• Pauper Standard Weekly Metagame Update: MPDC 14.05   13 years 45 weeks ago

1 - MPDC evemts are usually scheduled for Monday, 6 P.M. GMT.

2 - There are two reasons why I decided to put in the links to Gatherling: it's a wonderful tool for tracking metagame and results and I didn't want to duplicate those informations(well, not too much :-) ). Maybe I should just make that links open in another page...Would it be better?

By the way, thank you for your feedback!

  • Speculation 101: New Innistrad Cards, Same Old... Or is it?   13 years 45 weeks ago

First off, Heath told me you would talk to me. I have the message saved so I call BS on that.

And I submitted it because I thought that is how you talk in the editing page since this is the first time I have heard your voice. You don't like me, I get it. What I don't get is why you want to set me up like this over, and over.

It looks bad for you when Heath tells me one thing, which is saved, and then you say another. I mean he does own the site, and you are what? The editor? As in the person who is not supposed to set up his writers. Exactly.

  • Speculation 101: New Innistrad Cards, Same Old... Or is it?   13 years 45 weeks ago

Heath actually told me last night to edit this how I saw fit. He also told me to not talk to you. It was in the submitted folder, I did what I did and published the articles. This article was in line with everything you have submitted in the past so it did not dawn on me that it was a "test" article.

If you have no intention on me publishing something then do not submit it.

  • Speculation 101: New Innistrad Cards, Same Old... Or is it?   13 years 45 weeks ago

Maybe you shouldnt have multiple backlogged articles? Write one, wait for it to be published, write another...

  • Speculation 101: New Innistrad Cards, Same Old... Or is it?   13 years 45 weeks ago

It's funny it seems every set there is a black card that gets printed and everyone is like OMGWTF!?! MONO-Black!!!! Then all the sane people are like, "Yes, please play monoblack at DEs or FNMs I love free bye's in small tournies."

Oh and you didn't even put Nihil Spellbomb in your own sideboard, yet you scream for it all article? Try some consistency. And how sweet of your parents to buy their 'supposed millionaire son' a 3D tv. Even if you watch bad movies on it and yes Pirahnas 3d sucked.

  • Speculation 101: New Innistrad Cards, Same Old... Or is it?   13 years 45 weeks ago

The editor was going to write some things and I was going to re-do my articles. This wasn't supposed to be published as I'm working on how to make the articles better. This wasn't supposed to go up at all, it was just a test for putting up decklists and how to balance pictures and text.

I'm actually really mad this was published when I wrote another one that wasn't posted.

So I'm sorry about this. And I got the rankings based on pre-release prices.

Wow. Just wow. Um sorry. And I had drafts I was going to put up, etc.. This is really making me mad. Josh a.k.a JXClaytor, this wasn't supposed to be posted, especially when Heath said you were supposed to talk to me first.

  • Penguin TV - 4c Fish (No R)   13 years 45 weeks ago

FWIW, I ported this deck into modern. Same creature with some swords instead of the tarmogoyfs (out of my price range). Shock lands instead of duals. Remand, mana leak, remove soul as the counter suite. Path to exile as the spot removal. Graduated from the casual room to the tourney practice room and so far undefeated there, but hasn't face too much of note.

Love the show notes at the start! Thanks guys.

  • Speculation 101: New Innistrad Cards, Same Old... Or is it?   13 years 45 weeks ago

It's better than last time and I enjoy the trainwreck that the comments will inevitably become.

As a piece of contructive criticism (yell if you want, but w/e), you should take 10 minutes a few hours after you write to re-read your writing. You will find sections to trim/cut and sections to expand. Every time I don't do this, I end up with something dumb still in the article when it is published. For you, that would be the over-emphasis on Nihil Spellbomb (cut way back and maybe mention other, better GY hate) and Dissipate (Explain why you love it, talk about a "sweet dissipate story", etc to expand on it instead of just being like <3<3<3 Dissipate!!!!).

Have a good one and in the words of the Human Torch, "Flame on!"

  • Rogue Play - Autumn Leaves, Part II   13 years 45 weeks ago

    Thanks everyone for the comments.

Now that I think of it, Stoneforge with a casting cost of 2W and without the vial ability would have been a fine card; it could have been an uncommon even! And if you really MUST add the vial effect onto it, then it should have been something like this:

X, TAP: Vial into play that Batterskull you just tutored with me but first pay its casting cost you cheater!!

This would still be an uncounterable way of putting Batterskull into play, but at least not as broken as it is right now.

LOurs, yeah, Iona deserved mentioning. As well as Terramorphic Expanse! That simple mana fixer is leaving Standard and I should have at least mentioned this. Thankfully Evolving Wilds is still in Standard.

    Thanks again for the comments.

    wow

everyone is missing the best part of the article. Didn't he say last article he retired at 24 and then he casually mentions the 3d tv he "begged" his parents to not buy him? That my friends is baller status.

I know for sure that I will buy as many nihil spellbombs as I can, and hope against hope that I do not have thousands of Nihil spellbombs sitting on my mtgo account someday.

I feel as if I learned nothing from this article, it was all over the place, nihil spellbomb is mentioned too many times, and I feel insulted.

I will not be clicking on another article of this writer's again.

    Dave I have two questions:

1- When do you guys play (actually this is a dangerous question (at least for me) and I hope it's a time I can't participate)?

