- I go by D.K., and on MTGO you'll find me as ddmdandaman. I've been playing Magic since I was in 7th grade, when Torment had just been released and Judgment was on its way to store shelves. A buddy of mine gave me a random assortment of 36 green and black cards along with 12 Forests and 12 Swamps to get me into the game. Needless to say, the deck was terrible, but it's how I got started. Over the years, I've always been a budget deckbuilder. To be honest, I didn't buy my first pack of Magic cards until Dissension. I'd been playing Magic off of cards given to me for over three years! Yet, I managed to impress most everyone I played. Building decks with underpowered cards forces a player to really hone their skills to compensate. I went from being Mr. Zero to Top of the Class in just a matter of months. That said, I've never been a competitive player. I just don't have the resources to be highly competitive. I won an FNM or two back in the day. Still, my skills are hardly PTQ-winning quality, but I know my way around. So I've decided that my niche in the MTGO world is simply building fun and workable decks on the cheap. And when I say cheap, I often mean "less than ten tickets". I may occasionally go over that if I feel that I have the resources, but that's typically my threshold. Most of these articles will feature "junk rares" that I build a deck around, but not always. Check me out on PureMTGO by reading my Pennypincher Deckbuilder column!
