State of the Program for June 3rd, 2022
From Last Week: Baldur's Gate and MTGO: We are not getting a full release of Battle for Baldur's Gate on MTGO. Due to the transition from Wizards of the Coast to Daybreak Games, the were unable to meet the timeline to get everything on to the client to deliver the full set or a drafting experience. Double Masters 2022, a reprint set, Dominaria United and The Brothers's War are slated to ship on time with all cards at launch. Baldur's Gate cards will be in treasure chests starting on June 15th. It will be a selection of cards. There is currently no plan on getting the full set out, but they are developing one.
This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the
calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Upcoming Events on MTGO
Magic Online Format Challenges
These are high stakes events that happen every weekend. They cost 30 Tix / 300 play points, and last a number of rounds based on participation (assume 5-8), plus a single elimination Top 8. Details, including prize payouts, are
here. Start times are:
Standard: Jaberwocki went and had themselves a weekend, winning both challenges with this deck.
Legacy: This is basically a Jeskai Delver deck that goes wide instead of relying on a
Delver of Secrets
or other typical Izzet creatures to do the heavy lifting.
Modern:
An Offer You Can't Refuse
is such a great addition to the deck. It does what
Swan Song
did but does it just slightly better.
Pauper: It's like Izzet Cyclops but with much better and easier mana.
Pioneer: I swear all the cool decks I see are on Twitter. The person that played this deck said it was soft to
Thing in the Ice
and the Izzet decks in the format, so that might be worth keeping in mind.
The Winner's Circle is where I will recognize winners of the past events on MTGO.

Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at
MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at
MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.
Standard Staples:
Titan of Industry
is new to the list this week.
Modern Staples:
Prismatic Ending
is back on the list after a bit of an abscence.
Eternal Staples: Holding steady until the Baldur's Gate cards are needed for the Legacy and Vintage formats.
Pioneer Staples: A few fell off the week and gosh,
Winota, Joiner of Forces
has had a slow, steady decline right?
Pauper Staples: It's the first Friday of the month, so it's time to look at Pauper staples! A couple of new entries on to the list this month.
Standard Legal Sets: This table tracks the cost of a single copy of every card in each Standard legal set, plus Treasure Chests and the current booster pack. I’ll keep tracking these because they are interesting (at least to me). This is being kept as a small tribute to Pete!

The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO. The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.
Nevermind, ignore all of that, Pete got it done for me, because he is just the dang best. The big number this week is $28,739. Last week it was $28,550. It went up $189!
This week was another busy one in terms of the second job. I've played exactly one game of MTGO this week, and that is not nearly enough Magic. However repricing and adding Baldur's Gate cards for 50 plus hours means it was also more than enough Magic.
This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
