Well it's that time again................

Time for me to break out into some terrible re-make rendition of Heart Breaker.  Oh wait, I did that last time.  How about another cheesy song reference to segue into my research.

 Again, another hefty investment.  Eh, no one ever said this game (Thank you pauper) format was inexpensive.  As far as prices go, right now Engineered Explosives and Thoughtseize are running high.  Not to long ago you could purchase Engineered Explosives around 12 and Seize around 4, so I'd expect their prices to go back down eventually.  Brainstorm, Ponder, Sensei's, Swords and Snare are all very cheap.  Force of Will being the granddaddy of them all isn't surprising, but don't look for this price to decline anytime soon, if ever.  Daze is sitting at a nice clip as well.  Stifle resting at $5 now is a steal in my opinion and a nice option to ward off those pesky Wastelands that seem popular.

As I would expect the costs here are going to be higher just naturally because the bulk of your deck revolves around this general category.

One nice thing is that 25 out of the 47 decks cost less than $50.00 to complete.  That cost will be even less when you consider several decks run some of those same cards.  The highest deck (Oath) can be disregarded as it isn't a Legacy deck.  The other decks that seem higher in cost are due to these two cards:

 

Maelstrom Pulse is a decent replacement for Deed, but is only about 4-5 dollars cheaper.

Quite a bit of information to let soak in here.  15 out of the 47 decklists are under $100 to complete. 

One thing I've found out from my research is that card costs can result in a car dealership sticker shock type of feeling.  It is a bit overwhelming looking at all these costs if you are just entering or thinking of entering the format.  If you fall into that boat, let me give you some good news.  The investment into eternal formats is worth it!  It's worth every penny spent.  If you don't believe me, I encourage you to go watch a few classic matches online.  Or better yet, some people are already testing for Legacy only decks, go watch one of those matches.

Another thing I found from my research is that Blue is everywhere.  Six out of the Top Ten Legacy spells were blue.  I know many people are turned off by the color. This may be part of the reason they dislike eternal formats, or better yet, why they concede from my casual games (Who knew running Force of Will in casual would become an issue, jk).  It is because of this that I have decided to write two more articles.  One article will focus around Legacy decks not running blue and how you could maximize your collection and still remain competitive.  The other article will focus on something I believe I have overlooked, sideboards.  I think I am missing some key needed cards by not including sideboards in my research.  Cards such as Leyline of the Void are absolutely critical in a format such as this.
