I'd just wish we PDCers could meet to play some paper magic sometimes, especially multiplayer and casual formats...It's a pity this is almost impossible to happen. We could just do some Online Commander for the time being. :)
Constructed would be great. I think draft could get quite tricky: you should account for both the standard deck AND the planar one while picking up cards...I'm sure I'd mess it up in no time.
I really hate to burst your bubble, but as of this moment Planechase is not going to be available on mtgo. They stated this somewhere near the initial launch posts. Althought it is currently not slated for modo the possibility exists in the future for this products release.
Well, it's more wishful thinking than not...But it should be fairly easy to implement the mechanics, after all planes work like an enchantment. They could even do all sort of cool things with the background of the client.
Next year, maybe. Maybe even later than that...Probably they will just wait to see if it catches up in paper before turning it to MTGO, but I still think/wish they will eventually do it. ;-)
Really nice write up there, got me nice and revved up for plane chase. I wonder what the best way to play planechase will be? Draft or constructed? Either way I like the look of it and hope that it does come to MTGO, surely it can't be that hard to put online? :P
PiDave, outstanding writeup! I was already stoked, as you know, but you've made it seem like such a blast to play! I wish MY wife played Magic with me! ...I wish I HAD a wife! ;)
yes while no welder it may not be a focal point but could just be alt win cons. like tinker/inkwell,slaver/ruins and if all else fails tezz beats. idk just speculation and brainstorming.
you know something I don't then. I was given to understand that the Planechase was strictly paper and the commander decks were the online compensation for that.
it just may become the DECK TO BEAT. drain decks are dominating in vintage now. i do not see any reason as to why it wont do the same to classic. the draw engine whiffy? fact or fiction or gifts/intuition, we are missing fastbond for gush engine sadly.
I dont feel that sorrows path can claim Worst Card Ever, though for sure worst land ever. Worst card has to go to "break open", which is already online. I challenge you to make a deck using break open!
I'm not the parent poster, but your reply is garbage. Just because a poster doesn't log in doesn't make his point invalid. If you think he is wrong then make a case and present it, don't fill the board with crap.
For the record, Illusion of Grandeur is a $4 card, not a $40 card. It isn't in MED3 anyway. Thanks to the anon poster above for pointing out this flagrant error.
I used to play a Thallid deck in real life that used and abused Arboria. The thallids would generate saprolings unhindered, with fungal bloom it was even more saprolings. That with spore flowers to create fog effects when you wanted/needed to play or cast something, it was very effective. And that was without all the newer thallid/fungus cards you have around now. I am not all the familiar with the whole tribal format, so I do not know how competitive thallids would really be, but with Arboria I can see all the fun I would have playing them again in casual.
My dear anonymous Spike, you really need to understand that in order to sell this set it needs to be targeted at more then just YOU.
Nostalga is a huge seller to the casual section of the playerbase.
And this set, just like MED1, is nostalgia heavy.
Also, this set has more then a few chase rares:
The 5 duals, Drain, Tax, Grim Tutor, Mind Twist, Reset, Old Man, Chain Lightning, Black Vise, Illusionary Mask, Bazaar of Bagdad, Tabernacle
Not all are tournament worthy but they are still playable.
Thank you for your compliments. :)

I know, don't worry and just see my previous reply to Paul. ;)

sorry to be a bad news bear.

tendrils is or was in meandeck gifts or meandeck tendrils before the restriction of gifts which used mana drain and were a storm/control deck

thanks, although i had assumed that tendrils fell under the mana drain umbrella, guess i was wrong
This would be horrifying! It MUST come to MTGO!!!

Eventually Planechase will arrive on MTGO, so this is just a pre-pre-preview of what to expect. ;-)
I simply can't wait. :)
Even with drain... Academy ruins is not enough to make this deck work.
Well that's great :) but it does not help us MTGO types much :p Nice photos.
Just wanted to tell you to keep up the great work, I really enjoy your articles.
And I'm in love with Nether Void, was so happy to see it on the spoiler lists.

Good article.
Nitpicky things -
"per se"
You missed Rituals (i.e. storm) which is the forth main "pillar" of vintage deck building.
mana drain is rare pauper is commons only so yes it's banned
Is mana drain not banned in Pauper?

I'm jsut going to Lol at Sorrow's Path for a while.
I always really wanted one online for all my casual decks xD.
Ok, that's it. Next article is going to be about finding a use for sorrow's path. Worst land. Ever. And Rhystic cave is pretty damn bad.
