State of the Program for December 3rd, 2021
Unfinity: The newest silver bordered set, set for April 1st, 2022, isn't going to be silver bordered! The Retro Science Fiction Circus and Carnival set will be black borded, have collectors boostes and feature two different holograms. One, the standard hologram will tell the play that the card is legal in Eternal formats, the acorn hologram tells players that is it not legal in Eternal formats. If it doesn't have a security hologram, at lower rarities, it is Eternal legal. There is a showcase treatment, two different versions of basic lands, and borderless shocklands! No mention of these cards coming to MTGO, but I imagine treasure chests will be getting Saw in Half in time!
You can read the full document here.

Crimson Vow Set Survey: Market Points is doing a survey for Wizards of the Coast for Crimson Vow. You can find it here.
Super Qualifier: There is a Crimson Vow Limited Super Qualifier on Friday.
Showcase Challenges: Saturday is a Pauper Showcase challenge and Sunday is a Legacy Showcase challenge.
This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the
calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Magic Online Format Challenges
These are high stakes events that happen every weekend. They cost 30 Tix / 300 play points, and last a number of rounds based on participation (assume 5-8), plus a single elimination Top 8. Details, including prize payouts, are
here. Start times are:
Standard: This looks like one of the coolest Standard decks in some time!
Historic: One of my friends said that Standard wouldn't be worth playing because of all the extra turn cards. Turns out they must of meant Historic?
Legacy: It's nice to see a deck without Ragavan in it thriving.
Modern: I hadn't seen a
Goblin Bombardment
deck come to Modern since Modern Horizons 2 was released. I am sure I missed them and that they have been reported in the past, but I'll try to make up for that today.
Pauper: I am finishing up the Izzet version of this is paper now, and I know Pauper is good when you can cast a
Kiln Fiend
.
Pioneer: Feather coming back to Pioneer is great. I think there is room for more than one
Dreadhorde Arcanist
build in the format, and so far it's been dominated by Rakdos. Heck there might even be an Izzet build!
Vintage:
The Winner's Circle is where I will recognize winners of the past events on MTGO.

Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at
MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at
MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.
Standard Staples: A couple of cards from Crimson Vow came off the list, but that was because they were the special art versions. The borderless
Sorin the Mirthless
for example was listed.
Toxrill, the Corrosive
was the other one. A lot of new cards were added to the list this week.

Modern Staples: Worldwake gets some cards on the list again and
Esper Sentinel
hangs out a bit as well!
Eternal Staples:
Pioneer Staples:
Bonecrusher Giant
came off the list this week.
Kaya, Orzhov Usurper
also came off the list.
Finale of Devastation
is on the sidelines again as well.
Mana Confluence
is back for a bit as well.
Pauper Staples: It's been a while since I last looked at prices in the Pauper format. Let's see how things have changed in the time. It turns out a lot has! Commander Legends had an impact on this list. Bannings have as well.
Standard Legal Sets: This table tracks the cost of a single copy of every card in each Standard legal set, plus Treasure Chests and the current booster pack. I’ll keep tracking these because they are interesting (at least to me). This is being kept as a small tribute to Pete!

The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO. The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.
Nevermind, ignore all of that, Pete got it done for me, because he is just the dang best. The big number this week is $26,015. Last time on November 19th, this number was $26,756. This is a 741 dollar drop in two weeks.
Has been amazing day after amazing day since last Wednesday. Just doing the stuff that I like has been great. Getting ready for the end of season event on Fortnite with my son and nephew tomorrow. I feel like they are getting really close to doing high school things and time for their dad and uncle s going to be limited. I am sad, but just so proud of who they are growing up to be.
This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
