his critters by the time he got a little footing it was to late my unblockable Burrenton's showed him the door!

-1 Cloudgoat Ranger -1 Goldmeadow Stalwart
+2 Reveillark

I began my beats with the early forge-tender again but this time around I brought a crew of three spirits to the party with Spectral Procession he tried to buy himself as much time as possible by burning the spirits.  I dropped a anthem to boost my creatures morale and continued with the beats forcing him to try and outrace me.  I was slowing turning up the fire until I drew another Spectral Procession and quickly made him burnt toast.

too_easy (R/W Lark)

We both started off strong by playing creatures, he got the huge advantage by sacrificing a Fulminator Mage destroying my Windbrisk Heights.  Then landing a Lark for Recursion, stuck with a few lands I drew into another Windbrisk Heights which he destroyed and overran me with his massive creatures.

-4 Wizened Cenn -1 Unmake
+3 Wrath of God +2 (Relic of Progenitous)

This game was horrible he ended up setting camp with his heavy artillery two Figure of Destinys against my weak Goldmeadow Stalwart and Knight of Meadowgrain which he made shiskabobs with two Magma Sprays leaving me defenseless, I folded faster than a cheap chair at a bingo hall.

babones (WB Tokens)

I tried to bring the furry with a Goldmeadow Stalwart and a Wizened Cenn but was quickly stopped by a Figure of Destiny and a Knight of Meadowgrain, no matter how many fake jabs I tried to throw to find a opening nothing worked his defence was incredible, he eventually gased me out and played two back to back Spectral Processions flying over my defence dropping Mui Thai Elbows to my dome.  He added more hurt to his punches with a Glorious Anthem, all I remember before passing out was his army waving the flag of victory

-4 Burrenton Forge-Tender -1 Unmake
+3 Wrath of God +2 Reveillark

I started off horrible mulliganed down to 5 and still had a 1 land hand, I played the land and passed the turn he plays a the big dog Figure of Destiny with support a Spectral Procession.  Due to mana screw I got chewed up and spit out in the worse way.

Game Results: 2-6
Match Results: 1-3

I ended up with a Bye the fifth round which ended my first standard tournament.  Before this match lost I had good TB points that gave me a small chance on making top 8 if I went 3-2 but since im now 1-3, I have no chance of top 8.  Usally I would drop once I lose two matches but since im writing this article to show the decks I went up against and how the WW deck performed this event I played up to round four.   Later on I plan to join another event with the same deck and see if it places higher with a different metagame scene or try another deck build.

WW is decent and it does have potiental, deck still might need a few tweaks and now with the new conflux cards coming out I can change some stuff to make it run much faster hopefully.  Untill next time folks, Good Luck and Have fun!

The only white weenie deck to defeat my deck gb elves is one that included ajani golmane for more overrun effect so that is a good choice

thanks for the advice by Salgy at Sun, 03/08/2009 - 17:02

thank you Yi60 for the advice, to be honest i was really debating which one to chose the planewalker or the enchantment as you see i opted for the enchant and did horrible. I will try and run it with some Ajani and hopefully i will do better

Ajani & Anthem both by Felorin at Mon, 03/09/2009 - 02:51

With both Spectral Procession & Cloudgoat Ranger in there, there's no reason not to run Glorious Anthem AND Ajani in the deck. I believe Luis Scott Vargas had them both in his deck that came in 2nd at the last Pro Tour a week ago. Can't argue with the former national champ saying they're good, right?

I agree felorin i should of went with that build. But for some reason I added in the mirrorweaves because I was expecting on running against a bunch of lords/lieges. But I will add in the Ajanis and keep the list simple thx for the advice

Why are you so high on Martial Coup for this deck? Are you really expecting to reliably get to 7 mana?

thanx for the props i wrote this for article purposes, if i have to take a 1-3 for the purpose of writing one then i will.

Tumultuous the thing with coup is that it can work as a WOG effect for 7 mana but if you have glorious anthems in play a martial coup for 3-4 is just as good combined with mirrorweave can be just as deadly
