I've been playing something similar to this since they sanctioned Pauper. Only difference is werebears, instead of marauders, kindles as opposed to firebolts and no mongrels. The secret tech? Tattermunge duo. +1/+1 for all my bolts, kindles and incinerates is just sick. The bears often hit threshold because of the direct damage and they are very relevant in a format where most creatures are 2/2s. I've had some success in the 2-mans (3-1) the loss was to blinking riftwatchers. Wins were MUC,and MU grand entrance twice. I want to try mongrels as they would help with threshold as well. Just haven't ponied up $4.00 for a set yet.
First of all, very nice article.
As a long time fan of Prismatic (and its various formats) and 100 card singleton, I must say that I really hope this new format will take its ground in MTGO. It will be exciting to see what decks out there will be the rulers.
As you point out mana fetching will be a major issue in this format. I fear that the prices of rare lands will scare many people from trying this on a competitive level. You will need almost 4x each dual, shockland, fetchland, painland etc. to build a deck fast enough to respond to a mana pool filled with rare lands.
A question - we don't know if the format is singleton, right?
And finally, hybrids are legal. Spectral Procession is a mono white card and is therefore not allowed. :)
Spectral Procession isn't multicoloured. It's white. It is unclear whether truely multicolored hybrids (e.g. Figure of Destiny) are going to be allowed.
Let me make it clear that I enjoy reading your articles. That being said, if you want to Top 8 why not netdeck one of the successful decks? I know it's not interesting reading so just write your articles about the decks you run in the 2-man queues and then count up your prizes from the PE Top 8s.
Although with hybrids allowed it would be possible to make an all hybrid monocolored deck. One of my casual dex is a B/R Aggro deck with a completely black manabase, I could easily port it to this format. I should do that... Mmmmm
One thing to be aware of is how fragile your manabase actually is in Kscope. if your opponent can destroy all but one color you're screwed in most cases.
Quite good writing, nice formating and a 'fresh' topic.
Could have been a bit longer with the KScope part, imho. Also note that the format will be based on Extended, so no Deed et al (Void was in TSB though).
And for getting a max of entertainment value out of your draft I'd suggest the swiss queues, which you forgot to mention.
It may have been me that passed you that taiga in that med2 draft, couldnt help it i cracked a foil tundra in the same pack. I remember playing someone that had both savannah and taiga
Excellent article, I enjoyed every word. This article reminded me why and how I started playing Magic over 13 years ago as a naive youngster, and into what kind of a soulless monster I turned in time.
Keep up the good work.

PS: Pernicious Deed isn't legal in Kaleidoscope (but his little brother Crime/Punishment is).
Glad to see an article hyping kaleidoscope. I am very excited about this format, and plan to actively participate in it. I hope it gains enough popularity that WOTC will begin to host PE's and whatnot for it. I very much liked the idea of posting thing like the mana fixers, board sweepers, etc. as I havent had time to look into these personally. I plan on putting a deck together sometime in the next week in order to get ready for the upcoming format. Hope to see many of you there.
Very nice article. I have just gotten into pauper myself within the past week or so and have been doing my best to research/playtest before the PE tomorrow. I plan on joining it as long as I can make the time to attend. I like the deck you have suggested here, as I am normally prone to playing aggro decks. I will definitely give this deck a try in the near future to see for myself how it plays out. Not sure exactly what I'm going to play for the PE, will most likely be a last minute decision. Keep the articles coming.
I'd say that luck plays a much bigger role online too. And that comes from two main factors: 1. some cheats people do IRL while manipulating their decks (searching cards, shuffling, etc.); 2. IRL bluff is completely different from the online one.
Would you agree that there is more luck involved when playing MTGO vs. MTG? Same as online poker vs RL poker. I guess it also depends on if you know the person your playing or not. Great article!
Just an FYI, I recently pulled a foil crypt in a draft and was only able to get 25 tickets out of it, so I doubt you will get Tundra or Sea. But you know those foil nuts, sometimes they will pay anything.
i think it will be more of a compilation of older cards from before revised edt.

reason i think is theyll(wotc) leave the urzas alone and try to get out all the missing cards. wether these appear in exiled or med3 i am pretty sure they will be online either way .
as for these cards i would love to see

im sure im missing some . great article way to get those intrests up
Dear Lord, Salad Fingers... geeze how tired was I by the end of writing last night....
Yeah. Salad Fingers will warp the crap out you. It's totally clean and acceptable for all ages... assuming you want to creep the beejebus out of said people.
Nice article,
I actually do the same with my lands. You forgot one plains however, each shard has two basic lands...
Bant: 2 plains
Naya: 2 forest
Jund: 2 Mountains
Grixis: 2 swamps
And esper: 2 islands ofcourse...
So be a better Vorthos and add both of the lands.

The hybrid cards aren't legal. You need to reread the Wotc post, he specifically rules out using cards like Spectral Procession.

I just decided to crack 2 packs last week and got a Tundra...lucky me, I guess.....
Edit: What would someone pick over an Underground Sea?? Other than a foil dual...

I opened 54 MED2 packs last week and I got ZERO duals... (got a second pick Underground Sea though)

ok, now i'm very disturbed. thanks hammy
i bought a farewell pack and pulled an Underground Sea in the fourth pack. :)
i still don't know whether i'll hold onto it or trade it for tix to support my standard game.

"rusty spooons" *shudder*
typing "salad fingers" into Google and taking the first link will explain all.
Thank you Hammy for the plug for the 99 Tix tournament.
