Hello and welcome to a new article series that I randomly chose to start writing in additon to my '12 Uncommons' series. Don't expect more frequent articles from me just because I give you this, since.. this is is for my 'Random Content'.

So, I guess you want to know why we are here and/or got lured in here by the title and expect me to show you some major tech for your STD decks. Not totally wrong, but also not completly right. See, I was hanging arround the casual room and... well.. people are getting feed up with all those tribal decks, not that that is a big new revelation.

Players on a budget normally can't easily deal with hordes of creatures because Wrath of God, Sunscour, Damnation, and Austere Command tend to cost a little more then what they are comfortable with spending on a digital object.

I think I can help those folks, and myself, by showing you how I deal with this. Having playsets of staple uncommons helps a lot, and when you are tired of seeing the one hundreth and fiffty fourth kithkin deck, you pack Pyroclasm. Sometimes this also helps versus faeries and elfs and goblins and merfolk. In other words: most of the time this card is going to be very good!

10th edition versions cost .48 cent at the moment, that is mostly because they are the first black border version we have of that card. Buuuut.. lets see, the 7th, 8th and 9th versions come for .19 cents each. So, what are you waiting for?

Timespiral gave us some more answers against hordes of little creatures, Sulfurous Blast and Hail Storm. The blast goes for eight cents. Sure it hurts you too.. but it can deal three damage, which can be the difference between winning and losing. The storm is easier to cast, but it only works on attacking creatures and pings your own guys too. I'll add the blasts to my pile.

We are heavy in red now, and there is another red card that can deal with lots of noisy creatures just fine. Flowstone Slide, it's harder on the mana then the normal boardsweepers, but it works nonetheless just fine. Since it is a +X/-X effect it kills indestructable or untargetable creatures too. Protection isn't an issue either. Plus at .14 cents a pop it's definitly worth your attention. Casual sweepers are usally a little more pricy, so.. get them. Added to my pile.

So far my deck to survive, and maybe win, against the tribes that run rampant in STD contains playsets of two uncommons and a rare. 12 cards total, not a fullfledged deck yet. Let's keep going on with this. We are at $1.64 now, time to think about creatures and how we can cast our almost-wraths in time.

Green is usally the answer to all problems concerning mana and lands, well, a playset Llanowar Elves from 9th is 32 cents, 8 cents each. That sounds weird since it's going to die to our sweepers, but we just need to be able to cast them and they will help with that.

Plus, if things get awry they can just attack and all that..

Civic Wayfinder grabs a land from the deck and the Ravnica version is one cent cheaper then the 10th one, so lets add a playset of those too. Thats another eight cents and with any luck we will actually play them on turn two most of the time.

Now we need creatures that actually survive our blasts and clasms, green offers those too. Spined Wurm and Craw Wurm will do, no one will accuse us of beeing all tribal-y with them. They are also pretty cheap, funny fact: 10th Spined Wurm is a cent cheaper then 9th. Another eight cents for a playset of each, sixteen cen for casual beef.

Flowstone Slide

Kills better then you think.

We got one slot for another creature left, let's pick something that randomly swings games in our favor without beeing overly strong or hated. Goatnapper. He can grab those tasty changelings for a turn which might come in handy, especially if you manage to get a Chameleon Colossus. Those are popular and changeling decks are a nice way to go against slivers decks too. Keep that in mind if you want to build a cheap anti-sliver deck. Oh  yes, the napper goes for four cents each, which is another sixteen cents.

Lets add that up together now, $1.64 for sweepers and seventy two cents for creatures which totals to $ 2.36. Not bad for a deck that is supposed to show the tribes that we can deal with them, heh?

Now, if you paid attention you will have noticed that we only have 12 spells to twenty creatures so far, there is a reasson to this: Drowner of Secrets. It's popular in casual and I really don't like losing to decking. No, really I don't, I won chaos on March the 23th because I don't like losing to decking. How? 4 Gaea's Blessing, and that is what we will add to the deck. The timeshifted version is $ 1.12 at the moment, but the original Weatherlight one is only going for ninety seven cents. Get them, they are useful and they are cantrips to boot, plus we can reuse our non-wurm creatures with them, not to mention our sweepers. Thats another $ 3.88 for a playset, but trust me, they are really worth it.

We are at $ 6.24 for a deck full of acceleration, sweepers and even recursion. Surprised? Well, we still need to add lands.  Ten Mountains and ten Forests should already be in your collection. I won't count them, but I'll add a playset Terramorphic Expanse, remember my talk about staples? This is also one of those, along with the llanowars and the wayfinders.

Both printings of this one go for fourteen cents, pick whichever you prefer. This adds another fifrty six cents, and the total cost of the deck list minus basic lands is $ 6.80. Feel free to clap.

Oh, and if you want to be less casual, or just want to play only one set of wurms.. Citanul Woodreaders are probably what you are looking for, or Pouncing Wurm if you prefer haste on your beef.

Readers go for about two cents each, eight cents for a playset.. you can't go wrong with them. The pouncing one goes for four cents, sixteen cents for a playset. It's pretty good, try it when you can.

Now I'll just give the decklist and then you are on your own, have fun until I manage to get another article done.

Until next time,
- yours

It's good to see you writing again, Hollow!  It's always fun to see your decks and I think MTGO really needs more 'casual game' focus.  We have lots of focus on tournaments and stuff, but not nearly the amount of focus on casual that I'd like to see.  :)

The only changelings in popular decks is Mutavault and Chameleon Colossus. Not that many colossues around realy.

We are talking casual here, you see them all, from Avian Changeling to Taurean Mauler.

In fact, I snatched maulers and changeling heroes while playing this in casual. =)

Great work on the two decks. I might give the plus deck a try. And i love that they (so far as iv read) is cheap decks that can be bought tested and liked/disliked without having to pay a fortune for somthing that you dont like to play. Again Good work, and keep them coming :)
