    WHOA!

Thank you for the helpful information. It never comes up in normal conversation, it's not in the official FAQ, and actually I remember hearing the opposite - that it couldn't be done. Thank you!

I thought you might like to know:

We have a Peasant PRE every Sunday night (like Pauper but with 5 uncommons) and every so often add alternate spins to mix it up. This format has inspired us enough that on the 24th we'll be running Dakkon Singleton Peasant - overlaying these rules on the Peasant format. It sounds fun so thanks for the inspiration!

It definitely is fun. I didn't play my version though because I figured it would fall to dredge or some other turn 1-2 combo. Apparently that was not the case though and Flippers won. His version might have been slightly more tuned with dragon choices. Mine tends towards the funky dragons (what I own).

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Goblin Assault/Casual Fun: Breaking Every Rule   15 years 23 weeks ago

Flippers' HyperDragons looks like a blast. Good job Flippers, I'm definately impressed. An excellent way of playing Hypergenesis in Tribal.

As others have said, the cards are available in bots if you are willing to pay the going rate.

As to what I'm missing from my Exodus -- 2 Survivals and a Spike Weaver. I bought a Survival for 11, and then another for 18, but they keep going up, which normally I don't mind. Survival is easy if you pay 35. I'm unsure I'll ever be willing to pay it though.

Wizards has never cared if single cards break 100 each (chant/deed/vindicate) back in the day online, and I don't see Oath going past Force of Will in price, personally. That's still much less than 100.

You might as well complain about the price of Baneslayer Angel in standard due to 'availability issues' from mythic rarity.

teferi was fairly annoying and slightly hard to answer. Luminarch..far too many cards say good bye to it. its not a tough card to fight.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Goblin Assault/Casual Fun: Breaking Every Rule   15 years 23 weeks ago

depending on the decks i totally understand...I wish there was a way to save replays from the Tribal event in order to do a batter write up. However with multiple matches at a time its hard to give a good overview. Though I will try something different next week.

As far as my client goes, it was a skin made by Randelflag.
it can be found here http://www.cerealkillaz.org/?display=8AB65F42-1CCE-4B43-BD5D-3DD7D76F7944

there is another program called something like mtgo chameleon you can find online which also has an additional 6-8 skins.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Goblin Assault/Casual Fun: Breaking Every Rule   15 years 23 weeks ago

love the articles, but in a bit of crit I'd sometimes like to see a bit more about the decks and the games

and how did u get your client to look so cool? lol

  • Anything But - Multiplayer Enchants Week 2   15 years 23 weeks ago

it really depends on what side of it you're on... I love playing with it, but especially in multiplayer it becomes one of those cards that ramps up in power big time

  • Anything But - Multiplayer Enchants Week 2   15 years 23 weeks ago

Luminarch may be the least fun card since Teferi.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: Goblin Assault/Casual Fun: Breaking Every Rule   15 years 23 weeks ago

Thatic's Goblins rolled over my double mulled Giants deck round 1 that week. Which is funny because the same match up in previous practice had the opposite effect. Also a funny thing is I wrote about Hyper Dragons a few days before the PRE (though it was posted the same day) and then Flippers showed up with his version. I don't know the real answer to 'combo goblins' (which is what Thatic told me it was) except to keep blowing them up and hope they don't combo off. Moat works at least to keep them from killing you on the ground.

The old searing angels deck (circa Ravinica) was boros red/white and included more creatures.

I agree that it would be nice to have more tempest block cards available, but I really don't see classic "withering" up into a "dead format" without them. I don't think that's possible, frankly.

  • What Legacy Needs   15 years 23 weeks ago

Saying you can't find survival of the fittest when you're paying nearly 10 tix below the bot sell price is just silly. There are cards out there if you're willing the pay the going rate. That's like me saying I've been looking for a year for a foil underground sea. Then having you find out a few days later that I'm paying 15 tix for it.

For the record, at 8:49 EST there's currently 2 survival of the fittest on mtgotraders.com available at 34 tix.

