Spell pierce is okay, I still have to test with it though. It might also appear like a pile whiff, but this pile has netted me 30-2 in 8 mans and a 4-0 and a 3-1 in the two DE's i played. Its my default deck to the meta, really just so much counter magic to hate out everything! Great defenses against wasteland and a sick sick sick (sick sick sick sick) finisher off in dreadnought against early agro decks.

  • Flying Hippos - The Little Deck That Grew   15 years 34 weeks ago

I really enjoyed that. I am a big fan of the backstory. A little meatyer then your last one also helps. I gotta say though that the last list still looks like a pile. in your defence though haterade looked even worse on paper and was pretty phenominal for a few weeks.

Nice article Fatman. I loved it - cover to cover.

One question now - Spell Snare. Is Spell Pierce it's successor? Is there a meta state that makes one a better choice over the other?

Please keep in mind that I was more or less only looking at cards legal in Standard Pauper. An article exploring all the possible Nonbasics for (Classic) Pauper would be much more extensive!

world queller has a huge!!! impact on the board. If you untap with this on turn 3 yes you can get it down on 2 if you build the deck right, then absurd things happen. people said the same of elspeth and she is the go to win condition in legacy landstill, and shes a mana cheaper. But seriously this deck has waste and crucible. you can untap choose land and then wasteland another copy and all of a sudden their down 2. or you can name artifact and blow up one of there moxes, then wasteland. i didnt say it would be perfect but it certainly will have an effect if you untap.

i agree with you 100% and next weeks article will have a lot more detail. there is something to be said about mystiqe though and that is why there was only a small blurb about this.

I have had this idea for a long time, just ask Joshua claytor. I have also asked around from other players and the general consensus was, sounds like fun and a good idea.

when i spoke about it to my clan 2 weeks ago most were super happy and one of them was so excited that he said he was going to write an article for the site about 1st impressions in the set. I dont know if he is still planning this but it did hold my hand when talking about it more in depth.

I will leave it at yes you are right w/ all your comments/concerns except one*, and that i purpsoely left it vauge.

As long as your talking about land strategies, I would think it would be worthwhile to look take another look at Moonfolk (Soratami Cloudskater, Oboro Breezekeeper, etc) and the Ravnica Bouncelands. Both of these can basically give you a perpetual landfall and combo with the Zendikar bonus lands.

Also, I believe that the fact that (Expedition Map) gives Trinket Mage the ability to summon one of these special lands is also worth noting.

    1. The panoramas were in Shards of Alara, not conflux.
    2. White doesn't have artifact hate at cmc 2? What happened to the good old disenchant?

In addition, you can collapse the stack, OR make it almost completely see-through.

But like the mana, it's only there when you need it.

Currently the plans are also to differentiate the type of items on the stack as well. Meaning that abilities on the stack will be visibly different from spells on the stack.

It's not a biggie, I was really trying to be nice and asking whiffy's help to get into the MED Block Constructed. And I'm sure there are many other players who think MED = duals + FoW. He just has to show us that this isn't true.

Somehow, I missed talking about theoretical MED Block and not Classic, in which case I agree 100% with what you said. Serves me right for not paying enough attention

Excellent article. I really enjoyed it especially the evolution. But having played my GRO deck a lot lately I am convinced that Goyf just doesn't belong in the Bant Gro deck (or any Gro variant) considering the meta right now. With Dryad, Coatl and Noble, it's my opinion the four Goyf spots could be better utilized with either: (1) an additional Coatl; or (2) more Gush; or (3) inserting the excluded but referenced Mana Drain's; or (4) more tutors; or (5) Propaganda (my preference). Goyf just doesn't seem to work well in this deck and seems unnecessary to me when I pilot the deck.

Your Jitte idea is interesting. I never really considered playing it in this deck. No idea why, but just didn't dawn on me. But darn, I always find getting Jitte on the board and keeping it there is almost impossible. Not even worth my effort to try. (hehe)

Just my opinion. But either way, great article.

  • Does Land Really Matter?   15 years 34 weeks ago

Until now, lands really didn't matter for Standard Pauper. But now everything has changed. Just look at Plated Geopede and Steppe Lynx and you'll understand what I mean. Even Terramorphic Expanse is an insane card now in the same deck with those two.

Having said that, I still believe that a little bit more early game mana fixing would be great in order to play 3 colors without too many problems. I hate NOT being able to play Blightning and Putrid Leech in the same deck because of mana fixing problems.

    Nice article by the way.

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 37- Zendikar for Classic and some things that start in Pre.   15 years 34 weeks ago

I don't know about people who lament about the duals or FoW but there is certainly a group of people who:

    a) Were around when those cards were cheap,
    b) Had the foresight when those cards where cheap,
    c) Had the money to buy them,

But they don't care about Classic at all and therefore didn't even bother to buy them.

The link you gave is very useful without doubt, but I wasen't talking about Classic but about MED Block. I was merely saying that if whiffy (who is a very important writer for puremtgo and who is an important Classic player from what I understand)and his clan would like to see new faces in their tournament, then he should write a few words about this new format, advertise it so to speak, and introduce it to players who have no idea about MED sets.

I also said that if they don't do that, their event will be full with players who ALREADY play the format. If they do some kind of propaganda for their event, however, they would see a lot of new faces.

And for the record let me add that I think that this was a very constructive and supporting comment.

    Thanks for the suggestions though.

    http://www.classicquarter.com/tournaments/

It has breakdowns by meta and card usage.

Anyone who thinks you absolutely need Duals and FOW to play in classic hasn't done the barest minimum of research on the subject, despite several good references.

You can play without FOW and duals but your choices are limited, of course. Elves and Pox (MBC) and Dredge are really the only choices, but that's still a lot of lists.

However, as most people lament, they WANT to play with the Duals and FoW, they either a) Weren't around when thos cards were cheap (yes, even FoW was once 13 tix), b) Didn't have the foresight to buy when those cards were cheap, or c) simply don't have that kind of money.

The stack starts at the center of the left edge of the screen, going on top of the rest of the display, and grows towards the right as things are added to it. There's also a function to let you collapse the stack in case it's covering up stuff you want to look at, that makes all the cards slide over to the left edge in a compact pile, then they spring back when you're done.

I got to toy around with the prototype and ask Adrianna some questions about it too, I'll be writing up a Pro Tour report and will put some of what I found out in there. Interesting trivia for today - 40-50% of current MTGO users run their PCs at a screen resolution of 1024x768.

Maybe i'm alone in this, but I always felt that of all the UI problems 3.0 had... the duel scene was the least of them. Other than the misplaced chatbox, everything worked fine -- better even than 2.5. What REALLY needed work was... everything else! Has that been updated too or do they still have their heads in the dirt?

wow.... I sooo need a new computer... but I'm going to have to wait till an announcement as I would rather get a MAC!!!!

On a related note... What I want is a freakign alarm for round starts and for disconnects! I've lost way too many tourneys/packs thanks to being disconnected without realizing it.

  • MTGO V3.5 UI Preview   15 years 34 weeks ago

Where does the stack go? I really don't find anything wrong with the current duel screen (with big card format). What is bad UI is everything around it (i.e. dock, sliding menus).
