State of the Program for February 11th, 2022
Year of the Tiger Promos: Like last year, Asia Pacific players are going to be getting some neat year themed cards. As this year is the Year of the Tiger, there will be four. with each one tied to a different set. Starting with Neon Dynasty, players will get a promo Temur Sabertooth
, and each set will continue this for the year. Highlights include a full art textless Jedit Ojanen
and Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow
. Check out the full list and info here!
Magic Online Players Rewards: The program has changed. Instead of offering promo cards in the packs, Wizards of the Coast has removed them and replaced them with special basic lands, some of which have never been on the client before! This might be a sign of programs like the ongoing Black is Magic will support playing on the client (which the current MOPR does not do well, as it only rewards sanctioned play, while the Black is Magic supports all forms of play on the client). It may not be a sign as well. Just remember, the next time you open these you're getting lands!
Treasure Chests: Rewards have been revamped, the drop rate on many cards has been increased and have added 44 new cards from the Commander sets with this sets update.
This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the
calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Magic Online Format Challenges
These are high stakes events that happen every weekend. They cost 30 Tix / 300 play points, and last a number of rounds based on participation (assume 5-8), plus a single elimination Top 8. Details, including prize payouts, are
here. Start times are:
This week is exciting because Neon Dynasty is on MTGO! We're going to be looking at decks featuring the new cards that just came out yesterday though. I'll wait until next week, after a weekend full of challenges for that! This week though we say goodbye to the Crimson Vow formats, even though they are not changing and just adding Neon Dynasty to the card pool.
Standard: I wonder if the dragon deck is going to continue it's domination of Standard.
Historic: Didn't have anything for Historic this week but I do think I will stop covering the format here in the article as well. It doesn't make sense for an article covering MTGO to cover MTGA things.
Legacy: This is a more aggro build of Doomsday and I love it!
Modern: Tjhis one of those decks that I fell in love with and know I will never actually get a chance to play it. Ragavan is way to expensive for me still.
Pauper:
Pioneer: I think the addition of Lier in this deck is perfect, as I have started to notice a bit more counter magic in the format recently.
A Second Modern List: This looked like a unique Storm based list!
The Winner's Circle is where I will recognize winners of the past events on MTGO.

Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at
MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at
MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.
Standard Staples: Neon Dynasty will be on next week! A couple of news and a lot of subtractions in the list this week.
Modern Staples:
Ranger-Captain of Eos
is back on the list after a long time off of it!

Standard Legal Sets: This table tracks the cost of a single copy of every card in each Standard legal set, plus Treasure Chests and the current booster pack. I’ll keep tracking these because they are interesting (at least to me). This is being kept as a small tribute to Pete!

The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO. The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.
Nevermind, ignore all of that, Pete got it done for me, because he is just the dang best. The big number this week is $31,196. Last week it was $30,198. Looks like a $998 dollar jump, and of course not all of is because of Neon Dynasty or new commander cards.
Prices were done on Thursday.
It was a busy week that saw me working nearly 40 hours so far for my customer service job, and a sad one, because as much as I tried to go get my booster shot, my anxiety beat me this week. I feel like my mental illnesses got a hold of me this week and really made me feel awful. I was so upset about not getting it done on Wednesday. I played a lot of Fortnite when I was not working or beating myself up.
This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