Is there somewhere I can read about the results of the 1st tournament? I was interested in it, but I couldn't attend. Also, did the banned list get updated? Thanks!

There are certain things you can tell about how your opponent is playing that will give certain tells, and should be noted.

    1. You can generally tell whether or not an opponent has pressed F6 by how quickly your spells resolve. If you know that your opponent has pressed F6, you can use this knowledge to get away with a spell/ability that they have an instant speed response to that would otherwise mess you up.

An example, I'm playing ZEN Block contstructed, my opponent has a carnage altar. I've been holding back my rite of replication, when I notice my spells are resolving as soon as I click them. I can then kick my rite of replication at his Malakir Bloodwitch for the win, where if I didn't know he/she had pressed F6, I'd still hold the card until I could get rid of the carnage altar.

    2. Sometimes an opponent will tell you off after a game, or make some comment about you being a luck-sack, or some such thing. At that point, you know you've frustrated them, and as such they'll likely play more aggressive the next game, and it might be worthwhile to wait a turn to see if your Day of Judgement will go from a 2-for-1 to a 3-for-1.

Tainted Pact is a nice card and one I've not noticed before, I'll be looking at getting one of those. Again spike weaver is another interesting card maybe to replace Tangle.

Persecute will be a good addition to the sideboard vs mono decks. The stronghold I have just over looked when making the deck.

Thanks for the comment its been very helpful

  • Waiting for Godot: Ob Noxious   15 years 23 weeks ago

I winced a bit at the decision to throw Ob Nixilis out rather than trying to bait removal a little more first.

"Was my gut correct, or did Villain peel that journey off the top?" If your gut leads you into a play where you lose value, maybe you should ask your gut a different question - like "Does my opponent (I won't say villain, I still hate the subtle psychological shading that adds to articles) have Journey in their hand or top card of their deck?" Or maybe top 2 or 3 cards.

Granted, your gut is only going to give you a read of his behavior about things he knows, like his hand, not things he doesn't know either. I might give the gut a little extra leeway in a face to face game, where you can read body language in addition to past turn behavior, suspicious pauses, etc. Still, if his only out that makes Ob Nixilis the wrong play is his topdeck, it's not a bad guess. Given that removal a couple cards down might still make it to soon to rush out your bomb, it's a risk that looks more like you should only make it if you need him out this turn or you lose.

Of course the usual disclaimer applies about how the right/wrong play isn't always the one that worked/failed this time, but the one that had the highest percentage chance to go well, if you replayed the game a hundred times, etc.

I have to say I also don't like seeing the Into the Roil used mainly just to draw a card and to set your opponent back tiny amounts on tempo (1 scorpion damage + 3 mana he has to respend is trivial). The card can get much more value than that, and in situations where there isn't huge immediate pressure on your life total, it should be saved to get more value. Especially in your deck, where you're not digging towards a huge amount of bombs or removal, and have to try and win by building up incremental bits of advantage with decent cards. Especially especially against an opponent like that, where you're facing an uphill battle, casting a spell for little value is rough.

I would have liked to see the speculative P1P8 ally, which would have made your Umara Raptors a little better. Also P1P7, since you don't like the scrabblers anyway, I might have grabbed the worse-but-black Mindless Null, just to slightly decrease the number of black cards being seen downstream (though he's unquestionably bad). I also like the Rite of Replication pick - could have turned into a nice bog tatters to help you try and race, or something. Plus, win or lose, after the draft you have one more rare for your collection, as opposed to a 12th copy of some random common.

That is such a good book. Very deep, very profound, and very good for making one think about what they think they know.

It's one of my favorites to just pick up and read randomly. So many good questions in the book. :)

It always amuses me that people treat the reserve list like it's a law. It's just a policy, if they think it's best to break it, then they will. Reprinting of old sets anyone? (IPA..)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not flaming/hating anything by saying this.

For some reason i when i woke up today and was just lying in bed i thought of Nietzsche and how i have problems understanding "Also sprach Zarathustra". Then i got up and sat down here and the first thing i see is that quote. Weird weird coincidence:)
