State of the Program for March 25th, 2022
Super Jump!: This is Jumpstart, but exclusive to MTGO! There are 75 20-card packets. You pick one of three, then pick another one out of a different 3 (but they may repeat) and play some best of 1 with your phantom decks! 5 event tickets or 50 play points get you in. It's best of 1 with 15 minute round timers. You can find the full card list here.
All-Access: *This item is from last week.* It's back for a couple of weeks, this time from March 23 to April 6. In addition to this we have a week full of Super Qualifiers! Starting on March 28 and ending on April 1, Modern, Pioneer, Limited and Legacy will get a chance to shine! Read about it here!
This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the
calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Magic Online Format Challenges
These are high stakes events that happen every weekend. They cost 30 Tix / 300 play points, and last a number of rounds based on participation (assume 5-8), plus a single elimination Top 8. Details, including prize payouts, are
here. Start times are:
Standard: Standard is really a lot of fun right now. Things have calmed down and hopefully it can pick up some momentum again.
Modern: This deck was all over my twitter feed this week. Looks like an absolute blast to play!
Pauper: I messed with this after the first rounds of bannings in Pauper. I think it was after the
Atog
ban at the first of the year. It's a little bit out of date, missing
Experimental Synthesizer
which I feel like would be a wonderful inclusion. It's also missing, sadly, some Affinity hate, because the deck has slowed down, but it still feels super powerful.
Pioneer: I have decided that the fall that the different aura decks of the format have seen is less because of the Lurrus ban, and a combination of things.
The Wandering Emperor
exists now.
Boseiju, Who Endures
and
Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire
also both exist, but the biggest threat to these decks may have been
Hidetsugu Consumes All
, which comes in to play for the low price of 3 mana and either destroys your creatures or destroys your auras. Getting rid of all the one casting cost spells was huge!
Instead of Auras now, I am giving them a break and trying out the different
Greasefang, Okiba Boss
decks in the format. I recently played the Abzan, and Esper builds, and will be trying out the Mardu list below soon.
Fable of the Mirror-Breaker
is a heck of a card, and
Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord
is a nice addition to help out against aggro decks.
The Winner's Circle is where I will recognize winners of the past events on MTGO.

Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at
MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at
MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.
Standard Staples: It looks like staples from Forgotten Realms are starting to slide down for the most part. I hope that is true as the creature lands were more expensive than they needed to be.
Modern Staples:
Eternal Staples:
Pioneer Staples:
Standard Legal Sets: This table tracks the cost of a single copy of every card in each Standard legal set, plus Treasure Chests and the current booster pack. I’ll keep tracking these because they are interesting (at least to me). This is being kept as a small tribute to Pete!

The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO. The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.
Nevermind, ignore all of that, Pete got it done for me, because he is just the dang best. The big number this week is $29,538. Last week it was $29,925. A small loss this week of $387.
A new season of Fortnite started on Sunday, which helped blunt the loss Kentucky had as a two seed in the NCAA tournament. It's my favorite time of the year and it was reduced to background noise sadly.
This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
