Best removal black-blue have is agony warp...and black-red gets destroy with no regenerate for the same two mana?
it,s BS if you ask me,granted it,s blue so it should be weaker...and more defensive but green got card draw white got counters black got lifelink so why not give blue a good removal?
I'd have to disagree.Rotation has a huge price impact on alot of std cards. When you can invest in cards that pretty much never rotate in classic and will never lose value.Just me std was more fun and constantly changing, but I got tired of spending lots of money and getting a good deck for it only to be good for about 2 years and then tring to sell my cards to buy more std cards and getting about %50 or less of what I paid for them. Some std cards stay stable after rotation but they gotta be pretty darn good.
Good work. The biggest problem I'm having in K-scope with my cheapo GW aggro deck is flyers. With no removal and few good flyers, a deck can go over your head quickly.
Another RB card I use in my casual monoblack b/r hybrid dec is Spiteful Visions. If you can get a good lead in the dmg race, dropping spiteful visions is suddenly doing 2 dmg a turn to both of you, as well as making blue dex pay one life for every card they draw.
i just thought id point out the one deck by vinariu isnt actually 5cc, its esper control. i played against him in that tourney rd4 when we were both 3-0 and of course i ended up donking out and missing t8 due to a crucial gameplay error in rd5.
Vintage is not like classic. The legacy cardpool is FAR closer to classic (and legacy is played), even though there are major differences (like the entire urza block). And rotation doesn't account for the price difference. I could build several rotations of std decks for the price of 1 classic deck (which will require further investment thanks to the new releases still ongoing on MTGO).
Classic is online as it is in real life.Only the very devoted play classic as type1 in real life. The only thing is in real life it's alot easier to get the cards but it costs even more(power9 /not fow or sea). What I'm tring to say in a nutshell type1 /classic is and always will be the most expensive format,it's also a investment ,your cards will never lose value as in std the cards tend to turn to crap when the sets get rotated.I have almost stopped std as I know the cards I buy for classic will never lose value.Although, std is and will always see the most play which makes it still worthwhile to invest in a deck if your serious about these points.
Classic's state isn't looking very good to me despite Wizard's efforts to give it a kickstart via nix-tix drafts and sealeds. The saturday daily event fired with exactly 24 despite being at a very good time for many (8:00 EST on a saturday), and being a RGD QE (Ravinca championship entry should attract extra people, even if they're not newer players). I think this speaks to classic's inherent problems on MTGO, mainly the amazing prices that its core cards command, which is exacerbated by a fairly insular community. Note that I do not mean unfriendly, or unwelcoming, just that the community is small and very, very good/practiced. This provides another barrier for entry to newer players.
You reach a point where new players who enter classic as a format have to fork out hundreds of dollars to build any kind of semi-competitive deck, and then have to play against a group of players who will have more practice and be better at the format than them. The classic format isn't attractive to these newer players, this is why you see 2-8 mans firing constantly for std/ext/block, but not for classic. This also leads to underdrafting of classic sets (why draft with cards that you don't know?) along with the brokenness of drafting older sets (Common fireballs, phasing, and a lot of bad creatures)
Classic as a format is very sick online because it doesn't fit with the idea of MTGO. It doesn't provide a way to test decks for any real format, unlike the more popular official formats. The format does not lend itself to easy entry with complex combos/decks, and often begs the question "Why is this worth the investment over a another format to me?". When you're spending more money on 4 FoWs than an entire deck, and more money on 4 underground seas than an average constructed deck's mana base, then the format is going to have problems.
I really don't know. There are a lot of drafts. I think it depends on whether a small group of players play in them all, or whether the number of players is a lot higher. Frankly, I have no clue.
My gut tells me there will be less than 100 players qualified for the first Champs (more for later ones).
15 points really ain't easy if you got a job or something similar to already commit your time to.
What are your estimates for the # of qed players ?
According to the rumors, there will be a Black/Blue Evacuation variant in Alara Reborn but from what I've seen that card won't see play outside of drafts or sealed(because it is a horrible card for constructed play). But maybe there is something else, who knows.
Therefore many players (me included) started playing with Hit/Run in the main deck and Mercy Killing in the sideboard. You simply kill/destroy/remove from the game everything else and then Hit/Run the remaining problem. Sometimes it is an Oversoul of Dusk and sometimes it is a Simic Sky Swallower (by the way, Hit/Run for SSS means not only bye-bye to the beast but also it is 7 damage for 3 mana).
Terminate, although a great card, still doesn't get rid of Oversoul of Dusk....maybe they will have some sort of Plague type of card, what with all the different shards coming together...
Hello again, after reading http://puremtgo.com/articles/qualifying-2009-magic-online-championship by "one million words," I thought it would be interesting to post the ratings where you are most likely to earn QPs for MTGO Championships (this is assuming you are equally specialized in all formats):
Great content - You have obviously worked hard not only on the format but on the content and presentation of his article. It looks very professional and was an informative and enjoyable read. Well done on a good job. I look forward to Part 3 of this series!
I would think that would ideally be during deck validation. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement (i think) if they really wanted to.
Of course, not every 2 card combo in history would get hit by this (I would believe) but maybe just those really that are really easy to pull off (like those that can be assembled using the same cards) or those that just cost too little to work.
I guess people have only seen banning individual cards as the only option that has been around since the beginning of time that they would probably not be too open about thinking otherwise.
Some of the decks were messed up, as was the title. Obviously the Adjudicator isn't legal; I'm not sure what happened. Apologies on that.
This article was meant to be a mere launching point for the format. Sure, Alara reborn will have a lot to add to the format, but it's not like the set is going to make or break Kaleidoscope. There is plenty to discern from the multicolored cards that are available at the moment.
A $1 tix being worth 85 cents is not crazy? Now you live in the USA and can buy tix @ $1 from the store, but I live in the UK, and I would be crazy to buy tix @ $1.15 or whatever the rate with tax is atm. Thank Murphy for Ebay.

You have 20 creatures rather than 19...

A lot of important information in this article, thanks for compiling it.

We could need a Terminate curve for next week. ;)

A very informative read for people interested in qualifying. I'll be reading and rereading this to find out where I can attempt to get my qps. =)

Three, not including comments. And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, while above the norm, is not necessarily excessive.
I would think that would ideally be during deck validation. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement (i think) if they really wanted to.

Ladies and gentlemen, how many times did we hear the phrase "Ladies and gentlemen" just now?
I really shouldn't have missed that, thanks for pointing it out.
