No, he did not accomplish the same thing. Given the board advantage he had vines was the more powerful card, because it protected a dominant position. Thus preserving it was more important. Also, he put the 'zoa back in his opponent's deck instead of killing it* where drawing it again would be much better for his opponent then the author redrawing his gladeheart.
* He kills it exactly as you lay out above, by waiting until *after* combat to disfigure.
It is a small thing - but it could have made a difference. If his opponent happened to rip Hideous End followed by a reshuffled 'zoa (and eventually a few lands!) then what should have been an easy win could have turned out badly.
Very spiky this article series. Not much casual information within but still interesting. I had thought/heard/understood that the scapeshift deck archetype was all but dead in Extended. I'm guessing that rumor was a bit exaggerated.
this build that i posted with the foils runs just over 2 grand according to mtgo traders. Fortunatly i hate std and ext chase rares allowed me to upgrade all of my regular cards into foils.
For those interested this deck is missing 1 tundra, 2 mox diamonds 2 pernicious deeds, 1 mana drain 1 demonic tutor 3 force of will and 3 mindbreak traps.
it will take forever to finish but it will be worth it in the end when i can field a competitve foil classic deck. huzzah for my monument to excess.

He accomplished the same thing, but with Vines instead of Disfigure.
BTW a cool trick to use is if your opponent blocks a 2/2 with Gomazoa, but doesn't want to use the trick on it (saving it for a better target), you can kill it with Disfigure/Burst after combat and the effect doesn't kill your creature since he is no longer being blocked by big G.
Round 3 Game 2 on the turn you Harrow you should just cast the Druid and hold back. You have regen/Vines mana this way making it difficult for your opponent to attack into you. The next turn you can cast Woodcrasher with regen/Vines up making it difficult for him to attack yet again. Then next turn you can use Harrow and a possible land drop (and Vines to protect and pump if you still have it) to do a ton of damage - probably lethal with a kicked Burst.
You were just to eager to get Disfigure/Burst online I don't think you took into account the Harrow/Woodcrasher megapump.
As a matter of fact, you can even NOW play Eye of Ugin. Put any number of changelings of your liking and 4 Eye of Ugins, and then Mycosynth Lattice to turn them into colorless artifact creatures and you're good to go.
The part about the sealed feels tagged on and is about 3 months too late. Also boarding out Bushwacker is just wrong wrong wrong, the red Expedition is the card that always has to go. It's ok as a filler but in reality horrible.
Glad to see you back at it and side note i'd be interested to hear where outside philly, but back to teh article you really couldnt ask for a more decisive break down of the deck, only a couple match break downs would enable it to be more so, however that would be almost a whole other article in itself.
I follow card prices and trends quite frequently (kinda like my mini stock market) and the one card that i've been a little unsure of is Tarmogoyf...Extended season is pretty much done except for the LCQ and championship so I can't see why Goyf has risen to 60 tix in the past 48hrs. is this typical prior to the championship? and where do you think the price will rest in the upcoming months?
Next opinion on price is for Worldwake chase mythics. I'm thinking Jace will have a huge price tag in the start like 40-45 tix's but once more product moves online, I would say it would rest at about 25-30 while in standard. The Abyssal Persecutor will likely start in the mid twenties but from there I can see it dropping to the 12-15 range. Any thoughts on those price points?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that just waste Disfigure? The Gladehart dies, the Gomazoa has taken two damage; I cast Disfigure, and he taps it in response to send it back to the Library. At least I was able to "recycle" the Gladehart this way.
Round 2 game three with timber maw on board and baloth in hand you should have put the antelope damage on the gomozoa and then disfigured it, clearing the way for your beaters to attack unmolested. Getting 0-1'd is just as bad as getting 1-2'd and this way you get a key piece of removal out of the way.
PS - this works because Gomazoa ability only works *while* it is actually blocking, not at any other time.

I suspect the Eldrazi will be an almost entirely colorless tribe.
Interesting Article with shiny cards. :) I still won't play it but it is an interesting thing to think about.
it was tacked on. It is way to late to finish writing it, but i had already done the effort of the article so i figured why not add it.
hey there, i live in glenside, and every now and then attend brave new worlds limited tournys if your familaiar.

isn't that negated due to the "colorless" stipulation?
How is Extended season done in any way?

It is an artifact, it's just a misprint. Check gatherer.
Why isnt the walking atlas an artifact creature?

I love reading drafts! Thanks for the write-up.
Eldrazi being a creature type could be very interesting for changelings indeed. I've started to think of possible decks already.
