The Timeline

This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Cutting Edge Tech

Standard: I played some Standard last night, not with this deck, it just looked neat!  I got blown out by the Emergent Ultimatum deck and while I am glad it exists, because it's really cool, I wonder if we could just have a tiny gift and go ahead and rotate Eldraine, Ikoria, and Theros out when the Forgotten Realm set comes out.  It's pretty clear by now that there is a huge power level difference between those three sets and the last three (Zendikar, Kaldheim, and Strixhaven) that it would be nice to let the new cards have a bit more time to be shown off without the old ones.

Historic: This also looks like fun, but I have been unable to open any copies of Time Warp

LegacyElite Spellbinder seems like an elite addition to the deck, even if it is just one copy!

Modern: Last week I showed off a creative deck featuring Indomitable Creativity in a differnt Modern deck, so this week I went with a different one to show you what the card is capable of doing.  Gotta get all the cool stuff out of the system before Counterspell makes it impossible to do!

Pauper:  A lot of decks are in the blowing land up game right now, so let's take it back to one of the original land kill decks in Pauper.

Pioneer:  I'm not sure if the Learn mechanic takes away from what this deck is trying to do, which is land a Possibility Storm then use an Adventure to trade it for an Enter the Infinite and then cast it to put Borborygmos Enraged back on top of your deck and then cast a Stonecoil Serpent to put the Borborygmos in to play, but I imagine the Learn mechanic more than it hurts.

VintageLuminarch Aspirant was not a card I expected to see in Vintage decks in 2021.

Card Prices
Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.

The Good Stuff
The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO.  The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.

Nevermind, ignore all of that, Pete got it done for me, because he is just the dang best. The big number this week is $28,310.  Last time, two weeks ago, it was $28,210.  Up one dollars is just fine!

In Closing

This week was a week that happened, but I am not entirely sure what, if anything, actually happened.  It was just a few days for me sadly.  Played a lot of Pokemon and Commander.  Got upset when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with Magic last night.  I don't know if I want to be competitive again or not.  I like not beating myself up, but I also don't like having nothing to play for.

This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
