I don't know who's smoking what but running 37 lands is a terrible plan. I constantly play games where people say 'Where's my land?' 'Wish I wasn't manascrewed' etc, and I ask how many lands they play and they always say 37 etc. I play 42 at minimum and I never have those problems. It's much better to be flooded than screwed in this format. Anyone who runs 32 land is cock-eyed crazy.
Actually I made Nemesis+Mind Funeral like 4 months ago when it came out and it was quite fun both in paper and virtual. Except now its getting more popular and now im losing interest in it. Now I need to do some xtra thinking and make a much more fun dek. I challenged a cascader to mind funeral and it was a smak down on turn 5. Sure he got luky but gawd- it was quite a shame. T3 Mind Funeral- T4 Elf- Cascade to Reborn Hope- T5 Remnant- Cascade to Funeral. Cascade hurts.
I thought this dek wouldnt do so well but i may be wrong. I made this dek in paper and currently testing it since I have 'better' cards in paper. Im adding pules. Ive been mana screwd, but I added rapant growth and it then became not so bad. I need to think of better choices of cards still...
Reading the intro made me want to read ur article- good job!
if you play this deck this is what will happen-you will be destroyed quickly, or your fat will be more than they can handle. Effreet means almost nothing in this deck, its just another fattie basically, thornling is what will win it for you
Worldpurge gets to stay because you can't really abuse it. It empties mana pools where you can float with Upheavel and be the only one with a serious board.
Thanks for the tip - given that, I'd put the Spearbreaker Behemoth in for Timber Protector. Lots of great options if you go Extended though, you're right.
As an aside - the M10 pictures and links aren't working yet, hence some dodgy presentation here, but they should be up soon.
And a correction. The 7th Anniversary Incinerate cards will be going out during NEXT week's downtime (August 12), not this week. The July MOPR cards ARE going out tomorrow (8/5).
Standard 8-player queues ARE paying out M10 (as are the 2 and 8 player Pauper queues).
It is only the 2-player Standard queue that is not (it is paying out ARB). Once the release events are over, then the 2-player Standard queue will switch to pay out M10 as was announced.
AND look for Replays, the timer bug, and Mox Diamond to be fixed tomorrow. AND the 7th Anniversary Incinerate and the JULY MOPR promo cards to be added to all eligible player's collections as well.
The deck box content generator program thingee lets you enter card names and numbers, then sorts them into creatures and lands - and inserts the hyperlinks for all known cards. Cards that don't hyperlink - mainly names with apostrophes, misspellings and cards from very new sets - don't hyperlink. For cards in the main deck, they show up as spells. Those in the sideboard don't appear at all. I could have tried to insert them, but adding cards to the decklists requires a lot of work to get the formats and links right, and I was lazy,
The Turbo Fog still has an few white options imo Silence, and Safe Passage fill the bill in my book. I've always wondered why not splash black for Batwing Brume that can win the game for you.
intresting that they would ban gifts but keep intuiton ,upheaval but not worldpurge maybe the cost?
loam, crucible and tutors does sound good since alot of the decks are succeptible to wasteland recursion
The format is ridiculously fun. I've been learning a good deal over the past week, for instance Karrthus Tyrant of Jund is always completely unfair. He makes Living Death and Patriarch's Bidding even more of a beating since all of your guys get haste and he often can be reanimated to steal your opponent's general. Yet he is always completely unfair which means he is a liability in that if one of your opponents can take control of him you are toast. Did I mention the format is ridiculously fun?
Scroll Rack puts any dragons that you happen to draw back into your deck. Reito Lantern and/or Mistveil Plains are let you reuse the dragons that you search up with Scion. Also, Lightning Greaves is a staple in this format since it protects your general. The fact that it gives haste is just gravy.
Marcus, this was excellent. I recently started again playing block and this article helps me a lot. And the amount of time and effort you put into this article makes it even better.
But a warning: You're raising my expectations from you! As a reader, I will not accept anything less in the future.
Commander ruined the rest of MTGO for me. I no longer play anything else!
You can do far more broken things in Commander than cycle lands with loam every turn.

We do try and keep up with things where we can :)

Thanks Mike, good to hear things will be quickly fixed for the issues that just cropped up.

Arcane Teachings p1p1. Your putting the person to your right into red also by passing that.
Are you saying that Standard 8-man constructed queues are currently paying out ACR packs instead of M10?

"The Timber Protector ... He pumps Thornling, and turns every forest we control into an easy pick for the Efreet’s end of turn destruction derby."
Capricious Efreet does not allow you to target lands.
I would go extended for this deck. Darksteel Ingot seems perfect for this deck, along with a number of other indestructible toys you could play with.
The Turbo Fog still has an few white options imo Silence, and Safe Passage fill the bill in my book. I've always wondered why not splash black for Batwing Brume that can win the game for you.
I never said it was a good list, jsut the current one! :o)

Great article steve, really liked the Throne Combo, looking forward to the next installment

Am I the only one that like Deluge? It's no Sleep, but it's still a decent pick.

The current banned list for Commander format is this:
* Biorhythm
* Braids, Cabal Minion
* Coalition Victory
* Gleemox
* Gifts Ungiven
* Grindstone
* Kokusho, the Evening Star
* Lion's Eye Diamond
* Panoptic Mirror
* Protean Hulk
* Riftsweeper
* Sway of the Stars
* Upheaval
* Worldgorger Dragon
Isn't Life from the Loam banned in singleton formats? A tutor, Loam and lands to abuse it is just too easy to piece together.
Nice article. I appreciate all the work that must have gone into it and whilst I don't play block the little quizes are good mental exercises.
