Seems like spot on common sense advice. :) Glad to hear you have a hoard of packs lying around to have fun with. :D Hope you crack some broken stuff while drafting.
This is indeed my goal, as I plan to demonstrate next week, that in order to improve I must practice and focus on my play. Slow down, focus, etc. A good way for me to do that is to record my progress. :)
See that is what I meant. Surely there is a place for this sort of thing even if it isn't MY cup of tea. I fully appreciate that some people dig this stuff. Well said.
I think the fact that the author is getting a lot of contentious feedback demonstrates the interest the community has in the subject. He certianly doesn't need to do any more than he's been doing, but there are many of us who would love to see it if he did, which should be appreciated as support for his efforts when the person expressing it keeps their civility. I find it an interesting logical exercise to think about the data he's presenting, so that's already a winner, if I agreed with everything he was concluding in analysis it probably wouldn't be as interesting, so keep it up mr. sandyman, this kind of writing is sorely underpopulated in the mtg community.
Nice walkthrough, especially the "microscope" section at the end. I play mostly paper and have gotten into mtgo just recently (still quarreling over the cost on/offline. More money would be great, yes.). In paper, I often have my 40 cards more or less memorized and can often identify the "outs". After this read, I really am going to make it a habit.
Sacing the lands wouldn't have helped against dredge's bridge's since it has to be a non-token creature to keep the bridges under control. I probably still wouldn't have won that one, but it's hard to say for sure since another turn may have produced a Relic of Progenitus or something... who knows. :/
True enough though there might be enough changelings to make the difference with many of the tribes. But that would leave a different problem of mana issues.
I imagine that with the right rules in place we could see an end to a lot of the more heinous things we see in TWC currently. Also while gobos, elves, etc are attractive because they are large in tribe they are not all equal and I for one would rather face a deck with just ONE ringleader, matron etc rather than 4x each + 4 commanders etc.
Tribal Singleton could very well work, but it would really limit the number of tribes. How am I supposed to play crabs as my tribe? There are only 5. hehehehe
Match 2 Game 3, He had a great turn two but you kept saying you misplayed sacing the creature early which is true... But you can sac the artifact lands if you wanted to... You were going to lose anyway tho.
Old fashioned beatings are satisfying but hard to administer across the interwebs.
I do think that having the option to ignore the clutter in classifieds would be a great boon. I ignore a bot (/blockuser) that means I never want to use them again. Of course accidents do happen with that stuff but very rarely. At least have the stupid things come off the board while you are logged in. Another thing that needs to be enforced is the Large print writing.
I know wotc cant do anything about ripoff prices, but the people running the bots doing need to be taken out behind the shed and shot!
Or at least slapped around a bunch.
It seems that given how potent the sword/foundry combo is the plan would be not to focus on the red zone. I mean aggro decks have such a hard time beating chump blockers and life gain. I would have thought something like monored storm from std a while back would be a player in the ext metagame. It doesn't get rocked by meddling mage like scapeshift, and it doesn't care about the chump blockers. Burn can slow things down while it sets up rituals and storm, etc. What would you say the metagame factors are that is keeping monored storm/UR storm out?
i agree the hidden words should be stopped. I say certain names...cardbot, cardhoarder, mtgotraders should be reserved and only registered bots should be allowed to use those in their ads. As far as rip off prices..i dont think wotc can do anything there. Since that would be interfering in the secondary market pricing. I believe they want to stay out of that due to racketeering clauses.
As far as tribal singleton goes...I think it could be a fun experiment. Though even with onyl 60, you are going to give birth to some strategies you may not enjoy. Goblins and elves will both become much more played as would soldiers and wizards in my mind. Though it is something to test out at some point.
Vore is tier 1 by virtue of it's cheapness, so you should always expect a decent number. Also, it is actually a good deck. The vore list you used was aweful, so tune it up and you should get better results next time :)
60 I think would be both less and more difficult...would exclude some lesser populated tribes but it would also make tribes with intense synergy less impactful than regular tribal. Now with 100s it is really much more "Wheel of Fortune" because I am going with the notion of needing 30% creatures (not merely 20) which means half your nonlands must be of a single tribe as well as being creatures..
Yeah the scamming is way out of hand. But WotC seems to have their hands tied. I don't get why they don't enforce their rules (fraud is a CoC violation). One of the biggest problems with the classifieds as they are now is those you block stay cluttering up the board. If they could be ignored and removed from the board by individuals then the system would at least be bearable if still pathetic as you say.
The trading system on mtgo is pathetic and needs to be a top priority. If it is going to remain a bulletin board then there needs to be one for buying one for selling. Also, anyone found advertising falsely (using hidden words, lying about prices, etc) should be immedietly banned from the system.
Right now if you type in mtgotraders in the search it brings up 20 or more bots. I checked one of the first to see whwt they are paying-.02 for a bloodbraid elf. Scammers like that should be banned forever.
Have to say that in an Ally deck, Rite of Replication is insane. I have replicated (with kicker) my Turntimber Ranger with 3 other allies out. Can we say evil!
This card is insane if you can get a couple of hits in - lets say you are on 7 life and hit with it - suddenly you are on 14. that can be 3 turns more to hurt them. If you hit twice the game is yours.
Remember you are playing a fast deck and usually are racing - if you can move the finish line away from your opponent the race is yours.
One other thing - Mantle on an equipped dualist = double double! so 7 life becomes 28!

Heh that birds deck sounds like mine. I remembered thinking how cool it was that someone was actually playing bears.
I would like to see Pale Bears in a future ME set as they would be a nice boost to my tribal bear deck.

Great article Hammy! I especially liked the addition of the videos with comments. And Affinity is a deck close to my heart too.
It would be plain awesome if you were to continue showing those videos with comments in the future :)

To me, it sounds more like someone who has a grudge against her.

Nice one, great effort.

and i mean you as a general term not singling out anyone
