State of the Program for February 28th, 2020

In the News

International Women's Day Secret Lair: Set to benefit the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, this secret lair from the cards featured, to the people that worked on it, is all about women! Available on March 8th, you can pick up new versions of Sisay, Meren, Oona, Narset and Saskia from the Secret Lair site.  You will get a Saskia sleeve as well for MTG Arena, but again, nothing for MTGO players.  You can check out the info and card pics here

Secret Lair Twitter:  Cementing Secret Lair as a regular product offering, we now have a Twitter account for it.  Go follow it here

UserVoice System Launched:  This program will allow users to post issues that have been encountered.  They will be publicly viewable on the Customer Service page by hitting Report a Bug, which you can see here

Showcase Challenge Weekend:  This weekend regular challenges are replaced (other than Vintage) with Showcase Challenges.  Taking place at the normal time, these MOCS invite people to the Champions Showcase Qualifier.  Information is here.

Magic Online Commander Feedback
:  Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, is using Reddit to gather feedback on the current state of Commander on one of it's digital products, Magic: The Gathering Online.  You can contribute your thoughts here.

The Timeline

This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Cutting Edge Tech
Standard: Dreamhack held a 94 person tournament for Arena during its last event. It was won by Temur Adventures!

Legacy: Legacy seems to be in a weird place with what seems like little support. However if brews like this keep coming, that would be super dope!

Modern: I am 100% to get this wrong, but this is how I see the combo working. You get a Grinding Station into play, follow that up with a zero casting cost artifact and an Underworld Breach. You sac the artifact to the Station, milling yourself, and recast the zero cost artifact thanks to Breach, untapping the Station. You continue this until mill the entire library, and win by casting Thassa's Oracle. I hope I explained that correctly.

Pauper:I mean, I guess it's a Mardu deck, but just counting the one Reaping the Graves seems like a huge stretch.

Pioneer: Looking at Pioneer seems to be looking at Inverter of Truth or Underworld Breach. This fair red deck looks to quickly overwhelm the opponent and win before their combos happen. Ash Zealot plays a crucial role against graveyard decks in the format, dealing three damage each time they cast a spell from the graveyard.

Vintage: Vintage decks, like the opinion section may be the next thing I cut. It is really hard to find neat Vintage decklists each week.

Around the Web

MTGOTraders YouTube:  Did you know that MTGOTraders.com has a YouTube page with videos added Monday, Wednesday and Friday?  Well if not, now you do, and you can find it here

Card Prices
Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.

Standard Staples: Spawn of Mayhem is off the list, Hydroid Krasis may be falling off of it soon.

Modern Staples:  Apparently the best Modern deck to ever come to the format was discovered this week.  At least that is what Twitter, and the price of Grinding Station has told me.  I had to look up the price of it last week, and thankfully I had the data from last week easily available.  A four hundred percent gain is unreal to me.  I put the list in Cutting Edge Tech for those that wanted to see it.  Noble Hierarch is back on the list and because I have last week's data it doesn't look like it ever left. It's been a long time, but Snapcaster Mage is back on the list as well.

The Good Stuff
The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO.  The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.

Nevermind, ignore all of that, Pete got it done for me, because he is just the dang best. The big number this week is $20,815.  Last week it was $20,320.  We've got a gain of $495, which is super neat!

In Closing

This year I decided to get things done around the house.  Plumbing issues, floor and ceiling issues have already been addressed.  No one told me how expensive this would be, but it's okay.

This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
