State of the Program for September 30th, 2022
Treasure Chests Update: This went live on Wednesday, it looks like 35 cards got a change in drop rate and it does not look like anything new was added to the Chests.
Modern Cube: Carmen Handy and Aaron Sorrells have a look at the newest build of the Modern Cube here. You can see the changes and full card list here.
The Brothers' War: Previews for the set started Thursday, and you can see the card gallery here. Urza and Mishra lead Commander Decks this set. A subset, like Expeditions on the Mystical Archive exists for Artifacts. Lodestone Golem
and Wurmcoil Engine
lead the way so far. The basic lands in the set feature Mechs. Meld also makes a return to the game.
Pioneer Challenger Decks 2022: These are apparently coming to MTGO. The Izzet Phoenix deck looks okay but in paper it has copies of Expressive Iteration
on MTGO those banned cards will be replaced by Pieces of the Puzzle
and Fiery Impulse
. You can see the decklists here.
This is a list of things we have been promised, or we just want to see coming back. Another good source for dates and times is the
calendar and the weekly blog, while the best source for known bugs is the bug blog which appears sporadically on MTGO.com. Not listed, but important: Wizards offers either one or two online MCQs each weekend, with qualifiers for limited MCQs running the days immediately prior to the MCQ.

Standard: Look I am not sure if this is a win trader deck, of it is actually good or not, but it's 20 dollars, looks really fun and features a lot of cool stuff from the newer sets. My mental health has kept me from playing as much, but for 20 dollars I don't think you can really go wrong?

Pauper: I am buidling paper Pauper decks and while this deck is close and has better mana, I am keeping my
Nivix Cyclops
deck together over building this. I just love that beefy boy.
Pioneer: I am working on a paper building project right now, and have 17 Pioneer decks in progress, which sounds like a huge number, but it's really not, considering how cheap Pioneer is in paper, and how cheap it was during the pandemic that is still happening, but we're ignoring now. I saw this decklist, and now have 18 decks I am working on.
The Winner's Circle is where I will recognize winners of the past events on MTGO.

Note: all my prices come from the fine folks at
MTGOTraders.com. These are retail prices, and generally the price of the lowest priced, actively traded version. (Prices for some rare promo versions are not updated when not in stock, so I skip those.) You can get these cards at
MTGOTraders.com web store, or from their bots: MTGOTradersBot(#) (they have bots 1-10), CardCaddy and CardWareHouse, or sell cards to MTGOTradersBuyBot(#) (they have buybots 1-4). I have bought cards from MTGOTraders for a decade and a half now, and have never been overcharged or disappointed.
Standard Staples:
Jaya, Fiery Negotiator
,
Leaf-Crowned Visionary
, and
Rundvelt Hordemaster
fell off the list this week.
Hidetsugu Consumes All
and Shipwreck Marsh
came back on to the list.

Standard Legal Sets: This table tracks the cost of a single copy of every card in each Standard legal set, plus Treasure Chests and the current booster pack. I’ll keep tracking these because they are interesting (at least to me). This is being kept as a small tribute to Pete!

The following is a list of all the non-foil, non-promo cards on MTGO that retail for more than $25 per card. These are the big ticket items in the world of MTGO. The list is interesting, at the least. This is interesting to me because a lot of these cards have been reprinted more than once, and they are still commanding a high price.

The big number is the retail price of a playset (4 copies) of every card available on MTGO. Assuming you bought the least expensive versions available, the cost of owning a playset of every card on MTGO is approximately a number that I cannot figure out still. I have actually asked Pete to do this for me, because Open Office is weird, and I have no idea what I am doing, and I am pretty close to just being a dog in a labcoat.
My seasonal affective disorder had me in a chokehold this week. I'm surprised I got this much done, work, cooking, taking care of myself all were hard for me to do, and the worst part of it may have been all the crying I did for no reason at all. Thankfully I have a great therapist and will get great help again this year. It's already better than it was last year. It just sucks that for 4-6 months every year things are a mess.
This series is an ongoing tribute to Erik “Hamtastic” Friborg.
