It's Friday! The Ban Hammer has fallen. Standard has been saved! I guess. The Core Set date fast approaches, and we have learned more about the fiscal model for MTG Arena. (It does not involve crafting. Probably.) Plus news, deck tech (with Rivals) and Pete weighs in on the background check kerfuffle. All that, just a click away.

It's Friday! The Pro Tour is underway - eight hours underway as this goes live. Time to watch some Modern. In other news, the Team Modern Super League starts next Tuesday, and I'll be watching. Pauper is booming, and we have a lot more information on MTG Arena. I do my best to crunch the numbers for MTGA - which is tough because what few numbers we have are subject to change. But my analysis is just a click away. Also prices, deck tech and the usual stuff.

One set block can often times get stale and can be figured out quickly. How does this quirky UG number perform in a daily event?

It's Friday. Modern Masters 2015 is three weeks away. Standard is evolving rapidly, while other formats are also seeing some interesting innovation. Prices are falling, especially for those cards due to be reprinted in Modern Masters and Tempest Remastered, but attendance in Standard dailies have grown enough that Wizards is raising the caps. It's all good.

In Vintage, people can sometimes be heard saying, "It has a good Mentor matchup." Sometimes you will hear someone declare the card to be broken, and you will hear someone else reply that it's an expensive Young Pyromancer, powerful but wildly overrated. Sometimes I'm asked, "Which do you think is favored in the Delver vs. Mentor matchup?" I began to answer by saying that Monastery Mentor is a card, not a deck.

It's Friday. We had a Pro Tour and the new Standard Metagame has evolved, again. Wizards has announced a high-stakes Vintage online event, and Innistrad drafts are coming back. In the not-news, MTGO was slow coming out of downtime, but this time that was planned. All that, plus news, prices and more.

We have price changes - and Force of Will is back over $100 each. All this, plus tech from paper events with Dragon's Maze in the mix.

This week I do something different to help the new players of MTGO. I've taken the time to screencast a few of the most common questions I see posted around the forums to help the new players get a handle on what's going on on MTGO. If you don't need them, feel free to skip down to the Threads of Interest section.

Summoning Trap makes a contribution to an archetype which many of us find fascinating. However, such a deck would require several counterweights to make it viable in competitive play. Jace, the Mind Sculptor should be one of the best. But what if you don't happen to have one (I mean, four)? In my opinion, there is a card of a lower budget which works just fine in this deck.
