awesome deck flippers. I really enjoyed it and the budget breakdown was very welcome. I may try to build it though im going to have to find something for the thoughtseize....maybe raven's crime would work
A pleasure to read.
The writing was terrific; clear, concise, interesting. I enjoyed it immensely.
I'm glad that your were able to convey your love of Magic (and games in general) to your son. And just wait until he realizes how good some of those 'scary' cards can be ;)
I look forward to reading much more.
The sign-off somehow got chopped at the end. We'll take a stroll down the dark side next time, but this is getting to be very tiring, so it may be longer than a week. I hope something was useful in here for you. Ben Bentrup (a.k.a. Bazaar of Baghdad)
how did you get all the APAC plains? didja trade people individually for them or didja buy them somewhere? I'm trying to get them and having diffculty getting them quickly
The one thing Ive noticed from AJ's and LE's articles is that there is a lot of discussion about spirit of format issues in this format. I don't think any play is wrong in tourney. As long as it is a legal play. That said combo seems to violate the spirit of the format by bypassing the need for good tribes to win. You can play any tribe that enables the combo and if you do it right you can make it consistent enough to win. I am a bit confused about where the format is going which is one reason I haven't bothered to show up for these things. The other being that I seem to not be online whenever they are scheduled. That said I think it is very cool that you are supporting this format and hope you continue to do so.
I hate that Megrim gets love from so many different cards in this set but :) I guess we white card players will need to run disenchant effects main deck again. (As if there weren't enough other reasons to as well)
Interesting budget decks. Do they have sometimes decent win %s? or is 5% standard for them? I can't play in classic yet but the format is intriguing with the more I get into singleton 100 the more I see possibilities in it's parent format.
Heh I am still getting used to the notion of 60 card standard singleton idea. I haven't made any decks yet for it. The downside of course would be having to get the new cards coming out where as with eternal formats once you've got the cards you are somewhat set. The upside is the downside...not having to invest in hugely expensive cards. The new cards will rise a bit then fall (hopefully) into buyable ranges.
Sorry about your opponent. That is the one area of the tourney I didn't like. The score seems a bit off to me. And I agree there should be some discussion of the tourney when it is over. The thing to keep in mind is that prizes are out of Tweaker's pocket so its entirely up to him how the thing works. If we want "fairer" rules we need to ante up some cards of our own.
Yeah I agree, generally those cards go in first but in this deck for some reason I really felt sweepers were the way to go. So of course it will have trouble with aggro decks...perhaps that indicates something of what the sideboard should be? btw grats on your wins to date. Thanks for commenting.
This is the 1st Zen review article Ive read fully. It was fun. The others were boring so I skimmed or closed the tab. Good Job in keeping my attention.
Quest for the Gemblades might be a solid pick in drafts where there are no 4x Terminates and 4x Path to Exiles and 4x Day of Judgments and 4x Maelstrom Pulses etc... But I don't think it is Constructed material.
And yes, of course it should have been Hellfire Mongrel in the decklist, that's a mistake. But the link is correct though.

Why did you not compare Shatterskull Giant with its counterpart Lowland Giant? Did you forget?

Ack! Gremlins at it again! This time they and their cohorts (the Squirrels) ate the real ending?

Next week if I can afford the cards (or borrow some), I'll bring a different broken combo deck.
No dredge in the deck. It was Cephalid Breakfast (Cephalid Illusionist + Shuko).
actually i meant counters more along the lines of blue spells that say no and cantrip...

Fun article. I am looking forward to Zendikar and am filled with anticipation of its impact in the formats I play.

Actually...It`s Blood Tribute and Sanguine Bond (+a Vampire, so it`s unreasonable to call it a "2-card-combo")
Dark Depths and Vampire Hexmage
a fun thing i did in a pre-release draft was explorers telescop with either teritorial baloth or ob nixilus.
if you flip a land w/ the baloth hes hitting hard and if you flip a land w/ ob its direct damage PLUS a permanent 3/3 boost!

LE
so what was the two card combo with zen and m10?