2- This one's rather a suggestion than a question: Please do not link the decks to outside of puremtgo. I personally don't like going somewhere else in the middle of an article, if you understand what I mean. It would be better if you can post the winning list(s) here.

Other than that, solid as always.

Poorly written, not well organized, and card evaluation is extremely suspect.

Herp derp, double post. >_< Mea culpa!

  • Yawgmoth's Soap Opera Episode 33: Summer Slump   13 years 45 weeks ago

The article space is being increasingly utilized better! Love the direction the cast is going in. I usually think the spoiler parts of the previous casts have always been low points, but this time, especially with the discussion of Null Rod vs. Stony Silence, you guys are hitting more real Classic content as opposed to "maybe possibly good or playable sometime somewhere in the future of Magic".

Props to my clannie, Angel_of_Righteousness, for returning to Classic (remember, he used to play Shops in the winter and spring). It's a problem that Classic fires so few events. Angel is the kind of player who likes to focus on one deck/format at a time and will sell cards to move from one to another. Sadly, Classic events aren't often enough to lure him into playing all the time. The reason I say this is because I wonder how many people are like him: would love to play Classic, but the chance of a return is so limited, it makes it a waste of resources. =(

THANKS!! for the constant help in exposure of Classic, guys and the Classic PRE events I've been running. So, for those curious, you have still ONE DAY left to register for the Classic Steel-Cage, Sudden Death Extravaganza!!

Listening to you guys talk about it makes me stoked. I think this will be a fun format (single elim) and will really feel like a meat grinder and/or pressure cooker (choose the simile you prefer). Just as a tournament organizer, I'm eagerly anticipating what is brought to the ring of death; the battle of all battles. =D Let's get ready to ruuuuuuuuuuumblllllllllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch, I closed the article in a rush due to a very tight work schedule...Sorry for typos and out-of-place sentences! :(

  • NMS#1 - Good ol' Infect   13 years 45 weeks ago

I think the mana and complete lack of fixing is a trainwreck waiting to happen, but you pulled it off so that's all that really matters.

After looking at your options, I just feel that the black was unnecessary. All it added was a couple of mediocre infect cards, a Scudder that helps your non-infect opponents win more quickly, and the Imp. Which is awesome of course. If you take out your black cards, you're left with 14 infect dudes in G/W. If you replace your black with filler from your sideboard, you could also bring in the Pestilent Souleater too, which effectively makes 15 infect guys. More than enough. Your deck would have been better have only to deal with the WW and GG mana costs, in my opinion.

And in this case, I don't feel like you lost a ton of power in swapping the black out. You bring in the Cobra for a good early drop, the Souleater as mentioned, the Defiance to cycle (and to sometimes actually blow them out with), Glissa's Courier as an ok 3-drop for blocking, and something else. Or just play an extra land.

What did you play for mana? 7-7-3?

  • Flip cards? How about FLIP FORMATS!   13 years 45 weeks ago

Totally agree on the M12 v NMS ... M12 has dropped even more value over the past month. But I am also finding NMS much more interesting and rewarding to play as well. I've now drafted NMS 8 times (all Swiss), the first 2 games only won 1 round still learning the format, next 5 games I won 2 rounds and then the last draft I played back to 1 round. In 6 of those 8 drafts, taking into account the prize-boosters, I matched or exceeded the value of entering the draft. It was only in the very last time I drafted, when I really shouldn't have been drafting because my mind was totally elsewhere and I'm surprised I came out with that 1 win, where the value really failed me, with maybe 1-1.5 tix worth of cards. The other loss was the 2nd 1 round win but I was still getting nearly 10 tix (of 14) worth of value back.

I'm not an experienced speculator by any long shot, but as the year goes on I can only see more cohesion and combo's with NMS mechanics (Proliferate is looking heaps of fun to me in Innistrad). So I really can't see the value dropping either... M12 just looks so plain and dull to me now, even though I did love it and go mad for most of August on it - but was a much more expensive hobby.

I'm a little hesitant on the 4-RND Sealed, simply because I love being able to choose what cards I add to my collection. Only tried 1 with M12 and didn't get much value and just scrapped in a 2nd win to get 3 boosters back (while playing against someone who got Day of Judgement, Sword of War and Peace, couple of Angels and a Planeswalker - kinda rubbed it in!). I'll have to have another shot with NMS though, this format just sings to me so much more :)

As to the NMS draft in this article - I had no idea what you were doing by the half way mark, I agree with a lot of the picks but I got lost not being able to follow what colour or theme was active. I've done drafts like that and I'm staring at a hodge podge of picks with 4 colours and have an impossible time trying to build a deck (and end up doing the same side-board thing of totally adding another colour or even swapping out a whole colour - which has got to be a cool/confusion tactic to play against people if it works!).

  • Fun with Vanguard #53: Finally!   13 years 45 weeks ago

    thanks guys.

I have been liking momir basic for a while, but it is still too random for me sometimes. I have had fun discovering these formats and PREs.

  • Flip cards? How about FLIP FORMATS!   13 years 45 weeks ago

i think if your building a collection its sealed all the way, if your doing it for fun then its gotta be draft.

  • Flip cards? How about FLIP FORMATS!   13 years 45 weeks ago

Thanks! Good point about the value of Sealed vs Draft: If you're pretty good at limited, sealed is certainly the way to go for value.

  • Fun with Vanguard #53: Finally!   13 years 45 weeks ago

    Yes. Because Spiking is evilllll.

On the other hand, I like CR's stuff.
