State of the Program for April 26th, 2023
MTGO Socials: Daybreak has set up forums for MTGO, which you can find here. In addition to the Forums, Daybreak has set up a Discord for MTGO. You can get the invite here. MTGO has a Twitter account, and can now add an account for Facebook and Instagram.
Redemption: Redemption is up and running! Remember that redemption runs now until supply is gone. Currently being redeemed are Dominaria United (Both Less Than 10%) and The Brothers' War (About Half-Gone). Phyrexia: All Will Be One's redemption period has started, and March of the Machine will start on May 17.
Challenge Schedule Changing: Two Prelims on Friday nights are now becoming small Challenge events. This helps players in the Asia-Pacific region. Saturday is also getting another Modern Challenge. Both of these are 32 player events. The Saturday 6 a.m. Standard Event is going back to a small event prize structure.
Patch Notes: You can check out the notes for this update here.
This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the
calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Magic Online Format Challenges
These are high stakes events that happen every weekend. They cost 30 Tix / 300 play points, and last a number of rounds based on participation (assume 5-8), plus a single elimination Top 8. Details, including prize payouts, are
here. Start times are:
Standard: If I can showcase a 7-0 Superfriends deck from Arena instead of a real deck, I am going to show that deck off! I think
Ichormoon Gauntlet
has a lot of promise, and it's really just a cool card!
Legacy:
Faerie Mastermind
seems to be the next in a series of problem cards that Blue based tempo and midrange decks present to the format. Ledger Shredder is livid now. Actually I do not know if it is or not, it is just cardboard!
Modern: Featuring
Wrenn and Realmbreaker
from the new set, the three drop walker fixes the mana of the deck, which is great because
Indomitable Creativity
cost XRRR and sometimes that third Red source is hard to get! Wrenn and Realmbreaker also gives you a creature to target with the sorcery!
Pauper:
Wrenn's Resolve
is the new tech in this deck, and that's not really fair, because it's just a functional reprint of
Reckless Impulse
, but it's there and impacting the format, giving the red deck more cards for the Prowess creatures!
Pioneer:
Saiba Cryptomancer
is the hot new card in this deck. The flash creature with Backup saves a creature from removal, and if that creature is
Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice
it saves your engine as well!
The Winner's Circle is where I will recognize winners of the past events on MTGO.

Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at
MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at
MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.
Standard Staples:
Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor
came off the list.

Modern Staples: Nothing new happened this week!
Eternal Staples:
Entomb
and
Powder Keg
were both added to the list. We also got a couple of cards from Baldur's Gate on to the list this week.
Pioneer Staples: Two lands from Forgotten Realms are back on the list.
Witherbloom Commander
is also off the list.
Standard Legal Sets: This table tracks the cost of a single copy of every card in each Standard legal set, plus Treasure Chests and the current booster pack. I’ll keep tracking these because they are interesting (at least to me). This is being kept as a small tribute to Pete!

The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO. The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.
I turned 43 yesterday. It's really not that much different from 42, and I imagine it won't be much different from 44. It was nice to be remembered though!
I finished Chained Echoes on Monday. Game is great and holds up well to SNES or Genesis Classics. Even the cringy writing! Also played a lot of Commander this week!
This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
