Because it was a draft, and it was about to fire. And I played in M10 because I have lots of M10 packs.
> Why play Looter..?
read the whole article - especially the part about how I played the wrong land on turn three.
> Why DoJ instead of PC?
Because I wrote about game one quickly - since what I really wanted to write about was game two. I got blown out by a splashed Wrath effect in game one, from a deck that had no business splashing for it.
> Just joking ... did not crack an expanse throughout the article?
Read the line right after the picture: "I blew the Expanse at the end of his turn, like a good little player."
well, since we were all talking about online, and since many pros change account names at times, I doubt you will always know when you play against a pro.
This is hardly a "misleading example." I'll say it again more clearly: if a limited expert recommends cracking expanses on turn one, I'll reconsider. Until then..
Yes, it was Planar Cleansing. Which is triple white - so even more of a surprise game one, given that he was playing cards that required massive amounts of Mountains and Swamps. He was also playing lots of lands, because he had rare-drafted like mad (as he told me) and he probably had a dozen playables.
OBV that he did not know how Illusionary Servant works. However, given his play in turn one, he probably would have used the Weakness just to reduce the damage. Was my opponent that bad - remember that I mentioned that I lost 14 rating points? That means my opponent's rating had to be around 1400 or so. (edit: 1390, assuming my rating was 1725, which was probably about right.)
Yes, the draft happened. I remember making the mistake on turn three, and remember spending pretty much the entire draft beating myself up because I could have been looting through the land flood, had I not been an idiot. However, I could not find the replay when writing this, so I had to recreate game one. I remember getting blindsided by the splash sweeper, which took out my groundpounders and sweepers. I should have called it Wrath - which is what I always call it in written notes, no matter what flavor of Wrath it is.
As a few of you noted, the whole point of the article is that bad beats stories are almost never really stories of how the shuffler screwed you, but how you screwed up. I'll try to be more obvious in the future.
Roflmao just because Pete made a mistake does not invalidate his article. I understand being aggrieved by it but you caught it. So...now what? Everything else he said must be a lie? That's a might strange curve there.
Good article Fenix. I remember playing vs this combo a few years ago. Was pretty horrifying to be given Phage. Not once but a couple games in a row as the person insisted on playing me more than once. Not a fun deck to play against.
You say he Seismiced the Servant when he had his forth mountain. Might this indicate he doesnt know how Servant works? Have you asked?
Because if he doesnt understand he wouldnt have used the weakness on it, and used it on the looter a turn later.
This would mean you still wouldn't get the Air Elemental in time, but you would have gotten an extra beats in.
Also why no beat on turn 8, or did you just miss to write that down?
Shaky article, and frankly I dont belive it ever happened because of the Day of Judgement "mistake"
I see the point ruckus is making.. the draw card is a trigger when the star goes into the yard.. Yawgmoth's will exiles everything that goes into the yard so the draw won't happen. I'm not too sure how replacement triggers work but good catch.
Looks like there are a few more details to take note of... @_@
I don't think it works with the sphere because the card draw is a part of the resolution of the mana ability then, drawing you the card before the tendrils is placed on top of the library
"There is a much better version of this deck (in my opinion), that beat me in the finals of the most recent Online PTQ. He made a few surprising additions that have really helped out his more problematic matchups."
you seriously were not aware of this version? it's saitou zoo, he used it in worlds along with the world champion andré coimbra.
So how about telling me how to access the folder for card art in MOL. I've looked under program files using Vista and nothing under Wizards of the Coast, just my Etools, lol. Is the destination folder something different other than Wizards of the Coast? Thanks.
In your initial Yawg Will chain, you cannot use Chromatic Star, because it has a g/y trigger which Will overrides. If you replace this with Chromatic Sphere, the chain still works to allow you to draw a card from the tutor.
as someone who isn't a drafter I'm thinking more towards constructed applications or at least tribal standard. And I made sure to write so that regardless its still only a one 4 one until you start dropping multiple allies a turn. So if your opponent plays one creature a turn and so do you you are still only tapping one of theirs. I guess its sort of a free blinding mage but it requires you to play creatures. THough it would need to be at least uncommon since multiples would get fairly abusive pretty quick.
actually I thought about it on the way home. It's possible you could make its a 0/1 for 1W and then make it uncommon. Not the one drop you asked for, but I think at this lower level and higher cost, it wouldn't be a first pick that would force you into Allys if you opened it.
As for a 2/1 at rare. It's not really it's power and toughness that is the issue. It's the fact that it costs 1 and it has an ability that is super abusive. If could be 0/1 for W at rare and STILL be good. But yeah I could see it being a 2/1. However I think it would be a rare that if you opened this, it would force you to draft it and be in allies.
How to modify the lands? I found the art files in the card art folder and replaced them with Anime. I figure two things:
1) It's about the same as skinning the client
2) It's a small way we can customize our cards that paper player have enjoyed for years. We can't get cool custom art, but we can make our cards a bit more personal. Which is what I did to my local forests and mountains. However I often switch them back and forth, as I feel the desire to see the gorgeous Zendikar lands in their full glory. :D
Hmmm maybe you could reread my first paragraph about her? That's basically what I already said.
I went with a deck that was a slightly different approach (but still overall an aggro deck) because the obvious stuff is boring to me and usually not worth writing about. I plan on my next Lyzolda deck being an even more different approach.
Uncommon? That might have a power level of rare. As a 1 drop that is fantastic. As an uncommon you're looking at a game winner in limited. Draft this or lose to it.
That is a technique that involves changing the card art in the game files. It's not an overly wise thing to do, but lots of players like to do it anyway.
I agree that people who talk about Zoo usually lump them into one category, when there are many different variants. That is one reason why I wrote this article, and hopefully people will listen.
Also, I didn't really pay attention to the breasts on Wild Nacatl...my bad. At least that means I'm not a furry!
Hmm with Join the ranks and Halim Expediter? or whatever the blue mill ally is i might meed to revisit them. Im still convinced though Allies need a one mana guy
W
1/1
Whenever -cardname- or another ally comes into play tap target creature?
heck make it uncommon
while i certainly agree w/ watching your replays to gain insight into how you should have played or could have played better, i always take it w/ a grain of salt because your perception of the situation has shifted greatly. while watching a replay, it's easy to say you should have done one thing over another because you not only know what the next play is going to be, but you also know what the play after that is going to be all the way to the conclusion. your information is limited by the present. so in the end, i try to learn from my mistakes, but i also make sure to consider my situation at the time considering i didn't have all the information i have at games end.
good article tho. nice point to make about making every play count, even a basic land drop.
Most bot chains use either a master base list, or scrape the prices of one of the dealers who use that list.
Mass speculation/hoarding is something I've commented on a few times now. And the end result is the same: scarce cards and upset players. 53 isn't really "hoarding" per se, but when ten people do the same thing, it has the same net result as one person hoarding.
> Why playing in a 4322?

what is this i don't even
i think you have to go into the actual program files of your computer not through the User folders...
