I've never been much of a combo player, so I wasn't quite sure what I was getting in for when I picked up modern Amulet Bloom. I was in for a very pleasant surprise, and have had a huge amount of fun learning this intricate, synergistic and powerful combo deck built around a bunch of taplands and insane ramp effects.

Standard /ˈstandəd/, noun: something used as a measure, norm, or model in comparative evaluations. I couldn't think of a better description of Abzan than this - the deck is the measuring stick against which all other decks in the format are measured, and for good reason.

When you take a deck into a competitive environment, you want to make sure that you are the predator, not the prey of the top decks in a format. Today's deck spotlight is an object lesson in when netdecking a pro tour deck can result in you being on the wrong side of the predator/pretty dynamic.

Right now, the most popular constructed tournament on MTGO requires players to have a 75% winrate just to break even on their entry fee. The price of packs on MTGO has been in almost terminal decline for almost two years now, and it's having a huge effect on anyone who plays in constructed tournaments.

One of the most exciting descriptors of a deck is "Toolbox", and there's no better card to facilitate that than the star of today's deck - Chord of Calling. Check out a standard deck that can be built with virtually no expensive rotating cards that also happens to be just about the most fun competitive standard deck in a long time.
